Let me start by saying I have spent way too many hours researching the best smart watch for my needs. All the different options and features are overwhelming. So my hope is I can save you some time and stress if your needs are similar. I am starting to count calories and workout again with a mix of strength training, pilates, walks and running. I wanted something that could track my calories burned, step tracker, heart rate monitor and obviously simply tell time without being too big on my wrist. Also receiving reminder notifications from my phone and messages were important too. I've gotten many cheap fitness watches over the years that never lasted long so it was time to spend some more money on one. I have an android, so at first I went with the galaxy classic 6 43mm in silver. The rotating bezel was awesome and the watch had everything I needed and more, but as a female the size was way too big on my wrist and the silver color made me look like a spy kid. The bezel made it look chunky. I returned it and researched Garmin instead. Vivoactive 5 I considered but many reviews said it was not worth it. Has too big a watch face for me anyway. The forerunner 165 is great if you care about detailed running metrics at a lower cost. I ran a half marathon for a college elective and only really learned about many of the metrics from that class. So if you're big into running, I'd definitely recommend this one. Still a bit too big for my wrist though. The venu 3s I also highly considered and is a popular choice amoung smart watch users. Has all the features you need, but still was too big for me at size 41mm. This one is on the pricier side but has more features and a longer battery life. It's great for an all around fitness and lifestyle watch. If you have the money and don't care about the size as much, I recommend this one and almost got it myself. I finally landed on the lily 2 active. The smallest Garmin watch I could find at 38mm. 2 side buttons, and it had all the features I was looking for as mentioned above but could see myself using more features as time went on. I really didn't feel I needed anything too complicated. The screen is in black and white vs color, but as a previous review had said, if I want color I can just look at my smartphone. I decided to buy the lily 2 active and am so happy I did. It's the perfect small size for me and looks sleek. Even has sleep score and body battery functions, which will get more accurate as time goes on. The silver color does NOT make me look like a spy kid. The lines on the screen took a little time to get used to, but are not a big deal to me. I love that I can choose what notifications I want to receive on my watch on ALL my phone apps. If you want to see the feature comparisons in detail side by side you can search "Garmin product comparison" in your browser which I found helpful. If you have any questions I'd love to help if I can!

Amazing... And I have 4 other Galaxy watches to compare. My GW6 Classic is pretty close, but the ultra really is ultra. I work out 6 days a week and live a very healthy exercise lifestyle. Results are very consistent and TBH, most of the earlier watches do a pretty good job. The ultra has the best sensors to date and the best battery so far.

I have both and both are almost the same as far as operational use and sensors. If battery is a big concern, get the Ultra 100%. The 8C, while stylish and with the rotating bezel gets similar time as my 6C between charges but I do work out a couple hours a day 6 days a week. The ultra gets me around 2.5 days and my 8C and 6C both give me around 1.5 days. I have everything on always because I don't want to dumb down my smart watches.

I disagree Ultra 2 totally sucks for my work outs. I wear a Samsung Classic 6 for side by side comparison and the Heart rate vary consistently between both up to 20 bpms. The Ultra 2 on the treadmill winds up looking for a heart rate a lot. If you try and use it for Boxing work outs or jump roping it goes haywire by switching screens, creating new segments every few seconds depending how hard the work out is. As a smart watch its probably the best but work outs it has me frustrated where I am looking to get a chest strap instead and take the watch off as it becomes a hindrance more than useful

I own both the watch 7 (same internals as 8), and a watch 6 classic. Both are the 40/43mm versions, so same screen and battery sizes. Battery life is very very similar, so "especially battery life" is a bit of a overstatement to say the least

My last 4 watches have been Samsung Galaxy watches. Hasd the? Watch 6 classic but the lag was bothering me. Bought the watch 7 and pixel watch 3 at the same time and the watch 7 is going back as the pixel watch 7 screen , health tracking , battery life are all much better . Watch 7:battery only lasts a day if that. The pixel watch 3 is a two day watch . Now I do have a Samsung phone so the timer and do 🚫 t disturb don't sync with the the phone. The pixel OS is a lot more mature and smoother feeling to me.

Switched from Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 Classic LTE to Pixel Watch 3 45mm bluetooth . Used to own a Galaxy Z Fold 4 pairing with the watch. Then switched to Google Pixel 9 Pro XL a year later after having an issue with the phone and claimed the warranty, then sold my galaxy watch to my friend and bought the Pixel Watch. Love the Pixel Watch battery life, 9 hours working drop from 100% to around 75%, sometimes 71% but still better than the Galaxy Watch, can't stay alive that long( battery saving On, LTE Off, AOD Off). Pixel Watch is set to AOD On, battery saving off, gesture tilt to wake off. Also the smoothest is also better, than sometimes the Galaxy Watch doing some lagging on the animations. But the classic looks on the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic is amazing and of course I love the rotation bezel. But the Pixel Watch has the rotating crown and it is just beautiful.

I had Galaxy watch 6 classic and pixel watch 2 both which I was using with pixel 8 pro before moving to pixel 10 pro. I kept switching between these two for some time and then ended up wearing more of the Galaxy watch 6 classic . My reason would be a better look and feel of classic, not willing to pay for the Fitbit premium. Now moved to Galaxy watch 8 classic. No doubt pixel 4 is much better than what pixel watch 2 but I see still behind Galaxy watch also need to pay for Fitbit if need to unlock all features. From software you will need to install at least Galaxy wear and Samsung health. Though there is issue with Galaxy watch 8 paring with pixel 10 right now .

Hard to say, Classic 6 was a nice model, much nicer than the ultra 7. The classic 8 won't be as nice but I just don't like the 7 ultimate and I can't wait to get rid of it. Managed to get such a good deal that it is no trainer. Change if you like a new toy every now and then. You can always send it back and keep the classic 6

I am about as hard on a watch as anyone would be, doing manual labor for 8 hours a day (wide variety, farm chores, sawmilling, tree climbing, trenching, pruning, crawling around gravel under machines, reaching into engine bays that tear up my hands, roofing, framing, irrigation, stone work, concrete work, painting, staining, and more).  I have 1 little chippy scratch on my galaxy 6 classic that I can notice when the screen is off.  The bezel still works fine.  Battery life is as new.  I've had it for 2 years now.  My co worker has an apple watch and his holds up just as well.   On another note, I have been considering joining the dark side and giving up my previous s-pen, and your frustrations echo my reservations.

Galaxy watches heart rate algorithm is notoriously slow. It works fine for day to day wear or steady state workouts but takes forever to catch up to heart rate increases on intervals or sprints. The daily energy score is also not the greatest especially since it dings you for rest days but the score can be ignored if you're not interested in it. The last big thing is hrv. For whatever reason, Galaxy watches always give a hrv value much higher. DC rainmakers review shows this as well. I had a 5 pro, 6 classic, and ultra. Unfortunately none fixed these issues. Galaxy watch does have better GPS (on the ultra anyways). I'm hoping the pixel watch 4 fixes it now that its dual band

Now that Samsung has officially announced the new Galaxy Watch lineup, here’s my honest take on it: If you're still using the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic or anything older, this year’s models are actually a *huge* upgrade — performance, sensors, hardware, software, and especially battery life (thanks to the new chip) all see solid improvements. So yeah, definitely worth considering an upgrade if you're coming from one of the older generations. But if you're currently on the **Galaxy Watch 7**, moving to the **Watch 8** just isn’t that exciting. The upgrades are *very* minor: * A bit more storage * Wear OS 6 (but Watch 7 will get this too) * A few new health metrics like the antioxidant index Unless you *really* want things like the physical rotating bezel, or just need that extra storage, it's probably better to hold off. As for the **Galaxy Watch Ultra**… honestly, I’d say skip it. Compared to the Ultra 2024, it’s basically the same watch: * Same design * Same sensors * Same functionality * The only “new” stuff? A blue color option, extra storage, and Wear OS 6 pre-installed — all of which the 2024 model will get too (minus the blue, which you can fix with a 3rd-party strap anyway). So yeah… feels like you're just paying more for almost the same thing. 😂 Just my two cents — curious what others think!

But the battery size is the same as GW6C and less than the GW5P. They even claim the same battery times with the 6c themselves. How do you make such a statement when it contradicts their own? Other than that, smaller screen and ugly design (watch people's reaction and reviews) with no support for normal straps. Only good is the dual gps and maybe the new sensor but the features they provide sound minimal at best. This release is going to be a failure. Watch them go in complete denial and claim that people don't want the classic lineup before they discontinue it.

Feel the exact same way. Got a new job and a new phone and decided to give Samsung a try. Bought a second hand Watch 6 Classic to stay in the same eco-system. Was hoping for a good health/running experience, but it is just mediocre at best. Thinking about buying a Instinct 2(x) as well and selling the GW6C.

Honest thought, they messed up the 8 classic by only offering a small screen and the battery increase from the 6 classic is tiny. Unfortunately unless proper reviews show that the biosensor has drastically improved, it's not going to be that different from the 7 series, or 6 series. They do have new measurements/ features, but if they are software locked behind a need to have a Samsung phone then they are useless to non Samsung phone users. The chipset not being updated from the 7 series is also disappointing, and it doesn't actually perform that much better in real life usage vs the 6 classic chipset (I think all of the more recent OS updates on the 6 have improved it's performance).

It has the previous chipset gen. My wife has the watch 7, which has the same chipset as the 8 series, no real snappiness difference in scrolling or waking up (still sluggish on the 7) compared to the 6c. The newer chipset should be more power efficient, haven't tested that.

Big meh, I had one - had the Galaxy 6 classic before that. The battery life was not great (<2 days) with AOD on. Yes apple watch is worse, but I replaced the 7 with a One Plus watch 3 and get just over 5 days which makes a huge difference. Besides that, it does everything I need or want it to for a smart watch (other than ECG not being activated in Canada). I also use a Samsung, and the One Plus integrates perfectly with it.

I have both galaxy watch 6 classic 43mm and Garmin vivoactive 5. I also cannot decide which watch to use. But the body battery usually give me a low score compared to energy score and state that the amt of stress during sleep contributed to the lower body battery. Eg, it could be sth like a 60-70 range for body battery but 80-90 range for energy score. I run the same route 3x a week with various device. So distance looked accurate enough for me, with Garmin usually slightly longer even compared with Apple watch. Stats are also similar. I guess it really boils down to battery and user interface that's up to preference.

I tried a Garmin Forerunner but couldn't figure out how to customize it (and I'm pretty tech savvy). Sold it to a triathlete. I'm a Samsung gal and I love my Samsung Galaxy 6. I easily customized it so that getting to the swim app is just one face swipe and a click. It auto detects my strokes pretty reliably and even though I don't do flip turns it knows when I switch direction and gets the distance right.

I have both a garmin Epix Pro and Samsung Watch 6. Body battery is very accurate. Sometimes I wear both watches to bed and for a hike or run to compare. The Garmin is more accurate and has a way better battery life. But it is also heavier and 5x the cost. After a beer and wings night or a late night hockey game you can see the effect on your body battery, and it matches how I feel the next day. Basically it's good for telling you when you need to give your body (and mind) a rest. I also like that Garmin has a website to review Data, but do prefer the look and layout of the Samsung Health App. long story short, if you got the 1k, the Garmin is the better choice.

I'm a toddler parent and went from Galaxy Watch 6 to a Venu 3. The Venu is way worse at detecting wake ups. Like I'm up at night to put my kid(s) back to sleep and it'll take 40 min and the Garmin would still insist I slept well and was only awake for 10 mins during the night. Just based on aligning with how I felt, the Galaxy Watch 6 was much better.

Over-Temperature-602 • 27 days ago

I came from a Galaxy Watch 6 to a Venu 3 so maybe I can give you some perspective? The GW6 is a smartwatch, the Venu 3 is a sportswatch. I don't care how much Garmin tries to sell it as a smartwatch. The difference between a real smartwatch and a Garmin watch is night and day. I think really the only thing Garmin has going for it is the battery time. It's great compared to all the real smartwatches but it of course comes with a price. The UI on the watch looks like it's from the early 10s, the animations are nowhere near WearOS or Apple Watch OS. The notifications are very poor in comparison, the integration with an assistant (Gemini) is slow and weird. The UX in general is kind of garbage. I also found the sleep tracking on the GW6 to be much more reliable. I have small kids so I wake up every now and then during the night and on the Garmin - it's so frustrating to be told in the morning that I had a great night of sleep with only 10 mins of time awake when I spent 40 mins trying to get my 2yo to fall back asleep. What I miss from the GW6 is that \* The notifications were so much better. I could act on notifications \* The visual elements looked much nicer \* The assistant was actually useful (I used to start timers from my wrist by voice) \* Steps tracked across phone/watch. With a Garmin, you have to wear the watch to get your steps counted (so no steps on days where you might not wear your watch for an event or something), and you also need to not... push a stroller around for example which I do a lot. Not an issue on GW6 since it would use a combination of phone+watch steps but Garmin does only watch so the step data is completely useless for me \* Apps. I have never had an Apple Watch so I don't know about the app offering there but on WearOS, it was okay-ish. I could install Google Calendar on my GW6. I also installed FotMob so that I could get football results on my wrist. The GW6 allowed me to put the phone away more reliably because I could add a calendar event, I could check the football scores, etc. on my watch. I spent a lot of money on a Venu 3 and I still have no idea what I paid for even though I am several months in. Garmin decided against putting running features into it so it's very limited for my running. At the same time I don't feel like I got anything else instead. So I am definitely disappointed in this purchase and wouldn't recommend the Venu 3. Now the Venu 4 seems to be more rich in features and comparable to the FR 570. But I think the point still stands that AW and wearOS watches are smartwatches. Garmin watches are still sportswatches which can do some smart things (but in a wonky way)

Used a samsung watch 6 previously. In the H365 app under samsung health, you need to pick a specific device. So let's say you have your samsung phone, samsung watch, samsung ring. You can only pick 1 device which they will sync from. If you pick your samsung phone, even when your watch and ring data syncs into your phone, it will NOT sync all in totality. It will only syncs the data from your phone itself. So gotta pick the right device. Switched to garmin and never looked back lol.

I don't know anyone who has a Fitbit now, and only one person who has a Garmin. Everyone else I know has an Apple watch or a Samsung Galaxy. The Gyms workout app won't take any info from my watch. You’re absolutely right to look past the glossy marketing and ask for real-life feedback, because fall detection is one of those features you really want to know is going to work when it matters. I’ve set up a few different smartwatches with fall detection for older family members, and also wear one myself when hiking solo, so I can definitely give some boots-on-the-ground perspective. The Apple Watch (Series 4 and up) still sets the gold standard when it comes to fall detection. I’ve seen it trigger a few times, once for my mom when she tripped on her porch, and another time when I slipped on icy steps. In both cases, it gave a haptic alert, started the countdown, and if no action was taken, it followed through and sent the emergency call as expected. It also pinged the emergency contacts with location info. That peace of mind is hard to beat. The main catch: you need an iPhone to pair it, and the cost isn’t cheap, especially if you’re getting the cellular model so it can operate independently. For Android users, Samsung Galaxy Watch (especially the Watch 5 and 6) is one of the stronger alternatives. It does have fall detection and can send alerts to emergency contacts, but the setup isn’t quite as intuitive, and the sensitivity seems to vary more than with Apple. My uncle had one and it worked okay, but we had to fine-tune the settings so it didn’t false alarm when he dropped to tie his shoes too fast. That said, the newer Galaxy models have improved that a lot and are generally pretty sleek and comfortable for daily wear. Garmin makes some models with incident detection too, especially for active users. If your concern is fall detection during exercise like cycling, running, or hiking, it’s great. But it’s less ideal for general daily wear or older adults, since the interface isn’t the most senior-friendly and the detection is more tied to activity than general falls. If you're looking for something lightweight, reliable, and not wildly expensive, Samsung is a solid middle ground. But if your priority is emergency handling that just works, Apple Watch still leads the pack. Just make sure the person wearing it understands how the alerts work and how to cancel them if they go off by mistake. That small bit of prep can make a huge difference.

I wore my galaxy watch for 3 years climbing with no protection on it and while it got some scratches, it never really got anything on the screen and nothing cracked, it's a pretty durable piece of hardware. The only time it really got in the way of climbing was on the occasional very large sloper where you get an arm on the hold and on crack climbs. I don't wear it anymore because I no longer enjoy smart watches in general, but it was a pretty solid piece of tech in terms of durability.

People have been claiming that Google was going to end fitbut over 2 years ago. It's still fine. I tried a galaxy watch, but you have to charge it every day, just like the apple watch. My fitbit goes for days. I just charge it every other day while I shower. I've never run out of battery.

There's nothing wrong with climbing with a watch on. I do it almost exclusively with my Galaxy watch that I like and tracks pretty much everything you mention. Throw a wristband over it to keep it from getting scratched up and you're good to go. Just make sure to loosen it a notch before your session to allow for muscle contractions.

I have a Galaxy watch now, but it's crap as a fitness tracker. When I want accurate data, I wear my old Garmin. I think it's a Forerunner 235? That may not be in production anymore, but any of the entry-level Garmins would work.

Yup. I've never scratched a watch in my life but my Pixel Watch 2 scratched all the time, even rubbing against my sheets when I slept. Luckily I was able to get it replaced later on under warranty but ever since I've used screen protectors to prevent scratching. I've owned three generations of Galaxy Watch and never scratched a single one so it's definitely not me but the Pixel Watch itself.

I trashed one Galaxy Watch by wearing it in a dry sauna for 20 minutes and then immediately swimming laps in a cold pool. Since then, I don't chance it with my new watch. It's sits safely in a locker with my phone and ear buds, while I'm in the sauna.

I've used them all, not sure I agree that the aw is better, galaxy has some really important (for me) things that aw doesn't. Also, I like round for watches, the aw is basically a tiny iPad! If you are really into watches though, Garmin is miles ahead of both. Expensive but worth it, if you're an enthusiast.

Galaxy Watch probably has the most of what a WearOS watch can offer but a fair bit of features are Samsung exclusive. Pixel Watches I believe offer mostly the same with a little less bells and whistles than a galaxy watch but with better health features with fitbit integration that isn't locked to pixels. Also looks more fashionable IMO. Blends with my outfits when using a stylish watch band. Just looks like a watch instead of a smart watch. One plus I don't know too much about other than it has actual battery life that lasts days. I feel like it would be the defacto best one but I haven't heard many people speak on it.

Don't get Samsung Galaxy watch if you want to connect with H365. I just got it recently. The step sync with H365 is always less by atleast ~1000 steps. Doesn't sync sleep hrs and MVPA at all. I'm losing the points because of this. I tried to change some settings from online reviews and also tried reconnecting with app/watch etc. Still same. Checked with both Samsung and H365 customer service. Both useless and don't have a solution for this. Both sides blaming the other for this issue. I can't return the watch because the 14 day return period is over. I don't like it but still using because no choice. My previous apple watch and Garmin was great. Everything sync perfectly.

Bought my mother (83 yo) a FR265 to monitor her heart rate while cycling and to use the live track feature in case she has an accident while out riding. Garmin decided to put live track behind a subscription, so there's no way I'd recommend it anymore. Samsung galaxy watch has some useful health tracking data, but battery isn't as good as Garmin's. When they do, I'm off Garmin.

Aside from navigation, a dedicated bike computer will give all information you need on your handlebar. Like what the OP asked, real cyclists need to see the information when they need to as looking at your wrist while biking isn't ideal. Also, my experience with using my Galaxy watch which biking isn't that great as it drains the battery really quickly.

You will be back to Garmin lol. I've tried apple watch ultra, Samsung Galaxy watches and ultra, and pixel watch 3. Nothing compares to the metrics Garmin provides. Plus the battery life is incredible. Don't have to think about charging at all. Everything is built into Garmin. You don't have to pay for other apps to get similar functionality. I'm a golfer and it's so nice to have the golf features built into the watch versus having to pay extra for them. Morning report is amazing. Body battery. Now evening report too. Plus the watch is very reliable. I can't go back. I love my Fenix 8 too much. And the flashlight is chefs kiss.

Its very dependent on your budget, what phone you have, battery life you want, and actual features you want it to have. If you have a samsung phone, you can get either a Galaxy Watch (high on features, but only 2 day battery) or a Galaxy fit (very limited features but 7 day battery life) If you have an iPhone, obviously the Apple Watch works best, but battery life is abysmal. If youre ok with a 3rd party watch that has its own app to sync, the Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro is pretty hard to beat. 10-15 day battery life. Has built in GPS, dive computer, and looks sleek as hell.

I have a Garmin vivoactive 5 and mostly love it. I use to have a Samsung Galaxy watch. Pros: Long battery life. 7+ days without GPS turned on. The outdoor rowing app is super nice and I love being able to see the output of my row after I get off the water. I'm not going to lie - this is the whole reason behind this new watch purchase. Lighter than the Samsung. Cons: Can't actually create individual text responses. HR monitor isn't as accurate as a chest monitor (I compared it once) but still better than my Samsung. I'm not an iPhone user so I can't offer a comparison. But I have no regrets with my Garmin watch purchase. Edited - added another Pro.
