I have always on DISABLED, autobrightness, im not using the gps, i dont receive that many notifications and im not using a particularly demanding watchface. Im only getting TWO days usage between charges, which is the same i was getting on my Galaxy watch, which is 7 years old, and has a fully-fledged OS and app store."

"keeping the map in an "always on" state will drain the battery, even on a long battery life watch like the GT5 Pro ... you're usually wanting to use the watch in "wake up" mode where if you look at it the screen comes up just like a phone, but that becomes impractical on the trails for real time usage."

HUAWEI GT-5 or 6 works flawlessly with my iPhone 13 and 15. The GT5 is a good looking very functional watch with a long battery life. The GT5 Pro is on sale as the new model GT6 is being released.

Are you in North America? If so, download the Optimity app, play a bunch of games until you can unlock the 20% off code. It should work on the 970 since it's been out for more than 2 months. I was thinking of the 970 myself, I think it's the perfect watch if you don't need the build and ruggedness of the Fenix series. Holding off only because I bought a Huawei GT5 Pro last year which is serving me well for the most part. I prefer the Garmin watches and ecosystem but maybe in another year when I get real tired of this watch.

Think I'm going to get a Venu 4 in 5 weeks when I can use my 20% Optimity code which I generated last year. Have a Huawei GT5 Pro now but I want the advanced Health metrics of the Venu 4. I like the yellow band as well with the silver bezel, will likely opt for that one. Originally, I wanted the Fenix 8 but the low speaker volume flaw soured my inclination to spend that amount of money on it. Then looked at the Forerunner 970 but it doesn't look like it'll have all of the advanced Health and Sleep features of the Venu 4. So I do think that the Venu 4 will be the best watch to suit my needs. Looks like the build quality is improved as well from the 3 which is a huge addition imo.

Hey u/KosOrKaos ! I need a review of your watch. I bought a Huawei GT 5 Pro last year — a super stylish watch. Even though NFC payments aren't available in most countries (and other features), its design and premium style convinced me to purchase it. Now, my wife uses a Galaxy Watch 7 (paired with a Samsung phone), and its integration is amazing! On my side, the GT 5 Pro "doesn't integrate very well" with my Xiaomi 13. Here’s what I miss: \- \*\*DND Sync\*\*: Turning on Do Not Disturb on the watch should automatically enable it on my smartphone. \- \*\*Alarm Sync\*\*: If the phone alarm rings, I should be able to turn it off via the watch. \- \*\*App Store\*\*: I know Garmin has this feature. \- \*\*NFC Payment\*\*: Garmin also supports this. \- \*\*YouTube Music App\*\*: Again, Garmin provides this functionality. My question is: based on the examples above, how has your experience been in terms of managing phone-related actions directly from your watch? For instance, can you read and replay notifications (including voice), toggle settings, or interact with your phone seamlessly using your smartwatch? Same question to u/Redditdotlimo , as you're sharing your review. Thanks!

Hi there. I bought the Watch 5 a week ago, coming from a 2018 Samsung Galaxy Watch with wearOS that still works perfectly. As for smartwatches, i mainly focus on design, screen and watchfaces. Sports tracking and health measurement is also important, but 3d party apps is almost useless to me. Having said that, i love the huawei watch 5 screen, design, OS interface, menus, navigation, etc. Health measurement is amazing, not only because the new x tap sensor, but because of the Huawei Heath app, which has excellent tracking. Also the watch itself is sleek, and georgeous. I have the titanium version. It only weighs 55gr, and its very comfortable to use all day, even while sleeping and exercising. Having said that... 3d app support is way worse than Wear OS or Tizen, of course. Google maps is not available, and notification management is also worse. You cannot view WhatsApp images or the whole conversation. Third party store is pathetic. You cannot browse it on the phone, you have to manually browse it on the watch, which is very cumbersome. A 650€ watch, which is supposed to be premium, shouldn't have such poor app gallery. And laat but not least... battery life has been EXTREMELY disappointing for me. Not disappointing, but EXTREMELY disappointing. Huawey claims 4 day on a regular use. Ive seen a few youtubers claiming 5 day usage (on normal mode. Not battery saving mode). I have always on DISABLED, autobrightness, im not using the gps, i dont receive that many notifications and im not using a particularly demanding watchface. Im only getting TWO days usage between charges, which is the same i was getting on my Galaxy watch, which is 7 years old, and has a fully-fledged OS and app store. I don't know, i like the watch overall, but i think it is too expensive for what it offers. Had i known about real battery life usage, i may have bought the oneplus watch 3.

I'll be honest, I don't think a smart watch is very useful for maps. I have one, a Huawei GT5 Pro, the maps are fantastic, the GPS is accurate, the heart rate monitor is exceptional. But it's just completely and pointlessly impractical to actually use for anything meaningful on the trails regarding the map, the screen is too small, it's difficult to use with gloves on and looking at a map on your wrist is less convenient than you might think. Not only that, but keeping the map in an "always on" state will drain the battery, even on a long battery life watch like the GT5 Pro, you're usually wanting to use the watch in "wake up" mode where if you look at it the screen comes up just like a phone, but that becomes impractical on the trails for real time usage. The real solution to this problem is actually a computer on your bike, where you can have a reasonably large screen to display information/map/gps, and then maybe using your smart watch to record your rides/data and occasionally glance at the heartrate/time/distance etc.

Yes, wearos watches battery is terrible, in order to make it a little better they (manufacturers) have to do many tricks, and users have to turn all off. And coming from a huge battery endurance watch of course you notice. But you need to think what is what you want from a smartwatch. For battery life and health-sports tracking, keep the huawei For payment apps and other apps, and better notifications, go wearos. It's like that. I have some huawei watches as well as Samsung, honestly I'm hooked with huawei, I prefer the health and sports tracking, and huawei does a better job, I do love to have Google pay and notifications with images but that is still not possible in huawei. Current GT5/pro has improve the notification of huawei with a full keyboard, and the payment apps will come this year with third-party services like Curves (Europe only for the moment) And in the case of Samsung, you can complement your watch with the ring, and use the ring for sleep tracking while you charge the watch overnight, and that why you can have something similar to your experience with huawei.

If you're on iPhone, the Huawei watch can sync with your Apple Health and Fitness apps via their Huawei Health App. Strava works too. When I record my running sessions via the Huawei Health app, it also gets recorded in Strava. I have the GT5 and all my steps, sleeping stats, and others sync.

Garmin Forerunner 55 is a basic running watch with an older chip. It doesn’t offer other lifestyle tracking features or smart capabilities. If you care for purely running metrics, maybe worth to get it. But personally, other than having a Garmin on your arm, the 55 doesn’t really offer a lot. For a Garmin, I’d probably go for models 165 up. But if you’re looking to use not just for running but for other sports as well, and have some lifestyle and smart features, there are better options like Huawei Fit 3 and the other options you provided. Huawei GT5 also has premium features for a higher price point.

I would recommend the quantified scientist on youtube - he tests all these smartwatches and compares their HR for instance with a chest-strap and sees who are best. Personally I use a Huawei GT5 which works fine for me. I also heard good things about the new Amazfit Helio Strap, which is like Whoop but without subscription and only 100 bucks.

Huawei smart watch are super understated. They have anything from SGD 50 to SGD 400 version. Other than the challenge of the Google map function, most people feel they outperform Samsung and apple smart watch. Suggest to check out their physical store. One of the newer version gt5 is out of stock in their physical stores. So sad. As a Garmin user, I probably need to get use to the crown /pusher at the side. Probably not an issue for analog watch users

You may try Huawei GT 5, it looks like an analog watch depende sa face na gagamitin mo. I'm currently using the GT 4 leather, easily blend as an analog watch. And can last 7 days without charging. Or you may try smart ring, di lang ako sure sa scope ng fitness feature niya.

I replaced my Samsung GW6 with a Huawei GT5 and I'm pretty happy about it. Battery lasts about a week with always on display. It doesn't do all the 'smart' things that a GW6 does and the app store is pathetic, but it turns out I didn't want to do those things anyway. For base watch and fitness tracker stuff it's great.

GT Pro series is essentially a "sports/fitness" watch. Premium materials, absurdly good battery life (like, 20 days), but it doesn't run a full smartwatch OS. You can take phone calls, see notifications and use basic maps, control your phones media and all your fitness tracking, but the "apps" you download are basically nothing. Needs to be tethered to a phone to work. The "Watch" series is a "proper" standalone smartwatch, in that it has it's own WiFi and eSIM support, and you can run "apps", although given it's HarmonyOS there's not a huge ecosystem in the west. Much bulkier, lesser battery life. I personally prefer the GT series as they're slimmer, and you can literally just leave it on your wrist for weeks at a time without worrying (and get proper sleep tracking), and I can live without the smartwatch features. My basic needs and notifications, call control, music control. GT Series does it fine. Ultimate series is basically a cracked up GT watch with absurd materials.

Not sure if the watch will sync to Strava (it might, but I don't use strava). Last I checked, Maps on the GT series requires you to set destinations on your phone, but once that's running it'll stream everything over. GPS tracking is perfectly fine, if you just want the tracking data and not to actually use maps for navigation. Music on the GT series is mostly about controlling music you've started playing on your phone. You can't see the playlist, you can just skip, go to previous, play pause, etc. You can manually add tracks to the watch, but the player is very basic; no streaming. Your headphones or whatnot will still mostly be connected to your phone. Huawei Watch can stream, but IDK any streaming apps for it. Ultimate series exists for rich people or scuba divers really. If I had the money to waste I'd buy one, but not for any specific feature 😅

Huawei sounds like a good option for you. It automatically syncs with Apple Health, battery life is great and the stats are pretty accurate. Oh, and the price is also not too expensive (for the GT series, that is). Another option could be Garmin, but their prices are high.

I have in the past but now I use a dedicated bike computer. There are some well within your budget that have maps and would be way better than trying to navigate using a small watch screen. There are a couple of Magene computers you can get on AliExpress that are highly rated for the $$. If you are really committed to having a watch, there are a lot of Garmin competitors that would work. I'm thinking Amazfit Trex (or one of the many other watches in the range), Huawei GT etc. off the top of my head.

If you will use the new functions that the watch allows you, it is totally worth the change. If it is only decorative, there are smartwatches with longer battery life at the same price. I went from the Huawei GT Line to the Galaxy, and it was totally worth it. If you have an LTE and you are worried about not being able to call in emergencies, use the "Watch Only" mode, you get up to a week of life and you use it when you need it.
