Seems like I am replacing my watch every 2-3 years. Battery is always the reason. Have gone with the base models of the garmin forerunner (35,45,55) then finally upgraded to the 200 series most recently.

I've really liked all of my Garmin watches! Check out anything from the Forerunner line, like the Forerunner 55. And highly recommend getting a refurbished/used one to save money, if that's an issue for you. You can get the 55, 45, or 35 for a pretty good deal refurbished/used.

I would look for a used or refurbished Garmin Forerunner 35 or 45 (whatever you can find for cheapest). Also just to note, GPS is what allows watches to accurately measure distance and pace, so you’ll want a watch either GPS. However for the ultimate cheapest option, if money is really limited, consider just using a running app on your phone instead.

You're welcome! And yeah I agree, using a phone is super cumbersome. Having a watch is so much more convenient! Even though they can be pricey, I think they're a good investment. And the longevity of Garmin Forerunner watches is quite good in my experience. And also they stay fairly valuable as long as they still work, so if you eventually decide to upgrade to different model, you can still sell your old one!

I liked my Garmin forerunner 45, which from what I can gather was there least advanced model (I think it's the 55 now). It's also the least expensive, but I think you get alot of bang for the buck with out all the bells and whistles. GPS was almost always on point, had one bad experience, but other than that it worked well. A little slow when conneting to the satellites. With the chest band the I got all the data I need from my runs. Tried the wrist monitor once for comparison but it was of like 20 beats. Don't know if thats what you are looking for, but hoping it helps!

I did some gym work with it. From what I recall it wasn't a problem. The 45 is a small watch.

Older Garmin watches work fine, I regularly see runners with the 2015 Forerunner 235 at races. And used models will be fine, albeit older watches may have reduced battery life simply due to age. That’s the nature of rechargeable batteries I’m afraid, and it applies to all brands. I would recommend a Forerunner 45 as the minimum, or a 55, and if you can get a 245 in budget then even better Whichever watch you choose, go to [DC Rainmaker](https://www.dcrainmaker.com/) and search for his in-depth review of that model which typically includes a video. They will tell you all about the functions, how to use it, what it can do etc.

I have the Venu 3s and it is rated as a solid running watch on test forums. I run using the Garmin Coach 3 times a week and find the statistics completely sufficient. Previously I only had an FR 45 that could do even less. So it was a big upgrade for me. (But to be honest, the professional statistics would be too much for me, so not absolutely necessary). But if you can't wear your watch that often, then the Venu is too expensive. Then I would also go for the cheaper FR models. I mainly wanted something more stylish for everyday wear, as I feel like I wear my watches 24/7, which is why it suits me very well. 😊

I can't confirm. I had my FR 45 for 5.5 years and now my dad has it and the battery is still in great shape for its age. 😁

I love Garmin. Have had an old Forerunner 45s for a few years and planning to upgrade for the 255S version soon. They’re more sports trackers so their features are geared to that but Garmin also has the Venu or Vivoactive lines that are more smartwatch-y. Other than that I heard good things about FitBits and their sleep/lifestyle tracking but haven’t tried myself.

My Forerunner 45 from 2018 is still going strong too! Though I use Smashrun, not Strava.
