Based on 1 year's data from Feb 15, 2026 How it works
Let me preface this by saying that I already know that this is stupid, lol. I have 2 AW's, a 5 series, and a 6SE. They both only last for about 2hrs or so when I use them during my runs to listen to music. If i plan to run for about 3hrs, I take the 2nd watch with me and throw it on when the first watch dies.
I had a normal Apple Watch with Athlytics ~2 years ago to see if I was done w/ Whoop and it just did not cut the mustard. I actually really like Whoop and I’m gonna stick with it because it just works. It’s less finicky, unobtrusive, and it just does almost everything without my input. I don’t need to do any breathing exercises in order to clock my data for a proper score, battery lasts 5 days, etc. That might not be the case anymore, but, I just want my fitness tracker to do one thing. Like many, I didn’t buy the WHOOP for the subscription model and free device. I bought it to keep it simple while getting insights. Maybe I should be upset that I had to pay $75 for their top o’ da line device, but I also kinda don’t give a shit because it fits so seamlessly into my life in a way that nothing else really has. Glad you’re enjoying the ultra.
Which Apple Watch do you have? My SE is less than accurate.
I have been using the Apple Watch SE since last October for swimming and it’s been quite accurate at tracking distance and strokes/kickboard. For protection I also use screen protector and watch bumper, which prevents trapping water.
Overkill? Apple is an overkill on price, meaning it is underkill on value. I got an SE and later stopped using it once i started using forerunner 165 garmin (which is ugly but super functional)
My AppleWatch has been great. I use “functional strength training” for Pump, “Core” for Core, “Kickboxing” for Combat, and “HIIT” for Attack.
Adding that I have the cheapest one, the SE.
I think the Garmin dive watches are overpriced for what they are. I’d keep them seperate. Puck 4 for dive watch and an Apple Watch/garmin forerunner or something for your smart watch.
Well yeah… I mean a puck 4 + an AW is cheaper than a Garmin descent g2 and arguably better.
Yes, however some people may not like the tiny screen for diving. The puck 4 has a better battery life than the garmin. It's also 1 button which is a pro or con depending on your preference. The garmin is also bulkier than the AW for everyday wear. And 99% of divers will never use trimix, and if they do get into technical diving they would probably want a shearwater not a fitness watch. There are pros and cons to consider, nothing is a one size fits all. I'm no apple fanboy by any stretch but I don't think the AW is overpriced. Especially the SE.
I paid $121 for an Apple Watch SE refurb on eBay. It came with a one year warranty, almost to that mark now and it's been absolutely perfect for me. Love it in the pool and for other fitness work.
I got my Apple Watch to track my swimming. I've found I love it for daily life but I think it's great for swimming. I love the splits feature.
I have the basic SE Apple Watch, and I got the oura ring recently. My watch can’t track sleep because it always runs out of battery by bedtime, so the oura ring helps in that regard. On the other hand, I think my Apple Watch is better as a fitness tracker.
The biggest complaint most runners have about the Apple Watch is the battery life. I have one and it’s worked well for me so far, but a) I don’t like sleeping with a watch on so don’t mind throwing it on the charger every night, and b) I haven’t trained for anything longer than 10 miles yet. I think my Apple Watch SE will get me through HM training this fall, but whenever I’m ready to go for a full marathon I’ll probably get a Garmin or Coros.
