r/skiingExperiences with Slopes using Garmin instead of Apple Watch?

As far as sports go, I use my Apple Watch strictly for skiing with Slopes For all other sports I use Garmin watches. Forerunner series for swim, bike, run, SUP, etc and Approach series for golf. I like the data Slopes gives (wish the HR data worked, no clue why it doesn’t pick it up) and the format, plus friends features when we get separated so will definitely continue with Apple/Slopes.

I do the same, coming from a Garmin Golf Watch for sports. I hope they will release another and more modern fitness tracker with a slim and small design to follow up on the vivosmart 5

I used my Apple Watch for a while and Golfshot was my preferred app too. I got tired of having to micromanage the battery so I picked up a garmin approach and I like it a lot more. The app tracks your handicap, average distance with each club, auto switches to the next hole - it’s awesome.

I have a Garmin approach watch and really like the long battery life and GPS accuracy. I’ve also found that the watch telling me where the middle of the green is, yardage wise, helps prevent me trying for hero shots where the pin is really close to the edge, and just focus on getting it on the green. Also harder to lose compared a range finder

I sold my Garmin. I went back to my Apple Watch.

It’s huge and the software is not great. I just found it was more of a burden than anything and unless you’re playing golf all day everyday it’s a poor substitute for an Apple Watch. For the cost of the garmin I expect a lot more.

Just a heads up, seems to me the Garmin does not keep an accurate handicap. Two of my mates have Garmin watches and we’ve realised that my handicap using SwingU is much more accurate because Garmins don’t use course ratings or slope. So imo SwingU and an Apple Watch is the go.
