After months of testing and watching youtube reviews I went for Beyerdynamic MMX150. Really good mic and decent sound quality, very comfortable, too, for long gaming sessions.
Beyer Dynamic enjoyer. I truly believe no brand offers better bang for buck. MMX 150 is a great headset, great sound profile and clarity with top notch mic clarity, if your ears aren't too big. They can be a bit warm on warm days, I otherwise never had an issue. Changed to 990s recently with a desk mic. Honestly finding them less comfortable at times, the sound is as good I expected but with that more open sound stage thanks to the open back design. Also, I'm personally less loud and shouty. The 990 pros have more clamping force and I wonder if they would have been a better choice.
IMO the best way to experience spatial sound in games is not some 7.1 or surround BS, but rather headphones with proper sound staging (read audiophile headphones). Even entry level audiophile headphones are way better at spatial sound than any 7.1 surround sound headsets. I'm currently using the Meze 99 Neo with the boom mic wire. Amazing quality for both the headphones and the mic. I hear more things than I've ever heard with my "surround sound" Corsair VOID. I also have the wired version of https://europe.beyerdynamic.com/p/mmx-150-wireless which is a really good headset, nearly audiophile quality and the Mic is also amazing. The sound is slightly worse than my 99 Neos, but they're still nearly studio quality good.
Getting something in the audiophile approved space is an option but they usually lack features you’re going to want without figuring it out yourself ie driving them, proper sound signature, mic etc. I would recommend you look at something like steelseries Arctis pros. They aren’t going to sound amazing for music . But to be honest, I don’t know how realistic it is to find immersive headphones for gaming that make music sound great. It’s very subjective and most audiophiles in this sub have several separate pairs for listening to ranges of music. I would recommend any you look at you should listen to the microphone as that’s typically where you run into cheaping out. Arctis pros, mmx Beyerdynamic’s or even the new astros are going to sound good for what you’re looking for. They are also easy to resell or return if you don’t like them since you can get them from amazon. If you want ones for music you are going to need to buy a separate pair and find what sound signature you enjoy. I have tried dt770s which get recommended a lot but you’ll need a separate mic and even running them without an amp is iffy. Maxwells get recommended as well but they are heavy and may be uncomfortable and I don’t think the mic is very good. It’s important to note you can always adjust eq with things like sonar where people have pre made eq for the kinds of games you like. From my personal experience, Astros, Arctis pros are probably the only gaming headsets I would pay anywhere near 300 for but if you don’t mind the heft you can get the maxwells. If you want an IEM you’ll want something like zero reds or blues I prefer reds, but you won’t have a mic and most mic cables are kinda ass so your better off running a dedicated desk mounted microphone.
I was searching the perfect 3D solution, too and i tryed it all. I end up with Gustard x18, Aune S17 Pro Evo and Hifiman Ananda Nano, optional with Dolby Atmos for headphone but you don´t need to waste so much money. Soundblaster x4 in is currently the best in gaming for 3D audio, Special with the Scoutmode. Sennheiser GSX 1000 2nd Edition driverless very very good. Both setup cheap and good with Beyerdynamics MMX Series Hifiman Ananda Nano was the best i hear for 3D Audio and take a cheap 2nd Hand ADI-2 DAC its the perfect precision on games, i doubt there is a better solution for this price.
