"My Apex 2 Pro lasts for about 3 days straight tracking my location, and I don't need to track when I'm stopped or sleeping. It realistically gets me 5 days of use between charges. ... If I ever do more than that, it's battery is so small it barely affects my power bank."

r/CorosIs pace pro overkill for a non-runner?

You dont have to run to use the coros system. The pace pro is functional really no different from the other models in the brand for the most part (pace pro has the amoled screen and less rugged than the more expensive models). It will absolutely be useful to show trends and measurements, however to monitor hr in real time during non activities would require changing the default setting and use more battery and you might not be super impressed with the sleep phases (no consume brands are 100 on that though) so its ok. Coros targets runners b/c i think thats the biggest market for sport watches and everything else is likely a big drop in share, as well as accuracy and modeling.

Congrats dude! I have owned both the 970 and Pace Pro, each has their pros and cons. The 970 definitely feels a bit more premium in the hand and on the wrist. The flashlight feature was helpful in some cases too. I ended up sticking with the Pace Pro, though. The better build quality and flashlight wasn't worth the extra $400 to me. That's not to say that the Pace Pro feels cheap either. Garmin had more smartwatch features, but I didn't use them all that much. The extra metrics I didn't find useful. The Pace Pro lacks in smartwatch features, but if that doesn't matter to you, it's a great running watch. Less metrics, but it has all necessary ones (at least for me). Also, the Pace Pro is lighter than the 970, if that matters to you when you run. I also much preferred the Coros app compared to Garmin Connect. I also used some of the accessories for each watch. The Coros heart rate monitor armband was much more comfortable to me than the Garmin HRM chest strap. It also was just about as accurate as the chest strap for me. Both are great running watches, can't go wrong with either. Just depends on what features you value. Good luck and enjoy your new watch!

Garmin seems to stop supporting their watches with new features within around 18 months of release. Also with the new Garmin connect subscription service, who knows how many things they will decide to lock behind a paywall in the future. The Coros Pace Pro processor is also better than the one in the FR--lots of people complain about the Garmin lagginess when moving around the maps. And for me personally, I'm trying not to support any US based companies due to the current administration.

I've just moved from a Pace 3 to a Nomad and, honestly, they're cracking pieces of kit. I've not had any issues with them since moving to Coros watches in February. For trails I would lean towards at least the Pace Pro or the Nomad/Apex 4 (they're basically the same) simply due to offline maps. Either way, Coros or Garmin, there's a device that meets your needs at a price you are willing to pay.

I got a Coros pace pro, it's been brilliant. If I had to get a new one today I'd probably go for the Coros pace 3, 90% of the features and everything I need for just over half the price.

They are a Chinese owned brand, if that matters. I have found it to be really accurate and reliable and a huge improvement on my old Fitbit charge 4. They undercut the market, which is good because the price of some of the other brands watches is kind of insane. And there is no need for a subscription or anything. The data that is available, dashboards etc. are all in the app and don't need any additional money to be paid to access them. At least not yet. I would recommend them, but obviously do your research and make a decision. DC rainmaker is a YouTuber who seems fairly reliable and makes good reviews videos. Though to be honest, it's kind of hard to go wrong. Whatever is your budget, whatever brand you go with. Especially if you're new to it, it is highly probable that you will only use a fraction of the features available so you'll be satisfied with whatever you go with I think. The build quality of the pace pro is good, lots of different watch faces to pick from, feels really premium. Had it a few months now and I'm happy with it. Should last a few years.

Oh and the battery life, I rarely charge more than once every 10 days if I'm really active. 2+ weeks if not using the gps on runs/cycles

I had the pace pro and now 570. I often regret the switch. Yes the Garmin feels more premium and the device has some extra features and stats. The reality is you will never really use them, even if they sound good on paper. The only think I would miss going back to pace pro is the body battery as I do think it gives a good representation. Coros listens to its users and community, pushes updates that actually benefit the consumer and is a much slicker app by far. If coros overhauled its watch faces to make the data customisable and/or they bring out and amoled premium device it would push me to go back. If I could turn back time I wouldn’t have ordered the 570 and kept the pace pro. Pace pro + HR band or shokz or pod 2 is so much better value

Plus 1 for Coros. Charge every 3 weeks. Lots of other great functions too and easily pairs with Strava, ride with gps etc. I have the pace pro

I have owned two Garmin watches, including currently an Epix Pro. If I had to do it over again I would have saved my money and gotten a Coros Pace Pro.
