Thank you for putting me onto the H3X, I'd been looking for a long time for something to replace my Omen Mindframe Prime, and I'd missed every HD 560 deal. Looking forward to trying these out, bought two.
My usual recommendation, the Sennheiser PC38x aren’t on sale currently but a good budget alternative is the Drop + EPOS H3X. https://drop.com/buy/drop-epos-h3x-gaming-headset?utm_source=linkshare Otherwise, I also heavily recommend the SHP9500 with a standalone mic like the V-Moda boompro. https://a.co/d/4rfCj3j https://a.co/d/fqkO2do
The PC38x would be the better product, and I’ve seen them go for $150 or sometimes lower. TBH though for the price difference I’d just opt for the EPOS. $20 and you’re going to have a hard time finding anything better for $100 or less.
Drop+ Epos H3X is the best deal in headsets right now. If you are willing to spend more money the Razer Blacksharks and PC38X have quality microphones too, but not enough to justify the price difference.
For budget they recommend in ears and a separate mic to get better quality for far less. And to be fair, you almost always do. But from a gamer perspective, not an audiophile perspective, headsets are way more convenient. Plus, I think you can get good gaming headsets these days, you just have to be selective. HyperX Cloud IIs and now IIIs were some of the first to be decent. But Epos (which used to be Seinheisser) has some great options (like the H3x for $20 or the Open back H6pro for $80)
Epos+Drop is the best for wired. (H3x, H6pros) Otherwise Cloud III's or Turtle beach Atlas Airs for wireless.
I am going to throw in the drop+epos h3x. (Buy from their website for the lowest price) Just an insanely good deal on a headset. Probably as good as the ones mentioned by the other redditor, but for lower the an even the low end of your budget.
One of the most recommended options by audiophiles. If it wasn't for the single greatest deal I have ever seen in headsets going on right now with the Drop+Epos H3X, this would be my top recommendation for closed backs under $160
H3X is better, though not by much. H3X has slightly better sound and higher quality accessories (like the included cables)
Noticeably better. These are made by a sound company first and foremost, not a gaming company, and it shows in the sound quality.
Something to note. They are a more natural sounding headset then the Cloud IIs and more accurately reproduce sound. This does mean they have less bass emphasis, and this does mean they sound different, if you like the bass, this can be a bad thing.
Epos H3X, on sale for $39 on Drop. Way better than that price suggests. Basically an entry level Sennheiser headphone.
I just bought the 560's and found out today that there's a boom mic for it. I'm not sure how good the quality is though. I also just picked up the Drop + Epos h3x as backup. Too good to pass up lol. Those Cloud 3s came with a tuned DAC as part of the USB cable. These Epos cans do not.
The EPOS H3X is on sale for 20 bucks on drop.com right now. ANC is a rare find on desktop headphones, so closed back sets are probably as good as you are going to get, which they are. And while it doesn't have a dedicated "surround sound" feature, it has plenty of soundstage and positioning to give you solid 3D audio. Most surround sound gimmicks headsets are software based anyways, so you could always enable windows sonic or similar software if you really want to give surround sound a try.
I got a pair of these and i can't get my computer to recognize it....
I get that! After reading this, I went ahead and picked up the Drop + Epos h3x for $20 just in case I have the same issues. It's hard not to for that price!
