"16 days battery life on my fenix. ... The other aspect I really appreciate about my fenix is the battery life. 16 days or so. With everything I have to change these days (laptops, mice, keyboards, headphones, watches, phones), I appreciate not having to worry about it too often."
"Battery life is super important to me. I do ultras so having 24+ hours of gps is necessary."
"My 43mm Fenix with Dual gps, Garmin live track, always on screen still had juice for up to 20-25 hours of running."

"The HRV and stress is not gimmicky in fact it was the heads up for my sister in law being diagnosed with cancer …her stress was screaming with no other really identifiable reasons (in 2022) ... in my case my stress was exceedingly high … for months & months and I kept having warnings and then I completely crashed with full on burnout ... Post my hysterectomy I saw crazy stress again ( not as bad as when I burned out but pretty intense) for the first 6 weeks & then it improved a little but it’s only come back to a normal place post 12 weeks & energy levels too only back to normal at 5 months …I didn’t have keyhole. But all that data correlates with the recovery pattern for major surgery & the fatigue was chronic for weeks ... the stress marker was defo the alarm bell for my sister in law and was indicative for me."
"What I love most are the customizable data screens. ... I’ve tailored the cardio profile specifically for my workouts. ... For example, in a “CrossFit Rounds” workout, I’ve set it up so I can track laps during an AMRAP and see if I’m going faster or slower than the previous round. ... The customization options are endless."
"2 miles of data sheets from all that tracking"

"Flashlight on my Fenix is worth A LOT of money to me. ... Having had it, I could not go back. ... I would happily pay 200 extra for it I use it so much. ... Having a flashlight on your wrist is incredibly handy."
"The red light on the Fenix line is AMAZING. ... I use it every single night multiple times as it makes walking around at night super easy and not at all straining on the eyes. ... Honestly, it might be my "I'm not giving up this watch for e.g. an Apple watch, ever" feature."
"My watch has a flashlight, which I also use daily."

"costing $1000-$1200, respectively ... can't, in good faith, recommend a high-end Garmin to anyone who isn't rich"
"But at its current price, it’s honestly a bad joke."
"by far the most expensive"

"During runs and activities, the Garmin watch cannot maintain bluetooth connection to the Airpods, and music starts cutting out. It gets resolved temporarily by pressing play/pause in the Spotify app on the watch, but the connection will cut out again within 5 minutes. I've searched Garmin forums and found that this issue has persisted since the Fenix 6, with no indication that Garmin plans to fix it. The #1 feature I bought a fitness watch for is essentially broken."
"I also missed cellular and having the full catalog of Spotify music to stream through cellular or live radio to stream from. Also I like the ability to remain contactable without a phone."
"when i am listening music from my phone: no interface for watch, no next / skip, or the most important the wheel for volume 😂"
Quick story: Have had an Apple Watch Series 6 for a long time (battery lasted less than a day). Decided to upgrade to the Apple Watch Ultra 3 - The battery lasted less than 48 hours (I’m aware that it’s reported at 42). By design, it’s a decent watch, but the battery life is laughable. It’s a joke. It’s just not worth the $ to me, especially considering I was only getting ONE additional day of battery life. Enter Garmin. I’ve had this watch for a day, and I’m extremely impressed and confident with my decision. Still getting to know this watch and can’t wait to put it to the test!
I’m also confused by your question. This isn’t the MicroLED version, it’s the 8 Pro - 47mm AMOLED. I wanted the Sapphire Carbon Gray DLC Titanium, which comparing between the 8 (16 day battery) and the 8 pro (15 day battery) is only a $100 price difference and a day less of battery life between the two.
It was only a $100 price difference.
It’s the perfect size for me. I thought about going for the 43mm, but I’m happy I went with the 47mm. I prefer the bigger display and the extra 5 days of battery life.
Fenix 8 Pro 47. Because my daughter gave it to me as a surprise for my birthday (before I had the FR-955).
I’ve slept with all models of Garmin watches, Instinct, instinct 2x, Tactix 8 51mm, fenix 8 pro 47mm. Never had a problem.
I have switched between Garmin and Apple for a few months. The one thing that kept me on the AWU was cellular. I needed it when I went for runs. But I didn’t like that I didn’t have all of the benefits of the Garmin built in. I needed to pay $400/yr on subscriptions for other apps to match the functionality of the Garmin. When Garmin released the Fenix 8 pro, that was it for me. I haven’t looked back. It’s been on my wrist since its release. It has smart notifications, I can answer calls on it, and it has everything I use built in. Golf, workout coach, dive app, offline topo maps, and running route navigation. All without a single additional subscription. Plus, it last me at least a week with multiple GPS workouts. And the best feature, cellular and satellite connectivity. Yes, it’s not as robust of the AWU, but it’s enough for me. All I needed it for was emergencies when out running or that rare instance when I don’t have my phone and my wife needs to talk to me. The only thing that would take me back to the AWU is if I NEEDED to be in contact with multiple people other than my wife 24/7. The AWU is basically a smart phone on your wrist. And if you need that level of connectivity all the time, then it’s perfect for you. But I didn’t want to duplicate functionality on a device that I already carry with me most of the time.
Most modern garmin devices have a speaker and microphone and enable taking calls when connected to your phone. Doesn’t matter if you have an android or iPhone. It’s basically acting as a Bluetooth speaker. The Fenix 8 pro has cellular that enables communication via the Garmin messenger app without a Bluetooth connection. Works very well if the other person has the Garmin messenger app also.
I got the Fenix 8 pro 47mm a few months ago specifically because of the off grid features. I frequently overland and camp in areas with no cell signal and my sisters worry. It didn't fully register for me how great all the other features are too. I love it for hiking and walking but it also tracks kayak/canoe trips, multi day expeditions, and all sorts of things I probably haven't even discovered yet. When I bought it I also needed a new phone. I was poised to buy a cheaper watch and expensive phone. Once I discovered this one has LTE and satellite, I chose an expensive watch and cheap phone. And nobody nags me about leaving the phone behind anymore lol
Do you happen to know how well a Huawei watch works with a Samsung phone? Is it more complicated than, say, Garmin and Samsung? It's not so straightforward with Huawei anymore. My ex-boyfriend is also thinking about getting a smartwatch. Health data and activity tracking are more important to him than smart features. However, it shouldn't be too complicated. I have a Garmin Fenix 8 myself and find the compatibility with Samsung to be very good. I also considered the Huawei GT6 during my initial search, but I had concerns about its compatibility with Samsung.
I'd be happy to do that. I have a Garmin myself. I initially looked at the GT6. It's supposed to be really good. But I had concerns about Huawei's ecosystem, since it's generally excluded. However, my ex-boyfriend is also thinking about getting a smartwatch and has his eye on a Huawei. So I'm doing some research. This information is already very helpful. It's definitely worth taking a closer look at the different models. Thank you so much for your help, and I'll let you know what I end up getting 😊
They are two different watches. One is a great smart watch decent at sports tracking (with the addition of various 3rd party apps), the other is a great sports watch with minimal smart features. And then there is the form factor. I went from AWU to Enduro 3 primary due to the looks and form factor but ultimately sold the Enduro 3 to get a Feinx 8 Pro 47 (again for the look and the form factor). If AWU was in the traditional round shape I would have gone AWU all day. The battery concern feels a little overblown. The AWU should last you two days and if you just plug it in during your shower you shouldn’t have to ever worry about the battery.
You and I are/were in the same spot. I got my AMOLED 47mm Titanium black DLC, a week or so ago from the same deal. I have not owned a watch in like decades but I love this watch and wish I had picked one up years ago, it really helps you if you are trying to get fitter. Its a lot of money so here is my opinion and hope it helps you: In terms of sizing, I believe the 47 and 51 have the same display size, so the only thing bigger about the 51 is weight, **battery** and bezel. I think most reviewers say the bigger watch gets you a day or 2 more battery than on the AMOLED. From your pictures, I have a slightly larger wrist than you, personally in terms of looks the 47 looks better on anyone with average wrist size like us. You'd really have to think about how much you prefer the MIP battery life for extremely long outdoor useage of if you want to charge your watch once a month (mine lasts about a week with AOD on). From what I've seen from reviews the battery on AMOLED version is more than sufficient for marathon/triathlons. In terms of the screen, my coworker has an instinct solar, its definitely not an ugly display but its also not comparable to any AMOLED from any manufacturer including the Garmin AMOLED version. I've been outside on walks/runs with my Fenix 8 and I've not been in any condition where I had trouble reading the AMOLED screen. Conversely, my coworker has a MIP Garmin and its definitely not as easily viewed in our office setting but its not as if you can't read it, its just not as easy to glance at in certain lighting conditions without the backlight. Weight is something you also should think about. The larger displays and the Solar in terms of specs are heavier which some people are sensitive to. I'm personally not. I saw a ton of reviewers say the weight of the Fenix is noticeable at night when sleeping compared to something like a Vivoactive, Venu or Forerunner. Personally, this is my first watch (smart, fitness) in decades and I can't tell the difference between this and the Vivoactive. I think the weight sensitivity is contingent to where you wear it, the closer to the wrist the more you feel the weight. There is also the nylon band option if the weight really bothers you.
Fenix 8 47 amoled safire. Because it was the same price as the 970 and I wanted maps.
I had the same upgrade decision, though because of an injury, I can no longer run (though I am very active with other activities both watches track). I think it really boils down to subjectivity. What do you think will look better? I bought the F8 47 Amoled during the recent sale so there was almost no $ difference. Did so because of the better build and look (at least to my eyes). Either one will be a huge upgrade from the Venu 2, which happens to be a great watch.
Fenix 8 47 amoled. Because I hike, run, bike a lot and like the design.
I have a fenix 8 but I currently have no plans to switch back to apple. At least in the near future. But garmin seems to get a bit too expensive for my taste so I wouldn’t not rule out the ultra when I upgrade in 2-3 years.
Well I just ordered the oura ring to see if that fits me better. Never worn a ring so not sure, but want to make a decision around Black Friday to see which to keep. I also wear a fenix 8 so I don’t really need whoop because why? I get accurate data with the F8 + chest strap I don’t need a second device with bad HR sensor. I also don’t use the strain feature as I have a training plan which I follow. So probably oura will fit me better. Will not wear it while gym etc but that’s fine as it syncs my garmin data
