I have it for more than 2 years now. I have the 955 solar, but the solar is not useful as it needs many hours to charge only a little. Only when really low on energy and no charger it might give you a few extra hours of life when placed in the sun. My main disappointment was the maps feature. I've tried planning bicycle routes on it but failed completely, it always errors out with no route to be found. I did preload some routes, but that's too much hassle in general. Pairing it with my phone using Google maps and the Garmin gmaps app is 1000x more user friendly though. The music feature together with the screen was the main selling point for me.
My 955 solar will easily last 48 hours and it’s 3 or 4 years old.
I really appreciate this perspective! Before I bought my Ultra 2, I ordered a Garmin Forerunner solar model and I ran one short run with it. At the time I wanted to make sure I stayed connected (I’m in software sales so I constantly have emails and slacks to keep up with) and I immediately said this won’t work for me. So I returned it and got my Ultra 2. Flash forward and now I’m very much like I want to disconnect! I’m so tired of my watch going off every 5 seconds especially on my runs. I know I can silence it but it doesn’t change that you know it’s just sitting there waiting for you! This was actually one of the reasons I started revisiting the Garmin and other dedicated watches. I’m ready to start letting stuff sit and just disconnect and be present. But I’m just battling my internal monologue of get it and don’t spend money you have a watch!
I plan to keep rocking my 955 Solar until it dies, even then may keep it going. No feature has come out since that is a must have, multi sport garmin coach was tempting but quite frankly I’m still pissed the 965 was called 965 as opposed to 955 OLED like it was/is. I used it for a 19 mile hike the other day, faultless. Ticks every box & more I’ve needed.
Yes. I’ve had 3 Garmin watches & 3 bike computers. Currently have a 955 solar & it’s awesome. Excellent battery life, mapping & the data is just perfect. From the daily suggested workouts/Garmin coach where you input your races or make some up & it tailors a plan for you. It takes into account all your health metrics & helps you actually make progress. Worth every penny.
Garmin forerunner 955 solar
I got mine past year and it’s still getting updates. I bought 955 solar and I’m loving it. It’s like a fenix 7 on a budget and the maps are great. I recently got the lifestyle logging as well. It does pretty much everything and with the MIP DISPLAY lasts about two weeks recording workouts and stuff.
Venu series should be good enough and can look dressy for professional environment. I use it for running, swimming and HIIT with weights. It’s a good all rounder watch, I own a forerunner 955 solar as well and it’s very focused on running compared to my venu 3s. Despite many complaints I heard from Venu users for swimming I found mine pretty good. I count my laps and meters and it’s very close to the right number. Not even my forerunner is spot on. Also; the newest sensors combined with the light weight of the watch itself make it one of the most accurate I’ve used since it does not move a lot on the wrist. You could go with a 3 or a 4, they both have newer sensors but the bei 4 has more training features such as training readiness and training status and you might be interested in.
My garmin forerunner 955 solar lasts a full week of workouts with and without gps but it’s less of a smartwatch and more of a sports watch. My venu 3s with the same amount of workouts can go 4/5 days and it is more smartwatch than the forerunner.
Forerunner 955 is a lightweight fenix 7. It has all you need I think and it is very sturdy. Good for hiking too having built in maps and it loads them quicker than a fenix 7.
