Probably the most unneccesary release I've seen from Amazfit, alognside the T-Rex Ultra 2. They haven't been able to keep up with the Helio Strap demand, still unable to sell a single replacement band for the Helio Strap, the calories algorithm is still super high, sports like swimming are still lacking advanced features, training templates could use some improvement, Zepp Aura is not good enough to be a worthy subscription, a lot of people have issues with sleep tracking (not me) and so on. Amazfit was one the right track but at this exact moment they seem pretty lost to me. I thought they were going to focus on Bip, Active, Balance, T-Rex and Helio Strap, and the rest on software and features, but nope. Why bother in releasing the Active Max? They couldn't just wait 1 month and just release the Active 3? It's basically the same watch. Why the T-Rex Ultra 2? Isn’t the T-Rex 3 PRO enough??? They are losing focus and are trying so hard to be Garmin with their 198226628393837262729 different watches. They want to have a 1:1 of every single Garmin watch apparently, when they should focus on more features to actually compete w garmin. It's like they need to be constantly on headlines bc if not they think people will forget about them.
I understand having T-Rex 3 and T-Rex 3 Pro. T-Rex 3 is their "affordable" rugged option and the T-Rex 3 Pro is the "Pro" and expensive rugged option. T-Rex Ultra 2 is just pointless, especially w that price. They should’ve made 3 size options for both T-Rex 3 models, that’s it. But it's clear that they want to be Garmin having a bunch of watches that are almost the same like Fenix, Epix and Enduro. Active Max a month before Active 3 is completely pointless, especially if they’re basically the same watch and the exact same price. It's so stupid, they release the Active Max and immediately killed it just after a month, bc tbh if someone is making their decision now, there’s really no reason to buy the Active Max other than the whole black look that the Active 3 doesn’t have. They’re totally losing focus and bombing everyone w releases to be on the headlines every other week. I still like the products but at this moment the only thing keeping me with them is the Helio Strap + Watch combo, not the features of the app. If Garmin or Coros decides to do something like that, I think I'll switch bc I don't wanna be waiting god knows how much time for Amazfit to get their shit together and start being their own company instead of trying to be Garmin. People want features and long term support, not 15162783377 watches.
That's right, but they still do not seem to develop for every model simultaneously. Just think about how long it took for the original T-Rex 3 to get BioCharge, in spite of that model being pretty much identical to the T-Rex 3 Pro, who got it from the start.
I basically view the T-Rex Ultra 2 as an 51mm version of the T-Rex 3 Pro. Sure, it is slightly more premium, but functionally it is not much more than that. Offering three different sizes for the high-end is still somewhat reasonable, even though the price increase should definitely have been more moderate in this case, 450 € for example instead of 550 €. But yeah, the Active Max could have gotten more buttons and the sapphire lens instead. The Active 3 release is somewhat confusing. They should just give their different lines a two-year release cycle (or three years, as they did with the Ultra model) and otherwise focus on refining their software and the heap of features that they already have, but that are still a little undercooked (Zepp Coach comes to mind). These recent releases tell me one thing, however: BioTracker 7.0 and therefore more features on the sensoric side of things (such as ECG capabilities) are still a good way off. Definitely not a 2026 thing in my opinion. u/Amazfit-Bryce, I certainly hope, Zepp will keep its focus in terms of updates for the entire BioTracker 6.0 suite, as those models are technically all very similar still. The feature set on offer is very compelling at this point, it's just that refinement has to be nailed down more at this point. I enjoy the ecosystem very much and hope to stay on it for the long haul, but this is highly dependent on how development goes from here.
Fenix has inductive buttons and is certified for diving or low/high temperatures + Garmin's software. Cheetah is 5ATM and if you look at the notes is not valid for low temperatures below -10°C at the mountains. No offense, but are not comparable at all. Cheetah is perhaps worth for less that 450 euro, but for 600 is a tough decision. Because is not only Garmin, but Coros or Suunto's watches. And it's not only the hardware, but the software. I.E: A titanium Race 2 can be bought usually with a 10% discount and is cheaper that the Cheetah and has much better battery life and it's certified for extreme conditions. But those are my two cents.
if you want to try something else just for fun (not better per say) you could return the garmin and try an amazfit t rex ultra 2. mine has been pretty cool so far.
Fenix, Amazfit is not yet there at all, years of development and experience cannot be skipped. I have Garmin Instinct 3 and Amazfit T-Rex Ultra 2. Quote different worlds, Garmin app and watch sw is simply better.
Garmin overview is much more specific but very clear and you see details while zepp app is too much general and if you want details, you simply don't find it.
If you don't want the extra battery, size, green flashlight, night vision mode, pre loaded global maps, and titanium back, the Trex 3 Pro is absolutely fine. The ultra 2 has additional features and build materials, but most people won't need them or care. (I say this after having tested both, currently working on the Ultra 2.)
For what you're getting in these watches I think you're getting an excellent deal. Some people would argue that the T-Rex 3 Pro or the Ultra 2 are overpriced but I don't know that I'm seeing it that way. If you want a cheaper watch you can definitely get one but the amount of features they pack into these for the price they're charging is excellent.
