Like all Garmin purchases, your choice will depend on how much functionality you want for golf, and how much functionality you want for running, and which one you prioritize. I have the S60 - it has everything I want for golf, and not quite enough for me for running. And I have a FR745 that has everything I need for running, but no golf. In a perfect world, I would just have a Fenix instead - 1 watch to rule them all.

I have the Approach s60. You get a color screen and it provides Front/middle/back reads to the green and adjusts for elevation. It syncs up to my phone easily so you can record your scores and review your shots (I recommend getting the Garmin C10 sensors you attach to your clubs. They're more accurate than you guessing where the ball went after your round) . Also use it for tracking running, biking, other workouts.

Hi everyone, i am looking into getting a good Golf watch, that i might maybe use for some general fitness, mostly in the gym. Primarily golf though, maybe a step counter if that is possible. I started some basic research by myself but i am absolutely swamped with information, as i am completely new to smartwatches and unsure what to look for. From what i can tell, the approach series looks best, but i am unsure with how low of a model i could get away, without any meaningful sacrifices. My main concerns for the watch: * I have never owned a smart watch yet, exclusively use android phones. * For golf i mainly want distances to hazards/hole + solid shot tracking with minimal effort (especially i do not want to use my phone during golf, this is my offline time) - Sensors seem a bit pricy, but i am open to getting talked into them. * Step counter would be nice, but i guess nowadays that is a given? * I would love to not overpay for features, that i do not necessarily need. Used/Refurbished watches are definetly possible. Questions: 1. Unsure, are there any apps that help with tracking gym process/workouts? Currently using the "Strong" app which is decent, but i dislike having my phone out. 2. My home course has terrible mobile internet (in Germany), do all the functions work with no/poor internet while on the course? 3. Can i check which exact courses are pre installed? Is it possible to manually install extra courses, that are not included in the advertised 43.000+ courses? I know how it is sometimes a bit lazy to just post here instead of doing my own research. I would also love to get some pointers on how to best research this myself, if outright recommendations are difficult. Thanks in advance!

I just got a cheap used S60 and you are right, i used the aiming feauture a lot in the 3 rounds i played, so it became kind of a must. If i ever do an upgrade, it will likely be a S70, as i would love to use it for lifting and some heart rate stuff, but the S60 does not support it at all, at least i cant get the lifting thing running. And no heartbeat sensor is what i am missing rn. For now the S60 is fine, S70 is just a bit pricey for what it does, i got a 100€ S60 from ebay and easily lasts 1.5 rounds. I charge it in the car when driving and never run out yet. Maybe when the battery eventually gives out, ill look for S70 :)

I do the same, coming from a Garmin Golf Watch for sports. I hope they will release another and more modern fitness tracker with a slim and small design to follow up on the vivosmart 5

I used my Apple Watch for a while and Golfshot was my preferred app too. I got tired of having to micromanage the battery so I picked up a garmin approach and I like it a lot more. The app tracks your handicap, average distance with each club, auto switches to the next hole - it’s awesome.
