I just received mine and this is something else compared to the SE and the XT

For me they feel fine I haven't noticed if either side is louder than the other or that it feels looser. I know I had to tinker with dolby abit. I know the icue app has a personalized sound setting not sure if that might help in your case

I originally had a st of virtuoso xt rgb had them for nearly 2 years before they developed a fault. Which were replaced via warranty virtuoso max silver. Personal I consider virtuoso a massive improvement in comfort over the xt the headband is a bit bigger and the ear cups despite still being round are slightly bigger and it makes a big difference. The clamping force has been increased, so headset dosent slip, & i dosent feel uncomfortable. The Bluetooth sound has been massive improvement with anc working nice haven't been able to. Try wifi as my pc is down. So far very pleased. It's a bit bigger but headset is better for it

eq does seem to be working on ps5. press the "custom" button to cycle through the 4 built-in eq presets, it plays 1, 2, 3, or 4 beeps to indicate

Hey! The mic quality itself is not terrible, however, side tone was definitely not performing well for a headset in this price range. Perhaps it can be a firmware issue? In my opinion side tone for a closed back headset is essential, so it was unfortunate that it was a painful experience. I can definitely see Corsair improving this headset in later versions as time goes on!

Audio preference, comfort, is all subjective. I would recommend buying them and trying them out! If you don’t like them, return them until you find your pair. Best Buy makes this really easy to do. Plus, if you end up not liking them and returning them after a day or two of usage, you just did someone a favor and made them open-box mint-condition headphones that they can get for slightly cheaper 😅. The same thing happened to me! I bought the XTs a few days ago in-store. I just ordered the max. How are you feeling about the weight distribution and comfort? I’m not a big fan of heavy headsets. So I’m hoping this won’t be a deal breaker for me. Also, did they improve the sidetone at all? The XTs’ sidetone is so subtle; once you increase the volume, the sidetone is nonexistent. Also, if the headset has noise cancellation, does that mean it also has noise transparency? Super intrigued to see how these are performing for you.

Dude you’re so awesome! I appreciate your response. Are you sure you’re not a salesman for this pair, cause I’m SOLD, LOL! I have to agree, the XT’s were a bit underwhelming; a lack in features, and a hefty price tag that is a bit hard to justify. These seem like they are worth every buck. I was confused as to why the XT’s didn’t have a power button, glad that they added one. Hope you don’t mind, but I was just curious- how are you feeling about the quality of the ANC and transparency? I have a wonderful experience with the AirPod max’s ANC/transparency, and a very poor experience with the Arctis Nova Pro. I understand that headset is feature rich, but they definitely sacrificed quality to just say they have those features on paper. Hopefully that’s not the case!

Got the black pair, though I got a question for you. Does it feel like the left dial is louder and looser than the right one for you?

I don't mean as in audio, but more the dial itself sounding different. The left dial sounds a lot more clicky and has a bit more of a wiggle. Trying to see if I got a scuffed one or if the mechanic is different between the two sides :/

I have an Arctis Nova Pro and I'm currently looking to replace it. The DAC knob died **right** out of warranty and only works in one direction, and now, periodically the headset cuts out and just emits a super loud buzzing/white noise until I turn it off and on again. For a $350 headset to last less than 2 years is ridiculous, IMO. Currently testing out a Corsair Virtuoso Max, but idk if I'm gonna stick with it. The audio is fine, but damn is it uncomfortable (at least out of the box.) Was thinking of trying the Kraken 4 pro, but looks like this one isn't great either.

Well written review! I agree on everything you said here. Hopefully a firmware update can fix the transparency and the sidetone quality. Now we just waiting for them 3rd party ear cushions for better comfort. I know with the corsair virtuoso XT models, they come with 2 different capsule sizes for the microphone. Makes me wonder if they will have a larger mic capsule in the future.

I haven't noticed any disconnection issues over the course of 4 hours yesterday. I know the range is way better than the XT model but I can't say I've had interference issues so either of them. Could be your location that has a lot of 2.4GHz traffic overlap.

Bass is great. Dongle is usb A. There is also a usb-a to usb-c cable for charging the headset. There is no USB audio mode. The removable microphone switched from a micro-usb connector to a usb-c connector. The ones that come with the headset are a bit thin on the cushion. Wicked cushions would definitely help in this regard! 😁 Some other users do not like the material and some do.

I tried this on PC as I only have a nintendo switch as a console. These weigh in at 428 grams which is less than the audeze maxwell headset at 490 grams. I use it with the icue software, but haven't tried without software. Weight distribution appears to be pretty well balanced.

I believe its a feature. The sidetone is a little bit louder but muffled compared to the Corsair XT's sidetone. I also have a folder with microphone tests of different headsets including this new one. I hope in the near future that a firmware update or driver update can help improve the sidetone clarity. Also can't use sidetone with transparency or noise canceling mode enabled. It seals pretty well. With noise cancellation off, its pretty quiet. With it "on" the ambience of your natural surroundings is even more quiet. I was surprised when I put these headphones on, that I didn't get "Omg this is heavy" feeling. I think the clamping force is what's forgiving compared to some other headsets. I do not hear my blood or heartbeat with these on lol.

Weight distribution appears to be good. The shape of the ear cups is large and will fit larger ears, but there is only quarter 0.25 inch of cushion for the earcups but 1inch of depth. On the scale these headphones with the microphone weigh in at 428 grams and the audeze maxwell is 490 grams in comparison. Also i just discovered you just have to twist the ear cups and pull outward to remove them. Very easy to swap with compatible ear pads! If you buy them at bestbuy you can just refund the difference for them or price match if they are cheaper within the return period. (which could be 60 days if you have bestbuy+)

In regards to comfort, they are still a little on the heavy side but the earcups are at least 2x thicker I would say. So much more comfortable. They also have ANC off, on and transparency. I am not sure about the sidetone because I hardly ever use the mic. They dials are the whole metal dial on the sides now. And the great news too is they finally have a real power switch. Additionally, the battery is 60+ hours and it actually feels that way. I played games for a few hours earlier and the battery went down 3% total. There is also a new button on the side that has a custom assignment option. When I got the Virtuoso XT's I was immediately disappointed and felt like they were not worth the 200+. In contrast, I instantly turned these on and was shocked at what I was missing so much that I thought my XT's might have been broken lol.

The anc is good but not as solid as my Sony xm4’s in terms of over ear. But the sound quality makes up for it of the virtuoso Max’s. I have a bathroom with a heater that I leave on sometimes and I can’t hear the humming with my Sony’s. But when there’s no audio playing through the v max I can hear it slightly. I also wear glasses so maybe it just hasn’t formed a seal yet to be broken in on the memory foam. You are crazy if you think the audio quality is a 9/10. They sound so bad. The tuning is terrible. Very low detail sound. Buy some Artti T10 or Truthear Zero Red for $50-60 and compare the sound to the Virtuoso Max. Either one will sound significantly clearer and more resolving. ANC is quite weak too. Though it does indeed not affect the sound or soundfloor much, which is good. I think the Play/Pause button is so annoying to press. Too wobbly. Rest is fine about the headset. Except for the price. Really not worth 300+, not even half that imo.

No, they are not good for fps. You can't hear enemies well with this headset. Everything gets drowned and masked in overdone bass. Tbh I don't have any recommendation for a gaming headset. I tried a few (e.g. also from Razer and Logitech), but none of them are worth buying. If you can afford a headset like this, you should really buy good headphones and a separate microphone. Especially if you are okay with wired. You can find $50 IEMs that will absolutely destroy the VIrtuoso Max in sound quality and detail.

Yes, the Virtousos will do CoD and FPS good enough. I bought these for fun. Never owned one of these before. They are comfortable, but only barely actually fit on my head. I don't know what my head size is, but I am surprised thoroughly that these even fit my rather small head. So try before you buy. The microphone is like a 6-7/10 it will get you some better value then the Turtle beach stealth pros or even the old A50's in a microphone for sure. It is very adjustable, but it hangs at the bottom of the headset, but isn't an issue when you want to eat a big piece of pizza and brush the mic away. This is a particular problem I have with the Razer Blacksharks, which have a mic at the same angle but far less flexibility. If you have to get the Virtouso pros, they do have the carrying case and link with ICUE software very well. The bluetooth is fine. The range is long. They do sound good, they are warm, and do heavy metal guitar distortion fine. I use DTS: Headphone X to kind of equalize the sound, I probably don't need to its a flavor thing. Their ear pads likely reduce bass performance, but the bass is there and not OVERLY powerful. Yes a pad swap might help later on in its life. However, some drivers really are tuned for whatever pads they came with. Headsets like the Stealth Pros really heavily rely on the leather pads they come with for you to pick out distinct audio details. I like leather, the clamping force of those headsets make it hard for 12+ hour gaming sessions though. Shouldn't have a problem with 12+ hours with these Virtousos. These ear pads help give it a slightly hollow tone, in conjunction with the drivers. Until I experience a pad swap IDK. The drivers do not get too loud, I can't just max them out and listen to them like desktop speakers like headsets such as the A50's or Turtle Beaches or even my old Senheiser HD 555's. In order to Equalize (EQ) this headset, you HAVE to disable any windows spatial/DTS/Dolby Atmos in order to use Icue to tune them. However, there are other after market EQ apps out there (I dont use them, yet, probably wont, most stock settings are pretty decent) This headset responds A LOT to eq with the ICue software, and it modifies the sound a lot more then some of the other headsets. Go easy on them sliders, probably look up Gadgetry Tech for an EQ. Its preference. Apparently there was an update to fix the ANC, so I updated these, and the ANC works and it doesn't seem to modify the sound quality like people were saying previously. I don't usually use microphone sidetone so Ill have to test it out. Yes, they come with RGB which I actually found helpfull at night when you set them down and forget where they are lol. The build quality does feel premium. The internal batter these have does last a long time. However, batteries have FINITE amounts of long term life, so if you fall in love with these keep in mind later on in life, you will be plugged in regardless. Headsets like the Stealth Pros/Artic Nova pros completely negate this downside with swappable batteries. Stealth pros are not 'hot swappable' because the headset shuts down Nova pros are, because the headset still has some power capacity to stay on during swap. If you wear glasses, this one of the most odd headsets to wear glasses with because the pads are SOLID underneath the fabric material. It breaks whatever seal it barely makes anyways. But its gonna push those glasses hard unless they have really thin frames. Its a good headset Ill go to when I need a break and my ears hurt from the buds I got and the Stealth Pros vice clamp force exceeds my capability of pain.

They are fine for call of duty Black Ops 6. They do good in BF2042. Do you know if you like warm sounding headphones? These are warmer with a decent audio range. Not too harsh. Warm and crisp. Crunchy. Plays metal music as if its coming out of my Fender amp next to me. Its got the felt that really filters the sound that way. The bass is there, not too overly powerful which is nice, however in Battlefield I can only say you pretty much always want to EQ out the bass. Even my worst performing bass headset (razer blackshark v2 pros) get wrecked on the bass in that game. But the footsteps need some of it. So EQ accordingly. (Steel series sonar has a good place to start with the eq, among other videos) 2042 molests your ears with Bass. For the game Bodycam, these would likely excel in because they are a felt/fabric headset and Bodycam is extremely loud and harsh, something these materials will help sound escape and not completely destroy your ears with gunshots but still retain some situational awareness like the Stealth Pros will. Stealth pros really do pick up on detail as an example. Sound chamber, leather to keep the sound in. Intermediate squishy detailed sound. I can't imagine Rainbow 6 siege to be much different, but I would have to try it. I would base it off my CoD xperience with the headsets, considering like with MW3 they have extremely low blended footsteps. Yes, MW3 footsteps are also somewhat selective. you wont hear enemies not moving of course, but walking/crouch walking slower paces really wont stand out on much. But for what the Virtousos Max have, you wont be nearly at a disadvantage as with a lot of other headsets I feel.

Im a corsair guy for sure. I own the XT RGB with wicked cush and have mained them for a couple years. Haha not like i had another pair or anything. Anyway i just picked up the Virtouso Max on 1/25. Updated firmware and im fairy Tech savy. Amazing sound over the XTs once i played around with dobly and sound ID. Truely fantastic. I have a big head and I do notice clamping force on my head but it fits will. ANC is crazy. I didnt think i would need it but damn its goodtransparancy mode is good not amazing. I have zero sleep to wake volume issues Side tone works barely <---- frankly worthless also trans mode is not a work aroundMic is good just like XT

I had a chance to use my headset with my friends last night. I initially had to lower my sensitivity in icue. After about 5 mins of how this questions to my friends they seem to prefer the new mic. Hope this helps.

I have gone through all the premium/best-reviewed ones and the Corsair Virtuoso is the best overall in my experience. I didn't like the weird headband on the Steel Series Arctic line. For me it was not comfortable at all. I had a previous version of the Arctis with the little dock and hot-swap batteries, and I LOVED that battery switch feature.

I tried so many headphones and headsets it's crazy. The Maxwell is fine but really heavy and meh mic Rog Delta 2 has a good mic now and easy to EQ, but too expensive for what it is Razer is just average at best for most of them. Astro is great, but f the dock. JBL Quantum series sound is very average. Great bass Corsair Virtuoso Max audio quality is insanely below others at the same price point. Alienware Pro is 100$ too expensive, ears gets hot unde an hour and mine lasted 4 days. I heard good things about the Atlas Air.

HS80 Max’s were my go to until I was given the virtuoso max at an extreme discounted rate, all of my peripherals are corsair

I just got these yesterday and I love them. Except... The pads. After 30 minutes of gaming, my ears are burning. Ok, I thought I'll just buy some thicker pads with gel cooling. Nope. Corsair using a proprietary pad mounting system with no pad replacement is a deal breaker. I know these are newer but the Virtuoso pro's use the same system I think. There is no pad replacement for them still, so these are going back to Best Buy.

Noooo! I absolutely understand from a business perspective, but I'm also sad because I specifically bought the headset with the mindset of definitely replacing the earcups and headband with yours because the features are what I need. and I only heard good things about your work. I bought the headset in early January and it's honestly not that uncomfortable as I expected but the headband is objectively, actually bad. I'd still buy earcups for several reasons even though I like the originals. I've been refreshing your site and also following your comments to see when they pop up. Do you know if the non-Max Virtuoso WC headbands work with the Max because they doesn't seem too different?

Ive had the max for 2 weeks now. They sound great, build and noise canceling are awesome as well. They hurt the top of my head after about 30-40 minutes and no chatmix is crazy. I feel they could easily update through the IQ software to replace the Bluetooth wheel with chat mix but we'll see.

I love my hs80 max. I was turned off by wireless years ago . But these made me change my tune

+1 for the Virtuoso. It's a solid headset, great mic and has the benefit of using both wired and wireless channels simultaneously.

I’m very happy with my Corsair virtuoso. Solid build, good sound. I have younger kids who use and abuse it and it’s still trucking. Only thing I didn’t like is the headband and cups. The spray leather deteriorated, so I opted for valour fabric instead, very comfy

I'm replacing my virtuouso with the nova. The v's cups are too small for my ears and the headband fatigues my skull, they are super heavy aswell. I did like the build quality and the detachable mic though. Battery has been dieing much quicker after a year but that could be my fault.

I use the hyper x cloud 2 and Corsair virtuoso, both work great and I never get complaints about background noise..and there is quite a bit of it here

iCue constantly explodes, requiring a reinstall to fix, and the settings you put on the headset REQUIRE iCue to reapply every time the headset connects. I have the Virtuoso, and I HATE the green "not muted" light, and I hate the lack of control over which voice prompts they use. The cups degraded to shreds in under 2 years, the plastic holding one cup broke from an accidental drop onto the desk. The volume wheel has a mind of its own, can adjust system volume randomly, and may or may not skyrocket to 0 or 100% on its own. Needless to say, I have regrets, hence why I'm on this forum looking for alternatives

I should clarify, \*SOME\* options revert to factory. There are two ways for me to turn off the logo lighting, turning the color to black, and setting the brightness to zero. If I set it to black, it will restore its color when not running iCue, if I set brightness to zero, it holds that setting. The same cannot be said of the "enable green light while active" setting. There is seemingly no way to turn that green light off without having iCue running.

I was told to go back to Corsair Virtuoso headset because Maxwell mic sucked so bad. I disagree. And if I have to spend MORE money on a pricey headset to make it work well, then it has shit value

These are great, but with the right EQ settings, the Corsair Virtuoso easily outclasses them. Of course, that comes at a steep premium.

The mic quality on the virtuoso is on a whole other level compared to other headsets in the same price range, goes from muddy to crisp and crystal clear with the virtuoso I will say my only complaint at the beginning was the comfort, it felt a bit too tight on my head but maybe that's just me

i use the corsair virtuoso and connect it to DOLBY ACCESS for terrific in game audio queues. not joking when i turn on the game mode i can hear footsteps so far away and so accurately that i can still be useful when im dead because of my comms.

Honestly stuff now has pretty decent mic quality. Unless you plan to get into content creation, a dedicated mic really doesn't matter much. Stuff from Corsair for example have really good quality mics, the Virtuoso and I think the HD80 of whatever they call it, have perfectly good mics. Is a dedicated mic better? Yeah I have one with DT770s but no one will hear the difference on discord or in games.

I personally think HS80's are garbage. The sound is horrible, sounds all muddy and shit the only decent thing is the mic it's also very uncomfortable. Got a studio headphones after discovering how garbage they are, couldn't be more happy after that. If you're not sensitive to sound quality, sure go ahead get them. But if you're sensitive to sound quality like me you're gonna hate them. 2/10 headset at best. Probably gonna get downvoted, but just saying the truth.

Gaming headsets uniformally have terrible ergonomics. If you must have something that's wireless with anc and don't care much about sound quality, I'd look into the JBL quantum line. They fit my large head/ears better than most others I've tried (arctis line, corsair void/virtuoso, hyperx cloud)
