I have both. Apple Watch does not record VO2max data for my daily exercise, which is “Nordic Walking with poles”. The ring does record it although for some unknown reason that data is not copied over to the Apple health app! Another reason for having both is sleep tracking. The ring gives several days worth of battery life. The watch only a day and a half. (For data collection other than VO2max I take the Watch off overnight putting it into low power mode.) I have found that using the ring and its app my sleep have improved significantly.

I use an Ultrahuman RIng Air to collect sleep and some exercise data. Full scale exercise data comes from Apple Health, GPX Tracker, and Withings apps. All these integrate into Apple Health for which there is a published API or it is possible to output a complete data dump from Apple Health. The native Apple Health data originates from either/both of my iPhone or Apple Watch. Unfortunately the Ultrahuman app is not fully integrated into Apple Health. Some of the data items never get carried across, for exampe, VO2max collected by the Ring does not appear in Apple Health. I have bitched about that in the Ultrahuman subreddit several times and will continue to do so but there has, as now, been no progress in a fuller/complete integration between the two apps. The Withings App on the otherhand seems to have bi-directionala integration with Apple Health.

I’ve had it for a month and it was a NIGHTMARE. I’ve literally got a reddit account today so I can let people know about it. The ring wasn’t accurate for me- I tracked my own heartbeat and compared, and the number wasn’t matching. Other measurements never worked and it was shown in the app and customer service had no means to fix or support. Customer service was another nightmare for me. It seems that at the end of the day or a conversation they log off from the thread, leaving you to reexplain the whole matter nearly every single day which drove me insane. I ended up having a prewritten message explaining the matter. Finally, I decided to return the ring which I had to basically beg for and since then customer service has gone quiet with no information on how to proceed!!! Honestly, don’t do this to yourself.

I'm here to ask the age old question, has anyone found a fitness tracker that is reliable with reading your heart rate through tattoos? I had a fitbit inspire 2, it worked most of the time but not always (particularly it would never read my heart rate accurately when on the stairmaster). Now I have an ultrahuman ring, thinking it wouldn't be an issue on my finger since I only have a single letter on it. I always make sure the sensor is on the opposite side when I'm working out, but the tracker is all over the place and overall, very inaccurate. At this point I'd love to add something that I could wear even just for workouts, but I'm tattooed on both wrists, all my fingers, my stomach.. I'd love to know if you've found anything that works. TIA!

I quite like my Ultrahuman ring but I’m worried about its longevity. I purchased it in October, they sent me a replacement in December as I was having a known issue of the battery draining very quickly. So far I haven’t had any major issues with my replacement besides the fitness tracking being inconsistent. The Fitbit inspire was not horrible, but more basic data. For me, the Apple Watch was too many notifs. I think I’d like it more if I didn’t pretty much always have my phone on me.

Check out Hume Band from Hume Health. I purchased a Hume Body Pod (smart scale) and am very happy with it. After getting the scale, they are now pitching me on the Hume Band. Looks like a Whoop clone. First, Hume BodyPod scale is excellent. Looks, build quality, the app is clear and well designed. I really like it after 2 months. FYI - I wore Whoop for 2 years and now have an Ultrahuman ring for 1.5 years. Reason to move to the Hume Band is that it will integrate with same app as the BodyPod. Haven’t done it yet.

I tried the Ultrahuman ring for a few weeks but it was uncomfortable during the night and in the gym. At the end I tried whoop and I'm still using it. It's not bad, more precise than I expected.

So, the top three now are Oura, RingConn, and Ultrahuman. Oura requires a subscription, so it's out. Ultrahuman may be out of reach with price. That leaves either RingConn Gen 1 that is currently available, or RingConn Gen 2 which is in crowdfunding now and expected to ship starting in September/October. All three have some level of cycle tracking as well as fitness tracking, but other than walking, fitness tracking does have to be manually triggered. So, read up on pricing for Ultrahuman Air and RingConn features, and you should be closer to a decision. Feel free to ask any questions here. Hopefully some female members will be able to answer questions about the cycle tracking features.

While I agree with you on the fitness tracker comments, I disagree on the subscription fees. Oura is the only smart ring that charges a subscription fee...and they are losing marketshare because of it. AmazFit Helio Ring tried to charge a subscription fee for premium features of their app, but, after a few months, lowered the price of their ring AND now bundle the premium features for free. Ultrahuman has third-party add-ons called PowerPlugs. There are 12 of these niche add-ons and only two require a subscription. Cardio Adaptability, and Region-Limited AFib Detection. RingConn did say that they were considering subscription fees at one point before their Gen 2 started shipping, but later said they decided against it.

I typically am size 12 as that fits the most digits. For me, Oura Gen 2/Gen3 and RingConn Gen 1 size 12s are the same. But this may not be true for everyone with the slight differences in widths and in sensor bump placement. I would encourage you to get the sizing kit to be sure. I nearly made the mistake with Ultrahuman of assuming it would be the same size as Oura, but with Ultrahuman, I am size 11.

Any wearable tech won’t be fully accurate, whether it’s a watch or a ring. At the end, it all comes down to preference. I’ve been using my ring for fitness tracking and it works just fine. Just make sure to get a silicone protector if you weight lift. I’ve been comparing results with my friend’s apple watch and can tell you that it’s very similar. However, just like with any other devices, you should probably remove 30% from the calories burnt total to have a fair estimate. The point of these devices is to cumulate data into a trend so you can make the necessary adjustments to reach your goals. If this makes sense, then you should get the ring, but make sure to get a protection plan so you’re all set:) If you like the look of traditional watches, you should definitely look into Withings. They’re absolutely gorgeous! Don’t hesitate if you have any questions.

That’s right. I’m using my Apple Watch at the gym for strength training because I feel it’s closer to accuracy comparatively and it’s much safer not to have something interfere your full hand grip. For work (&sleep) I prefer wearing the UH ring and rocking a mechanical watch

By work I meant I generally wear it for constant tracking of all the various parameters at work. I use the ring instead of an Apple Watch to track my HR, steps and walking I do at the office. Not just that, I prefer a normal watch on the outfits I wear to the office. A ring would work out in your case if you ask me if none of the calling, message notifications matter to you. Forgetting to charge is also an issue in the ring. I just make it a point to top up the battery every time I go to a shower so that bit of battery at least gets me through that day and night.

I switched from Ultrahuman to Whoop. Ultrahuman is garbage btw, I ran through 3 rings in under a year. Also they lost the lawsuit to Oura so there might be support issues in the future in the US.

I've only had my ring for a week, but I've been using it for fitness tracking and the results are very similar to apple watch with pedometer++ app. I'm delighted so far. As to battery, I was having to charge my 3 year old apple watch twice a day. So compared to that, the battery is fine. I charge it at night, it uses about 10% overnight; I tracked a 1.5 hour walk followed by a 10 minute workout and a 30 minute "stretching" session and it's now on 54%. Good luck!

I think that the Ring can be made better (as there are many users who have complained that their units failed to work). Aside from quality control, I think the Ring should improve on the sensors so that the accuracy of the data improves. I use my ring with my Garmin, and I usually trust my Garmin's data more as it correlates to how I am feeling more often than not. Also battery life. UH has the best app, but it would be more useful if you had proper inputs and data points.

As someone who just returned mine, no. It was scratched up in two weeks and I even took it off for barbell and dumbbell work.

Have tried the Oura and Ultrahuman, but the RingConn was much better for me as it is invisible when worn. None of them are particularly accurate, however, and the tech is still in its infancy. The Fitbit Luxe is small on the other wrist, but is not perfect. Sadly an Apple Watch or Garmin are way better, but double writing is tricky.

I had been observing for a long time and once thought this was just a useless gadget. It wasn’t until I thoroughly researched the UH app that I decided to purchase it. I was concerned about buying something with significant functional overlap, which would feel like a waste of money. To summarize the result: it did not disappoint me. It is a competent 24/7 health monitoring device but definitely not a qualified sports tracking device. Of course, there are still a few oddities in the app. Overall, I would rate it around 85 to 90 out of 100. Since the ring has no screen, my primary evaluation criterion was the data available in the app. Both OURA and RingConn seemed very minimalist, so I worried they might give me a few numbers like Apple Health but not explain what they mean. Because of my work, I prefer to review a wealth of data to interpret results myself, and the fact that the UH app provides not only numbers but also recommendations is excellent. Usage Scenarios Currently, I am using three devices: Apple Watch Ultra (AWU), Coros Pace Pro, and UH Ring Air. The intended use for this combination is as follows: 1. AWU + UH Ring Air for daily work: I’m a software engineer, but I don’t like picking up my phone just to check frequent notifications. I prefer glancing quickly at my AWU to decide whether it’s worth picking up the phone. 2. Coros Pace Pro + UH Ring Air for after-work exercise: Initially, I used AWU to track my running activities, but in the second year, its battery life only supported daily use. So I bought the Pace Pro specifically for running. 3. UH Ring Air during morning and evening routines: I treat the UH Ring Air as a 24-hour body monitoring device that I wear throughout the day. One week of use since receiving it on July 8 Data Circadian Phase Alignment: This was a novel feature for me. After studying the terminology, I understood its true significance. While the UH app could include more explanations to help users, I didn’t have trouble finding information online. However, it often suggests I should not run after work—interesting! Stress Rhythm: Initially, I was looking for an “energy percentage” feature like Beve. The closest thing seems to be this metric, although I’m unsure if it should be interpreted that way. In my week of use, I found that if I train when the score is below 70 after work, I’m generally fatigued. When it’s above 75, I’m in a good state for interval training and similar workouts. Measurements: The HRV readings are slightly lower compared to AWU, but the trends are similar, as is the heart rate trend. Blood oxygen is only tracked during sleep and marked as “beta,” but its trend is broadly consistent with AWU as well. Sleep In the first few days of wearing the ring, I was surprised that the sleep tracking results almost exactly matched my AWU. Even after six nights, this consistency continued. It seems I can stop wearing the watch for sleep tracking. I deliberately disabled UH app’s permission to read sleep data from iOS Health, as I was unsure whether it might cross-reference AWU’s sleep and wake times. Regarding sleep debt, unlike other apps that typically advise seven and a half or eight and a half hours of sleep, UH app suggested six and a half hours after a week of observation, which matches my usual experience. For reference: my AWU is on my left wrist, and the UH Ring Air is on my left middle finger. Activity I do not use it to record any of my exercise sessions because there are better fitness tracking devices. However, starting from the second day of wearing it, it began prompting me during my commute, asking whether I was walking and whether I wanted to record it. That’s quite impressive—it seemed to learn this in just two days! I accepted these prompts to log simple activity records. However, the calorie count for activity is odd. On days I go for a jog, the calories burned are unusually high. Based on years of wearable device use, this doesn’t seem correct. For example: Static energy + dynamic energy = approx. 1,950 kcal A 10 km Zone 2 jog ≈ 700 kcal Total ≈ 2,650 kcal But the UH app always reports around 3,350 kcal—it’s clearly doubling the exercise calories. Deleting duplicate activities from the timeline didn’t help; the total remained 3,350. Initially, I allowed iOS Health permissions, linked my Coros platform, and enabled the ring’s automatic activity detection. This resulted in three duplicate activities in the timeline, with calorie counts doubled. Then I disconnected Coros permissions and disabled automatic detection, leaving only the auto-import from iOS Health—but calorie counts still doubled. My last resort will be to rely solely on auto-detection and see if the problem resolves. This issue matters to me: if I follow this inflated calorie estimate for food intake, I could easily regain the weight I lost 20 years ago. Caffeine Window This was one of the features I most wanted before purchasing. In the first three days of wearing the ring, when I wasn’t sleeping well, my caffeine intake window was very short, reflecting poor brain waste clearance and recommending an earlier caffeine cut-off. Over the weekend, after better sleep, the allowable caffeine window extended—it even told me I could consume caffeine until 4 PM. Clearly, the app is calculating dynamically rather than applying a fixed caffeine metabolism rate. Battery Battery life was a major concern before purchase. Fortunately, I haven’t encountered issues yet. The box indicates a manufacturing date of June 2025, and I started using it on July 8 at 19:03 with 100% charge. By July 12 at 17:07 it was at 26%—about 3 days and 22 hours. It seems that the battery could last about 5 to 5.5 days per charge, which is acceptable for now, though who knows if it might fail next week! Other There are some minor translation issues in the Traditional Chinese UI, such as translating “time to move” as “it’s time to move house,” which I found amusing. On the first day, I thought UH app was suggesting my home wasn’t comfortable! Regarding the “Vitamin D power plug,” since I’m also wearing AWU, it reads sunlight exposure and occasionally prompts me when it detects I’m outdoors. But this is just a reminder, without actionable insights. The smart alarm works well and hasn’t caused excessive battery drain. If it could trigger vibration through AWU, that would be even better. Edit: Interesting! On day 19, I encountered a Bluetooth connection issue. Customer service advised me to fully drain the battery to trigger a hardware reset, then recharge and reconnect the ring. Unfortunately, I had just fully charged it yesterday, so I’ll need to wait three to four days. However, it seems like the PPG is still functioning the green light is still flashing from time to time, as if it’s continuing to detect.

I bought mine mid October and I’m having battery issues with it a month and a week after receiving it. I’m very disappointed and I do not recommend this ring. I was enjoying the insight I was getting from the data, and I had no issues until the return and exchange period had passed. The battery was draining tremendously. The ring went from lasting about 4 days on average to dying in the middle of the night after I had just charged it. Along with that the amount of time it took to charge that ring was hours instead of about 90 minutes. I contacted customer support and they updated my firmware and told me to give it two charging cycles then it should be fixed. It didn’t fix the problem. They told me to perform a factory reset. The app froze when I tried to do a factory reset so I had to restart my phone and try again. I couldn’t tell if it went through after that so I contacted customer service and they said it did go through. They also told me to wait 2 charging cycles again. I tried but then my ring wouldn’t connect to my app. They told me to disconnect the ring, restart my phone, then try. I did all of that and I’m still having problems with the battery life. I do not recommend based on all of the battery issues I have had that just so happened to start once I was out of the replacement timeline.
