I've had it for a few days and I don't share the experience on that article. I have a lot of different smartwatches and I can say that so far it's one of the best I've tried. There have been already a number of reviews that are diametrally opposite to that wired review as well. Judging by the publication date it's possible they had an early review sample. There have been numerous software updates since.

I don't think you can get a bigger bang for buck than with amazfit. Active 2 premium does 90%+ what the apple ultra 2 does? For around 10% the cost? Crazy. Want something bigger and 'fancier'? You got balance 2 and t rex pro 3 that look really good and are even a bit bigger with better battery, and more durable

Just got mine, does everything I need, love the look and size. Has serious potential. HOWEVER……..the 2 most important things for me personally is for it to sync with “lose it” and just control my music from my phone. Both of which I am running into issues with. I have 30 days to figure it out. Hopefully I can cause I really like everything else about it. BUT those 2 things are deal breakers for me. Fingers Crossed🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Technically yes, but I have been using it for 6+ years as my “macro” tracker or food logger. So it has 6 years of my entering certain foods into it which now makes my meal tracking take me less than 2 minutes a day to enter. I appreciate tech. BUT hate losing all my time entering shit. All this info is great but it’s now costing us time not saving us time🤪🤪. It syncs with my apple health. BUT Zepp won’t read my nutrition data from apple health🤬🤬. Like I said I love this thing so far. But it’s not worth 6 years of my nutrition history. If need be I’ll spend the extra 200$ and get a AW Ultra 2. Hopefully there is a trick or something I’m missing and It will get figured out before my 30 days are up

It is great. I use it daily, and I also own a Balance 2 and an Apple Watch Ultra 2. Have had 3 top Garmin (latest Fenix 8 which I sold last week). Still this one my daily driver; great looks and features, confort to wear despite the size.

I am. But considering that you ar coming from an AW10, this is a very rugged looks. Maybe the Balance 2 suits better?. Still retains the 10 atm depth rating, sapphire, etc. Check the website.

I am happy in general, in the end it depends on the use you give it. For strength training and running it's great, in swimming I don't use it and on the bike it's loose, it has just enough. The GPS accuracy is very good, on par with the best, the altimeter is also good. The application is chaotic and the worst thing is that the battery can't even hold up to what they advertise.

The Amazfit T Rex 3 is a steal for the price and features. They also just released a Pro model which has on board mapping and other features typically reserved for expensive garmin models. Battery life is amazing and GPS accuracy has been great for me in Colorado.

Amazfit gives a lot of bang for the buck. Bip 6 if price is a big concern. Active 2 if you want altimeter and barometer plus more storage space. Balance 2 for the most features and polish. Trex 3 Pro if you want more outdoor/adventure features and such. (44mm version coming at the end of this month.)

Having had the same choice, I personally landed on the T-Rex 3 Pro. Reasons were its flashlight feature, the mention of the slightly higher quality of sapphire in some reviews (I'd refer your to Chase The Summit and Dave Does Fitness on YT for that) and the fact that it can be operated entirely via its buttons, since the sapphire is rightly said to collect fingerprints easily. I have to add that I have solved the fingerprint problem for myself by applying an oleophobic coating myself. But it definitely was a consideration for me to begin with.

First of all: For tracking your HR effectively while working out at the gym, get an external HR sensor in addition to the watch. PPG sensors will work well on your upper arm, else use a chest strap. Not even the best wrist-based PPG sensors will work reliably when lifting weights. I use my T-Rex 3 Pro in conjunction with the Helio Strap, which acts as the primary HR sensor, and this way they provide very consistent and coherent tracking. Secondly: That review was a big topic here yesterday already and I can assure you, it is not a good quality article. I doubt whether the author even used the T-Rex 3 Pro extensively. Yes, Amazfit's software does have the \*occasional\* quirk. But from what I have read, that is not exclusive to them. Even Garmin releases buggy firmware to their watches. The Fenix 8 range apparently was a mess when it first came out, because it was the first to use their revamped OS. Anyway, to name a few: Helio Strap and T-Rex 3 Pro disconnect from each other when I take the latter of for sleeping, which is good to save power (the former I have worn permanently so far, outside of charging, of course). They sometimes do not reconnect automatically, however, when I put it back on. Both devices synchronize with Zepp App without issues like double data, however data collected by the strap does not always synchronize back to the watch reliably. Lastly, the rep counter during strength training could be better, very heavy reps, that I cannot perform explosively anymore towards the end of my workout, are not always recognized. My friend's Garmin Venu 3 has the same issue, however. Both watches work about equally well in that regard. My girlfriend's Apple Watch is A LOT better there. No idea, how Apple does that, but they apparently do. That being said, \*occasional\* is the operative term still. I use the watch to track my workouts at the gym, for running and rucking, to pay at the store (via Curve), to keep track of medication and appointments and to respond to notifications. For training I have also started using it in conjunction with intervals.icu. All of those things work \*very\* well for me. Zepp App is also very well structured, easy to use and modern. No bugs there whatsoever for me. GPS is very accurate. The battery is way beyond any watchOS or WearOS device, it lasts me about 10-12 days. And I would consider myself a relatively heavy user. All in all I would buy both devices again. I am sure there are better watches, too, of course - but not for this price. Anyone should find it difficult to argue that the T-Rex 3 Pro is a very strong value proposition. Period.

I have used the T-Rex 3 Pro for about two weeks now, in conjunction with my Helio Strap that I've been wearing for about 4 weeks. And I'd call myself very satisfied so far. I have to mention that these are my first fitness wearables, so I cannot really compare. As a tech savvy and relatively sporty person I knew very well what I was looking for, however, and these devices deliver well on their promises regarding that: Accurate HR tracking during strength training (the Helio Strap works very well on my biceps here) as well as running, basic smart features like payments and notification alerts, health and sleep insights (sleep time has been rather accurate for me), tracking of calories (taking a picture of your food and the AI analyzing it has worked well, too). I am getting to appreciate the BioCharge and PAI features, too, even though such metrics are, of course, somewhat rudimentary in their nature. Listening to your body first is something that nothing can replace. Anyway, these things have all been very functional and motivating to me, the latter being an important point, too. My only criticisms would be the translation, which is somewhat questionable in some places (I am a German user) and the fact that the sapphire glas of the watch's display is somewhat prone to fingerprints. The latter point I was able to mostly solve by applying a coating myself. Probably not as durable as from the factory, but the process is at least easily repeatable whenever necessary. In the end, I paid 479 € for both devices, which would not even have gotten me a Garmin Venu 4 or Forerunner 570, which I was both considering, too. The Suunto Race 2, another contender for me, is also a bit more expensive (or quite a bit, if we're talking titanium). Same for the Apple Watch Ultra 3, but that one I stopped considering first, because of its runtime. All of these also lacked an answer to my unwillingness to wear a watch in bed, which is solved by the Helio Strap. I would also have needed a separate HR monitor for my gym workouts, which wrist-based sensors cannot really keep up with. The Helio Strap does these well, too, though. All in all I think it is VERY hard to find better value for money than Amazfit offers with these devices. If you don't want the rugged looks of the T-Rex line, you can also go with the Balance 2, which arguably increases value even further.

T-Rex 3 is more than OK. TR3Pro's improvements are not so significant for your case. The only reason I prefer it is the Titanium bezel (I'm a fool for that metal!) and the crazy screen brightness. Keep in mind that T-Rex's screen brightness is also truly great..

I bought TR3pro after 4 Garmins, the last being FR965. There's no prefect sportswatch, but TR3pro is certainly nowhere near what Wired says. Sleep tracking is incredible, at least for me. It is 100% spot on, coming from Garmin was a blast. GPS is absolutely reliable and the rest of the metrics seem consistent, for me not being a pro or expert, they are good enough. I'd buy it again.

I have Fenix 6x Sapphire and Vivoactive 3s for my wife, her display got cracked, decided to upgrade the watches also for touchscreen and newer sensors. Was reviewing Fenix 8, but got frustrated how easy scrambled the bazel is, didn't like lots of things in the Pro. Fenix 7 Pro and Epix Pro are dropped for support only maintenance. Was wondering for Enduro 3 but saw a review of Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro for less than half the price and decide try it. Received if two days ago and for now it is perfect, will see in future. Still considering Venu 4 for my wife.

Not so happy with workout features. I love smartwatch funtionalities and watchfaces and so on. but zepp app sucks and there are some behaviours i can´t understan really well, like having a planned workout only for certain sports (can´t be used in trail running), map screen not available while planned workout, and lots of strange behaviours that make my experience little blurry with the device...hope in next update most of them will be fixed...

Best watch I ever owned. And I had at least 5 different Garmin watches which where all more expensive. I am a serious runner and amazfit delivers here with intervals.icu integration, stryd support a superb display, fantastic gps and accurate HR monitor. The smart watch capabilities are also much better than Garmin offers.

TL;DR: Tried the Apple Watch Ultra 3, but it just doesn’t feel like a true sports watch. Returned it and happily went back to Amazfit, where the software, battery life, and overall user experience are simply better for me. ⸻ I’ve been an Amazfit fan for over a year (last one I used was the T-Rex 3 Pro), but I decided to give the new Apple Watch Ultra 3 a try. Build quality, seamless iPhone integration, AppleCare, long-term updates – all of that is great. But in the end, I realized: for me as someone who trains regularly, Amazfit simply makes way more sense. - Sports features: Amazfit is clearly built with sports in mind. Dedicated activities like Padel tennis, detailed strength training tracking with sets, reps, and even a muscle group overview. Apple? Just heart rate and calories. For a watch at this price point, that feels underwhelming. - Controls: With the T-Rex I can do everything via buttons – perfect for sweaty hands or rain. On the Apple Watch you’re forced to use the touchscreen, and pausing a workout requires awkward button combos. Annoying mid-training. - Notifications: Amazfit always alerted me to calls, whether normal or WhatsApp. On the Apple Watch, WhatsApp calls didn’t show at all – which is baffling for something inside the so-called “perfect Apple ecosystem.” - Battery life: With Amazfit I never had to think about it – a full week easily, even with activity tracking. With the Apple Watch, I was already worried at 30–40% if it would last the night or survive the next workout. That battery anxiety just wasn’t there with Amazfit. - Software & design: This surprised me the most. Amazfit’s software often feels more thought-through than Apple’s. For example, Amazfit supports a night mode for any watchface. Apple offers only a very limited set of watchfaces to begin with, and only a handful support any kind of night mode. It feels restrictive, illogical, and honestly a bit outdated compared to what Amazfit gives you. - App & analysis: Zepp OS feels more polished and sports-focused, with useful post-workout stats. Apple Health is basically just a data dump – if you want any real insights, you’re stuck downloading third-party apps. Bottom line: The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is a beautiful, premium device with great service and support – but it just doesn’t feel like a true sports watch. That’s why I returned it and went back to Amazfit. For my training and daily life, it’s simply the better fit. And honestly, I’m really glad I could return the Apple Watch. I went back and forth on that decision for a while, but now I’m genuinely happy to be back in the Amazfit ecosystem. I’ve owned Amazfit watches for months without running into any major issues – nothing that felt overlooked or frustrating. Instead, I’ve always been positively surprised by the value and the thoughtful design choices. If anything, I regret ever thinking I needed an Apple Watch in the first place. For now, I’ll definitely stick with Amazfit. My only real hope is that the company continues to improve long-term software support, so even watches older than a year still get meaningful updates. The hardware is excellent and reliable, so it would be great to see that matched with ongoing software development. Until then, I’m just excited to once again have an Amazfit watch on my wrist as my daily companion.

The T-rex 3 Pro also doesn't record when you wake up at night. While the Balance 1 is like a sniper. He doesn't waste a minute. If you wake up 30 seconds in the night, roll over and immediately go back to sleep, the old Balance records it, while the T-rex 3Pro does not.

It's okay watch. The navigation and routing is a clear mess to me, but it's broken by design, you simply can't build anything useful for sports on top of Google maps. But everything else is quite solid, on par with any mid-range Garmin or Suunto

If you are using a watch that is older than 3 years its very likely (outside of apple watch, garmin, coros, polar and suunto) that it doesn't come close to matching current models accuracy levels - especially as most brands (wear os / apple / garmin / coros / polar / suunto / fitbit / huawei / amazfit) update the sensor and gps chipset every 2-3 years (if not more frequently) and there have been significant improvements all around. For example current garmins are either using the elevate 4 or elevate 5 HR sensor (from health 24/7 perspecive virtually immaterial difference in results, but from an activity perspective especially around strength and cycling their is a more marked improvement - plus the elevate 5 sensors include ECG and baseline temp monitoring) however the elevate 4 was a significant jump from the elevate 3 sensor (4 veritcal led lights) which was an even bigger jump from the sensor prior to that (3 leds in a triangular shape). Huge jumps and leaps have been made in sleep tracking too, and for most its way more accurate than it used to be - though don't get me wrong it still can be fooled (i.e. sitting/lying and being super inactive (i.e. reading / watching tv) and its possible the watch can potentially record that as sleep. Garmin Forerunner 165 - its on special on Garmin sales at just under $200. (or could look to see what deals you can find for the instinct 2 or vivoactive 5). These are all running pretty much garmin's latest version of sleep tracking which is way better at determining sleep duration (I find start time is rock solid and seldom gets fooled - if it does at the worst it records it as light sleep so doesn't really impaact recovery at all -as would be giving you that as recovery anyway and the recharge rate from light compared to resting is so simliar I haven't noticed a difference in recharge rate; and wake time is rock solid as long as using morning report - cause as soon as you access morning report it switches off sleep - so if you wake up and want to go back to sleep don't access morning report - the morning report front screen includes time so no need to access it until you want to be up and about). The sleep tracking algorithms are from firstbeat and includes the use of accelerometer, HR and HRV compared to the older garmin sleep tracking which per my understanding was accerlerometer based. You could also look at anything from amazift (stick to bip 6, active 2, t-rex3 or balance - as all running most current version of their software and alogorithms); Huawei including Fit 3 is worth a look; and could consider anything from coros, suunto (just released the run which should be around the $200 mark) and polar. And you could also look at fitbit charge 6, sense 2 or vera. There is also xiaomi but their HR isn't as good as the others... But worth noting the accuracy of optical HR is still impacted by skin tone, body comp, hair, tats, weight & size of watch, how you wear it and if doing an activity the activity type - and until you use it there is no way to know if it will be accurate for you or not. However for most people most of the sensors of the brands I have mentioned tend to do a good job re accuracy for 24/7 health metrics and steady state activities (walking, steady running etc).

I would agree with you on that. I had Garmin fenixes for years, Garmin Epix pro, Apple Watch Ultra, amazfit trex 3 (current watch) and just got a whoop. Imo for weightlifting nothing beats the Apple Watch (ultra or not doesn’t matter) due to all the different apps available. I was using Hevy and the ability to do a live workout between the watch and the phone at the same time was dope: want to change exercice or do more complex changes during your sessions, you simply edit the workout on the phone. But if you want to do just a 5lbs increment on your lift, you can do it from the watch directly live. Only thing I am eager to test with whoop, which is a important part my decision to do the free trial for a month, is to see muscle strain and how it work in tandem with the cardio based strain. Whoop is the only wearable to do that ( but it seems you can do it with Bevel now)
