Although it's much smaller, I prefer my venu 3s over my galaxy watch 7, will probably upgrade to the venu 3 sooner or later, but for now this is perfect
Garmin. I have both. Heart tracking on GW is a joke
From an older Galaxy Watch? Yeah the Pixel Watch will be more accurate. From a Galaxy Watch 7 or 8? It will be roughly the same. GPS was an area of difference but the GW7 has been improved with updates and the GW8 is pretty much par with PW. For most cases any of the major smart watches like the GW, PW or even AW are close. So I wouldn't make your decision on that basis. Comparing the Galaxy Watch and Pixel Watch I'd look at what device you're pairing it with and the unique features each offers.
Worked fine on my GW7. Guy who made it put out a video walk through recently with the latest way to do this. https://youtu.be/xSjURFKQB2A?si=ZrinWNT3nhN3yLDG
I've been eaten alive for saying this, but I'll say it again. Most information available comparing smart watch accuracy find them pretty close to each other. If you want something to generally track this information then Galaxy Watch is a perfectly fine pick. If you're doing more extreme sports then someone more rugged like a Garmin smart watch might be a better pick. If you want the absolute most accurate measurements then get a medical device that measures that. Smart watches are not designed or claim to medical devices. Just accurate enough to be useful overall. You may have times where it misses something or has blips but the overall result is accurate to be actionable. And Galaxy AI can offer suggestions that may be helpful in improving your health or exercise routine.
If you're worried about battery life, I wouldn't go lte. Drains battery faster. Same thing with your phone on mobile data vs wifi. My gw7 dropped almost 30% battery to youtube music in around 3 hours of playback. That was using my galaxy buds, and having the songs pre-downloaded... on the 44mm Bluetooth model.
Oh yeah without youtube, I took this thing off at 3 am yesterday... at 65%. Music dropped it to that in a few hours though.
I got a refurb from Amazon for 150 US, and saw it for 140 a week later. Looks and works like new FWIW.
Hello, friends, I am writing this post to express my frustration, disappointment, and regret for buying Galaxy Watch 7 as a runner. I am a long time runner by now, and fairly advanced. Before, I used to use Garmin Fenix 5S which lasted me almost five years before it gave out. Buying a new Garmin was scary expensive, so I decided to give Galaxy Watch a go as the tight integration with the smartphone was a big selling point for me. Regret was almost instant. While I won't argue that if you are a very casual runner or a beginner runner, you might have your needs met, if you are a serious runner you won't do well with this watch. Let's begin with the fact that there's little to no workout customisation. On Garmin, you can very easily create runs and customise them as you want: not only set desired pace, distance, or time goals, but also to easily segment your runs using those parameters and have your watch guide you. The Galaxy Watch offers little to no customisation in this regard. It has a very simple interval training function, and a very disappointing "Coach", which has artificial and absurd limitations that I struggle to understand why are they even in place. For example, you can only select pre-set run types, most of them force a warm up and cool down. For example, my personal best for 3KM is 11:15. I wanted to train to keep around that or beat the time. With Garmin, it's ridiculously easy. With Samsung Health, the watch won't let you set a guided run for 3KM that'd be faster than 20 minutes? WHY? Furthermore, the GPS is bad. Strava is almost anecdotally known at this point to always steal 10-20 meters for your runs, but with Galaxy Watch I'd end up actually have 100-200 meters ADDED to my run. The reason is that Strava actually uses the real-life data they have on distances and compare it with your track, and then adjust accordingly. This shows just how inaccurate Galaxy Watch tracking is. And the biggest issue of all: Watch UI 8 is supposedly going to bring a Garmin-like adaptive running coach to the watch. Yet, it's being purposefully withheld from Watch 7 (which is literally the latest model before Watch 8) in an attempt to force people into buying Watch 8 because Samsung isn't meeting their sales expectations. While they released a beta for select countries, there is absolutely no reason to put this only redeeming feature for runners behind a lock as all of the calculations are done by the app and not watch software. And even so, those who got access to the feature say it's still heavily based on beginners and completely useless for serious runners. I ended up selling the Watch 7 at a loss and bought Garmin Instinct 2. Instantly rediscovered the joy of proper running features. Mind you, these watches cost around the same price as a Galaxy Watch. So do think twice. The disappointment and regret is immeasurable.
I appreciate your reply. I do agree that as SMART-watch, it was amazing. But as a fitness watch, for me, it was horrible. I am just upset that they made a watch that otherwise could be a great all around device with its only drawback being battery life, but they completely neglect their running features
Yeah, the battery on the FE is definitely the shittiest of the current lineup. The FE is actually a rebranded Watch 4, which had a slightly smaller battery and a worse screen than the Watch 6 or Watch 7. Honestly, if you can, it might be worth swapping yours out for a Watch 6 or Watch 7 for the slightly better battery life. I mean, battery is still going to be kind of shit, but at least you should be able to get a single full day out of the 6 or 7. Also, sorry about the haters! I think your nails are fun!
I use both the Galaxy Watch 7 and Garmin Instinct 3 Solar. I wear the GW7 during the week and the Garmin I3 Solar on the weekends, when I travel and on vacations so I don't have to worry about charging and I have something that'll actually last during full day GPS tracking. I like the Garmin health tracking but dislike not being able to select the notifications I want on the watch as well as the GW7.
