I used an instinct 2 solar for some time. Loved the battery life but really disliked the OS. Switched back to my Pebble time steel and have a Pebble time 2 on order.
Hi OP, I'm in the same boat as you. I even searched yesterday where the cancel preorder button is. I wore pebble Time almost majority of my life and now Galaxy Active 2 for about 3-4 years. I don't like my Galaxy (bulky, bad battery, useless fitness tracking that I don't need, bunch of options, always on display is crap); I did love my Pebble but I kind of feel Pebble is just old tech by now. The only major feature that I need is to answer a damn call on my wrist for 10-20 seconds and Pebble does not have it. My take is keep my preorder if I'm not happy at all with it I will sell it for like $200-180 and pick up an Amazfit or Garmin watch.
I’ve never looked beyond pebble for fitness & sleep information. Like the post workout notification that gives me the full rundown of the stats. I love the fact that I never have to start or end a workout, the pebble just knows. I’m using a ten year old Pebble Time.
"Longer battery life" Man, I wish they could get at least 3 days. I'm on 5+ days on my pebble 2 HR years later, and my pebble time 2 coming in december it projected to get 30 days!
Although im wearing my Pebble Time for years now and just today received the new Android app , Fitness tracking was never its strong point and is not suitable. Great watch tho
Can you wait a bit? I know you asked to help justify a purchase, but the Pebble Time 2 should be releasing in a month or two. There would be reviews, and you could make an actual informed decision. I ordered a Pebble Time 2, but a lot of the process makes me nervous, especially with such a ridiculously high price. You're getting an almost non-existent warranty, the prices are significantly higher, and nobody gets review samples first.
need convincing? seriously? how is that even a question. since the pt2 was revealed I can't look at the steel without gagging at the size of the bezel. that's why I resorted to my pebble 2 hr. if you go with the PT2, your upgrades are: almost 4x the battery life. bigger, better screen with touch functions. screws on back so easier to repair. heart rate sensor. better water resistance. borameter. mic AND speaker (allowing phone calls and assistant support) and the fact that it's something you're already used to, and there's only going to be new features that improve the whole experience. something that I never thought I would see again.
alright I'm almost exclusively a lurker on here, but I wanna take a crack at this. I got a few arguments for PT2 over amazfit 1. assuming you got your steel from Kickstarter, that thing is like a decade old. Having laptops that seem to shit the bed in like 3-4 years makes me value that life span a great deal. I still have my pebble time from Kickstarter and it hasn't wavered a bit these past however many years. I feel pretty comfortable hoping that this new line of pebbles will also last a good while 2. I think the new pebbles just look better than the amazfit. this of course is a purely personal opinion, but I think the pebbles look pretty good and the amazfits look like knock off apple watches and fitbits. along with this, I think Epaper is so much more appealing for a watch than AMOLED screen wise. AMOLED is so bright and power hungry. when I had an Asus watch, it felt too bright sometimes in low light setting as for Epaper is always readable aside from needing a backlight in darker settings. 3. pebble is open source and amazfit is not. Anyone can make an app for pebble and publish it for the community to enjoy and amazfit doesn't have this perk. I've never owned one so I'm not sure how comprehensive the app or watchface selection is, but in this arena, open source is rarely matched. 4. for something like a watch that you wear and look at everyday, I think it's absolutely worth it to invest the extra money for something that you really like (assuming your finanancial situation is in a place to do so). overall, pebbles have been the only smartwatch for me that feels like it does what it needs to without doing too much or trying to be a tiny phone on your wrist. pebbles don't overplay their part, they don't try and be something else, and I personally haven't encountered another product that holds a candle to pebble in most of these qualities.
Next best thing is the Fossil HR. There's barely any user-developed apps, it's a simpler experience, but I've been very happy with my Fossil Gen 5 via GadgetBridge. The Pebble relaunch inspired me to pick up an old Pebble Time, and after a decade I'm remembering why I loved the platform so much.
That's what made me so excited when I saw Pebble was back. I've never been so enthusiastic about a tech release, and the irony is that I'll be happiest if it's essentially the same watch as before but with better build quality. My third (second replacement under warranty) Pebble Time broke shortly after the warranty expired. I don't want a phone on my wrist. I want physical buttons, day readable, and a week or so of battery life. Essentially a Casio G Shock DW5600 with notifications and Spotify controls.
