Ditto re the battery life. I have next to no set routines so for a space cadet it is bloody brilliant… I lost my charger for over a week and a half and it’s still cruising along - vs my Apple ultra, which drives me mental with how often it needs a lifeline.
If I had your goals, I'd almost certainly go in for the Whoop. It does a great job with sleep, HRV, and activity tracking if nothing else. I haven't heard about anything that compares with performance in those ways together with convenience. The 5.0 battery life is also a huge quality of life upgrade. It feels like I barely have to charge it, so it's just always there in the background and not bothering me. No more tamagotchi energy like the old ones.
My own personal data showed different for HR accuracy. Apple Watch Ultra 3, Pixel Watch 4, and even Garmin Forerunner 965 did very well compared to Polar H9 chest strap. The Amazfit Helio Strap was even closer. But, Whoop 4.0 and 5.0 devices are just "all over the place" for HR. I don't have an Oura to compare [https://imgur.com/a/C0eXjXl](https://imgur.com/a/C0eXjXl) These are all walking on a treadmill at 3.0 MPH to try to get an "easy" workout for the devices (so no running, no cycling, etc)
I came over from Apple Watch and love my 5.0, paid for 18 months but if I were you I’d just stay on Apple Watch. Feel like Apple Watches are only getting better and 3rd party watch apps like Bevel are a solid alternative ($50)/year. Whoop as much as I love it is overpriced for the long term value. Great for building strong habits and honestly love the no screen sometimes. That being said, I believe Apple will come out with a watch air model next year (slimmer/low profile) design similar to the iPhone Air this year. That’s when the momentum will really switch to Apple.
Also ein Rundumpaket.
Apple Watch samples less frequently during rest/inactive periods to save battery. During active workouts, it boosts sampling. But overall, WHOOP tends to have more consistent high-frequency sampling. If i aint wrong , WHOOP 5.0 captures heart rate ~26 times per second, which is pretty high resolution.
Hey ya’ll! Just wanted to post this as a thought post for those trying to decide whether or not to pull the trigger. The past year and a half of so I’ve been trying to figure out what device I like best when it comes to habit/wellness tracking. I’ve used the apple watch, whoop 4.0 and 5.0, the garmin forerunner 165 and the oura gen 4. While I had liked the apple watch for the longest time, I came to hate being constantly connected and having my wrist buzz all the time. The whoop was amazing for someone living a truly athletic life but as a general tracker, it was too in depth and almost felt like having an overbearing coach lingering on your wrist 24/7. The garmin was almost a repeat of the apple watch except I turned off all the smart notifications but still missed wearing a nice watch on a day to day basis. Myself and the Oura have had an on again off again relationship, this is the 4th time I’ve had it(returned the first three times). Ever since I returned the 3rd I realized how much I missed having such a discreet but good looking tracker that I also love the UI of. While it may not be the best “fitness tracker,” if you interpret your data correctly, it can help you take the habits you build and lock them in to be just that little bit healthier every time you make the connections. I’m hoping that even just this bit of rambling and getting thoughts out will help someone make the decision and make it that little bit easier.
The whoop was probably my least favorite between the nitty gritty data of the app, the constant notifs that it would send but also how bulky it feels compared to oura.
I use both - fitbit via a pixel watch 4 on my left hand and whoop 5.0 on the right (both gifts). Both do sleep accurately. Fitbit also records short afternoon naps or if I wake up at 7am, laze in bed on a Sunday for 45 mins and then again sleep and wake up at 9am. Whoop tracks only the main sleep, unless the next sleep is also 2-3 hours long. Both track activities fine. I think my Fitbit tracks better - example, if I'm in a class, where I do 15 mins rowing, and then 10 mins strength training exercises and then 20 mins rowing. Whoop is hit and miss on tracking rowing twice. Fitbit tracks short walks when I'm commuting from home to office. Whoop doesn't unless I am exporting from Fitbit to Google health center and then importing to whoop. That said whoops recovery score feels better than fitbit's readiness.
