The only game where that 7.1 sound mode was useful is Arma 3 for me. Literally the only game where that gave a good advantage for some reason on Cloud 2

HyperX Cloud II so high? Really? Overall it just felt, flimsy and poorly built. The ear covers (leather ones) wore out insanely quick, beginning to peel off and leave black shit in my hair. After that, the headband covering material began to get sticky and crumbly after like a year of usage. Also the microphone pop cover also began to crumble. And this was before the model became revised and even more cheap. I would never put it so high. Perhaps the competition is just, even worse. I've only owned 2 other headsets after all, both better though.

Yeah it was fine while it lasted. Sound and comfort was fine. It just unfortunately didn't function very long. I also paid like €80 for it, which I wouldn't consider cheap. Could be down to where I live, but it was also 2017, maybe it's cheaper now. >I'm not sure how long higher-price headphones / headsets will last, though. Most gaming headphones are just cheap headphones sold at a higher price due to rgb or branding. Even cheap studio headphones would be far better. The old HyperX products like Cloud 2 and Alpha are based on studio headphones so they're not bad. Their new stuff is awful, though. And Razer in particular has the most overpriced headphones I've ever seen. SHP9500 would be far better than all of these and probably cheaper, too

Logitech pays a lot for marketing. I find that hard to believe since Cloud 2 are literally a pair of studio headphones - Takstar Pro 80, to be precise, just with a worse tuning and a mic.

Hyper X Cloud II is one of the goats for value. Audio and Mic quality are solid, and fits large heads well. The cloth on the ear cups don't break down quickly. All this said, looking for durability as a primary desire under $50 is always going to be tough because you get what you pay for. You can buy $50 shoes once a year, or you can buy $200 shoes once for 5 years.

There's a reason it's still in production and you can still buy them brand spankin new. Good build quality, good wired connection (wireless can be very low quality at this price range), good mic, good audio. These things still ring true.

I've had 2 sets over the last 9 years because the outer rubber finish, the ear pads and the headband pad end up deteriorating beyond repair. While the ear pads I can forgive and replace after 4 years of constant use, the outer rubber finish which gets disgustingly sticky and the headband padding which doesn't account for ease of replaceability, made me switch to other headphones as much as I like the Cloud II's sound. Right now I'm using the ATH-M50X's but because they rely heavily on headband pressure to handle their weight they're incredibly uncomfortable for me to wear and I'll have to take the loss and sell them second hand. Anyone got suggestions for a replacement?

They are the ones that almost look like pilot headset actually. There’s a cloud 2 abd 3 already as well though both will do just as well for you honestly. The mic is also solid. Hard to beat the value on the first one if you are looking in a budget. Otherwise I’d recommended the newer one, or even the cloud 2. It has adapters that work nicely for both pc and console and has a surround sound control on pc via usb https://a.co/d/agrcwgC

I had them for a long while, but for me the rubber on the ear cups started peeling and it was a horrible mess. The cloud 3 is honestly mostly the same, use them currently.

For budget find, I'd recommend the HyperX Cloud II. They have virtual 7.1 surround sound which makes the soundstage pretty good for pinpointing footsteps. Heck they're currently top on [this site](https://redditrecs.com/?category=Gaming+headset&subm_id=1fpdx4f) that pulls recommendations from Reddit threads so you can be sure they're battle tested.

If you wanna save some money HyperX Cloud II is pretty much the best bang for buck. Its the top gaming headset when sorted according to aggregated comments on reddit ([see analysis and comments](https://redditrecs.com/?category=gaming+headset)) so its pretty much battle-tested. If you wanna spend a bit more the [HyperX Cloud Aplha](https://redditrecs.com/?category=gaming+headset&product_id=3176) is still good value and is around $150

I’ve been using the HyperX Cloud II wired headset for a while now and have been really happy with the sound quality, especially for FPS games like Warzone. I’m considering upgrading to the HyperX Cloud III wireless for the convenience of going wireless, but I’m curious about how the sound compares. If I’m already content with the audio on the Cloud II, do you think I’ll enjoy the Cloud III as much or more? I had the wired version of the HyperX Cloud 2's and they were awesome. I now have the wireless version and they are equally as awesome. I'm no audiophile, but these just work and they sound great imo. Won't break the bank either.

I have a wired Cloud II and the quality is absolutely fine. Problem is that the default profile is really bad and I had to use Equalizer APO to set up something that works for me. I don't really think 90% of people would consider the result insufficient.

Definitely the hyperX cloud II. $75 atm. Good mic, 3D hearing, good sound quality, and overall just a good headset.

HyperX Cloud 2 I've had them since 2020 used a LOT 🤣 with 3 different styles of glasses and very rarely notice I'm wearing anything at all because they don't press the glasses into my head and they're quite lightweight in comparison to most They are wired and don't have the most incredible sound quality but for the price I like them. im having alot of problems with the hyperx cloud 2 wired. mic is low and cant adjust the volume(db stuck at 0) and the firmware updater is a nightmare. avoid until they can fix

I have both, the difference is drastic imo. Cloud 3 crushes 2 for competitive fps, although i personally wouldn’t get the wireless version due to latency and interference issues.

I have hyperx cloud 2 for like 8 years if not longer. The only thing that happened to them until now is the fake leather coating peeled off (where it touched my head on top) and that's it. It also happened at the start of this year so pretty solid nonetheless.

I have the ath-m50x currently. My previous headphones were hyperx cloud II and the logitech g933 wireless headset. The sound quality while gaming, at least in my opinion, is so much more robust and clear compared to my previous headphones. Edit: meant hyperx cloud II not cloud alpha 2 (I wrote this at 1am)

Every headset I’ve ever owned has broken down on me except for my HyperX Cloud II’s. I handed them down to my girlfriend and they’re still going strong several years later. They probably don’t sell them anymore, but I’m sure there’s an updated version by now.

Had my HyperX Cloud 2's for about a year and a half and they have been awesome and comfortable but are falling apart. Crappy plastic pieces, the volume control doodad halfway down the cord is made of trash quality plastic. Whole thing feels low quality but the headphones are soft and the audio is good. I like the braided rope cable, can withstand cats.

I bought the hyper x cloud 2 some years ago because a friend recommended me. Mic was super quiet, tried everything, even contacted the support. The headset was super heavy and I dislike noise canceling, I like to be able to hear whats going on in the house. So I turned it back in and bought a sennheiser game one and have had it since then. Its the best headset for me so far. Can wear it 24/7, sound is great, mic is good, never had any problems with it, no leather or fake leather, ear pads can be swapped. 10/10.

I tried a few headset last month (PC gaming) SteelSeries Nova 7P, Audiotechnica M50X, Benedynamic DT880 Pro, and HyperX cloud 2. These are my opinion as day-to-day game and music enjoyer. Not an audiophile. I’m using EQ with Steel series GG - Sonar. Nova 7 and hyperX are wireless and closed back. M50X (closed back) and DT 880 pro (semi-open-back) are wired. I settled down for HyperX cloud 2 (upgraded with wicked cushion) for wireless and DT 880 pro for wired with DAC. Nova 7 is awesome, but it falls short on 2 pain points - too small for my head and plastic hinges. I fear I’ll break it in months from my daily usage/abuse. Otherwise they are terrific. M50X is also good with crystal clear sounds… but I prefer open back of the DT880 Pro more. DT880 Pro also has bigger ear cushion, more comfortable long gaming session. Purely personal preference. HyperX cloud 2 works wonders for me. Good sound and bass. Even better when used with EQ. When compared to Nova 7, it has better omph bass in wireless mode (nova 7 is a beast when plugged in). DT 880 pro is my spare for when the hyperX ran out of battery or when I need a better sound for movie immersive-ness. It just works. As your partner wanting wireless, give HyperX and SteelSeries a try. They are both closed back with good reviews. YMMW. These are under $150. If you can spend $200+ then there are other tier of headset that’s outside of my budget range.

I disagree with Number 1. I had that headset (from a reddit recommendation) and the earcup joint broke after 3-4 months. Just very expensive cheap plastic build. Sound qualitiy was great, but just like almost all other plastic headsets, can not handle continious taking off and on your head. I had a replacement (took 1 month) and that replacement suffered the same fate after 6 months. I went back to HyperX Cloud II which surved me well and still surves me well.

I love my Hyper X Cloud II's. Best headphones ive ever owned. They are pretty cheap on the regular and can sometimes find them for $50. I'd recommend those over a ton of other options I've tried.

I use Hyperx cloud 2 and i like them myself can hear footsteps clearly in any game and aren’t that expensive either.

Hyperx headsets have been really great for me. The wireless Alpha, Cloud 2, Cloud 3, and Cloud Flight are all really great sounding and comfortable headsets. Haven’t had issues with the mic.

Yeah, I've forgotten most of these models since I bought my headset years ago but the hyper cloud II is so high up because it's such a good headset for next to no money. My headset, the sennheisers, are significantly better but also cost an extra $150 ish minimum

Friend has the Artics. They’re horrible, don’t buy them. He is constantly having issues and his mic sounds worse than my other friends HyperX’s which are a fraction of the cost. Are they not using a DAC/AMP combo for this list? I owned the Cloud II’s which at the time were decent considering the price but I’ve since upgraded to the DT 990s and would never go back. How can anyone thats tried both put HyperX above Beyerdynamics?

yea theres a difference between cloud 2 and 3. ive tried 3 and it just didnt feel right, it felt more tense and less agile, worse bass aswell, which to me is a big part. so ive had cloud 2’s for a while now, bought 4+ pairs over the years and will continue to do so. they’re hands down the best budget headset ive ever had

I'm using a hyperx cloud 2 for years. But rather recently I bought a sound card from sound Blaster (I think sound Blaster G1) and did some Equalizer tweaking. Now everything's the same volume. Shots, cars, footsteps. You do not miss anything and your ears don't explode. The sound card was like 30€

I think my head is average-sized (lol) and I also wear pretty thick glasses, but my HyperX Cloud II headset has never caused head pain and fits comfortably. The cushioning on them is pretty good!

You read negative comments here because sound is the most important factor here (+ comfort). And if you compare any gaming headset to some “proper non-gaming” headphones, the difference in sound is night and day. I ditched all my gaming headsets (the cleanest sound was on my HyperX Cluod 2 wired & the Audeze Penrose) and use the Beyerdynamic dt770pro, Sennheiser hd560s, Crinacle Zero Blue and Moondrop Chu II (the last two are iems). All wired and without a mic, but man is the sound nice.

Np, mate. I have the HyperX Cloud II so I can only compare the 560 to them. The Cloud II are more comfortable to me, but the difference in clamp force is kinda minimal, not uncomfortable at all, at least to me. I’d say just go for the hd560, you’ll never look back.

After years of disappointment and breakdowns from steel series, JBLs, turtle beach, Logitech, I got a pair of hyperx cloud II as a gift and have never bought a different brand since. The sound, comfort and build quality is top notch, and the battery life on my newest cloud alphas is amazing. I'm not shit out of luck if I forget to charge them for a day.

I second this. I'm no audiophile but music sounds good on them as well, and the mic quality is pretty good.

Hey man, I know this is an old post but I literally can’t find anyone else that has talked about using the Cloud 2’s with the PS5. I just got mine and they sound pretty horrendous. Best thing I can think of to describe is that it sounds like the sound is being filtered through a tin can. No bass and the highs pierce my eardrums, regardless if I use the USB or just straight up connect the jack into my controller. Did you experience this? Did you do any set up / make audio adjustments, or did you just straight up connect with the 3.5mm jack to the PS5 controller. I just dropped $80 on these and am so disappointed.

Been using the foam from day 1 because I get hot ears. Still can't play for long even with the foam but its much better than the fake leather

Bro I felt that too. They sound like very high but trashy at the same time. I used them on ps4 and they are perfect there. I made the upgrade to ps5 and they are a mess. On Apex Legends I can't play like normally because of this. It's like a chaotic sound coming from everywhere. :(

I bought the Cloud 2 back in like 2016. I wasn't expecting them to last this long. When they go it's going to be a sad day.

My rubber/fake leather started to peel, and I just peeled the rest of it off and just use the foam cushion. It honestly helped keeping my ears from sweating as much when it was hot in the room.

I just ended up buy an AT2020 mic and a small mixer. The mic that came with the headset is like all other headset trash after a little use.

Hopefully not the c3 sound us muffled and quieter compared to c2 tried 2 cloud 3s to make sure even tried a gpro x still prefere the cloud 2 it s superb

Tbh I would highly recommend going for Hyperx cloud 2, they can get a bit pricy in some regions, but it was absolutely worth it for me, they felt like feather compared to my old headphones, and audio quality is really good, using it for gaming and movies so its really nice, though the mic can be a bit quiet if its too far from the mouth, outside of that, been using for 3 years, they are like brand new.

In fact, I made a post on the front page of the sub not even a month ago about how my Cloud 2 headset was falling apart.

Are you serious? I have the original ones and the mic background noise is my main issue. If someone is watching TV in the same room I'm playing the mic is always picking that up. But if I switch to my Hyperx Cloud II the mic of that headset doesn't pick up the TV at all. But one of the main features of this new Xbox model is the mic voice isolutation and how it handles background noise. Is this mic still that bad like the previous model? :/

I just bought the hyperX cloud 2 from Walmart for $39, going to grab these and compare the two. I have PC37X’s for my PC and really liked them. If they have a warmer tone like Sennheiser then most likely I’ll keep these and return the cloud 2.

I expected the Razer Blackshark V2 to be much higher. I've got that one and the sound is pretty awesome. It's even a bit better than Hyperx Cloud 2, which my GF owns (has been mine before)

I have been fan of hyperx since when I first used hyperx cloud core, then I upgraded to cloud 2 which was the best thing I'ved done, then I was tired of using headphones so I switched to iems of which experience in gaming was not that great especially in fps like valorant, then I decided to upgrade to cloud 3, tbh cloud 3s are not that great when compared to their past gens, my head kinda hurts while playing it for a long time, they are not for medium to large shaped head, I think small shaped head could use it, but not us hyperx failed this time in comfort zone tbh

Pros use them cause they are often sponsored or (like tenz) they use what ever they use one stage. I would recommend going with hyperx cloud ii if you want something thats decent but a good price. Alternative you start looking into the rabbit hole that audiophiles live in. Joshua, Optimum and BadSeedTech have some good insights, i personally have the hd660s as my daily driver but if you don’t have the environment needed for open back headphones i think the dt770pro is a solid choice! Old but gold! And of course very affordable! You might need a stand alone mic and some type of headphone amp. But damn, if you like music and gaming its so worth it!

I will be honest with you here, I have been an FPS player for like 10-15 years now, Hyper X Cloud 2 are one of the best of all time. The quality sound in-game is very good you hear all the important info and the mic itself isn’t bad. I use them still today and I don’t regret it. I heard razer blackshark are good but I never tried them myself and idk the price on them.

I currently use the HyperX Cloud 2. It’s a great headset. Would recommend. And Before it I had Astro A10s Wired, They have stood up well over the years, highly recommend them. You can remove the cable if it’s damaged and replace it. Ive been through 5+ cables for it. I personally prefer cabled over wireless, I hate trying to remember to charge it.

Mine lasted 4 months. Then one of the ear pieces snapped. They also had weird connecting issues to my PC. HyperX cloud II are solid and relatively cheap, around 80$ on Amazon.

I have this headset and highly recommended, works well with PS4 and pc. But I have a question to you guys, I wanted to use this headset to listen music on my old device where the single mini jack doesn't work so I need to separate to two jack's. One for mic and one for sound. The problem is when I use adapters I hear a bad noise. I found so far that was a few different standards for mini jack's and maybe must be different adapter

Had the exact same experience as me, i loved the cloud 2s for everything fps, upgrade to the 3s changed all the recommended settings from online and still sounded maybe 80% as good as the twos and were comfortable, the only pro was that the microphone quality was way better. Either way, i returned it and bought two pairs of 2s LOL

Yeah they re-released the 2's with the plasticy square on the wishbone connection, and the 3's are all HP. Still go on sale quite a lot, so can't be entirely a no-go, but not the no-brainer recommend they once were.

They're decent in a vacuum, but compared to the true HyperX products, it's crazy how they basically ruined them. The old 2's were bulletproof, with excellent mic/audio quality for their class, at a pretty reasonable price, and their CS was excellent. Software has never been great, but that's all gaming software.

I've used both the wired and wireless HyperX Cloud II and I've loved them both. I think they're on the Cloud III now. But yeah, if you want to pay an arm and a leg, then I believe the Audeze Maxwell are top of class.

I tried the HyperX and it had dogshit bass, and sounded awful. To me. Everything is subjective. The best headset I've ever used, again, to me, have been the Logitech pro-X. Amazzzzzing bass. You hear it differently in those things. I don't know why or what happened but every other headset I tried, all the "professional" ones like razer etc all sounded tinny and terrible. Like so bad I felt they were closer to Five Below quality airpod sounds.

For starters, I don't feel any difference between the Kingstons and HP versions of the Cloud II. The only real difference is the build quality. The build quality seemed a little more resistant during the Kingston era, but there's a downside no one talks about when they criticize the HP versions. The old Kingston's rubber material that covered the headset would get ugly and sticky very fast. I do prefer the current plastic, if you're careful with them they won't get as bad. They are great, their sound is heavy and loaded and the microphone is one of the best I've used. Even when I talk quietly at night everyone can clearly understand every word I say. Now, should you buy these for your PS5? Maybe. Why? Because the HyperX Cloud X exists. Now, I've never tried the Cloud X, they were made for the Xbox. And yes, they made a [PlayStation Version](https://row.hyperx.com/pt/products/hyperx-cloud-playstation?variant=40838001131725) but they are hard to find and didn't make it because the X for some reason work better on the PlayStation. If you can return the item: Pick the Cloud X first. If you can't return the item: Pick the Cloud II I don't regret the Cloud II, they're the best headset for the price range and it beats many headsets twice it's price but I would definitely try the Cloud X first. Fun fact, the Cloud II and Cloud X are the same headset. Exactly the same. The only difference is the Impedance that was lowered so the sound output (via 3.5mm jack in the controler) sounds louder than usual because it has less resistance.

Compared to most other of the top picks, it's damn affordable while still offering "good" sound quality and personally speaking, they're the most confortable headset/headphone I've ever worn. Can wear them for hours, no problem. ... but I'm also not an audiophile and don't have a ton of headphones to compare them with. But for that cheap price range, they're pretty good. Except for the quality issues you mentioned, of course. Even my worst pair lasted a few years, at least, but they're definitely not going to last forever. I'm not sure how long higher-price headphones / headsets will last, though. And stuff like the ear covers or mic are easy to replace on the HyperX.

Paid around 75€ for my original HyperX Cloud and used it for 8 1/2 years before finally switching for a Cloud II. IMO that's not a bad life span for a sub 100€ headset. I've been using a Cloud II for 3+ years at work and that one is still in very good condition (but hasn't been used as much as my private set). I have no idea how long a 300+€ headset will truly last. I'd expect the typical summer sweat to become an issue for any kind of cushioning on even the higher end models over time.

I'll just keep buying HyperX clouds. No reason to get more expensive models for me, one of the few headsets that doesn't hurt while wearing glasses and the mic's really good. My last one even came with the Solocast which I've never used cus it picks up my keyboard and table thumps

Well best headset for the price I’d say the HyperX cloud 2. Great headset. It does good low range and can go so loud you need to turn them down, so if you want a good all rounded I’d recommend them

My Cloud II's are still going strong, the Kingston ones though, I tried some of the new HP ones and they suck.

I have 3 at home, hyperx 2, Siberia 840 and g pro x2. I can tell you there’s no advantage of hearing footsteps further away out of the 3 I have. Maybe just a slight bit if you tweak the equalizer. Volume on 70-80% is good enough for me. IMO invest one you can afford with good mics, came across many friends and rng players sounded like they’re either diving in water or electrocuted l.

Senn 6XX and 58X, Sony XM4, HyperX Clouds, AKG earbuds... IVE TRIED IT ALL, BABY

I’ve used a set of hyperx clouds that were like £30 for the last 4 years… can’t fault them.. I recently just got some “kz Zsn pro” iem’s from Ali express for £3 and can’t fault them either… Some headphones do sound clearer but for me personally as long as there’s some form of soundstage you’re ears will adapt and learn player locations anyway… so yeah expensive headphones can be better .. but if your not listening out for what you need to hear it won’t make a difference … just make sure the headphones are comfortable and have a good seal

I recently got some kz zsn pro iem’s for £3 and it feels so much better not having a headset digging into my skull. Music is 10 times better compared to my hyperx clouds I had.. I will say gaming took a little getting used to, just because the difference in sound stage.. but overall I’d deffo say iem’s are the way to go especially with the price difference

if you want wired headphones with a mic, a detachable cable and a detachable soundcard, then logitech g pro x are a great replacement for the old hyperx clouds. speaking from experience.

Personally, I stopped using "gaming headsets" a while ago. Over the years, I've tried various ones (Razer BlackShark V2, HyperX Cloud (can't remember the exact model), SteelSeries Arctis 7) and concluded that they all have terrible sound quality and are uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. Pretty much the only time I used them was when I needed the mic for voice communication. Outside of that, I've been using an AKG K7xx and Sennheiser HD6xx, both from Massdrop, with an external USB DAC and amplifier - in my case, an O2+ODAC and an SDAC - also both from Massdrop. Both of these work fine both in Linux and Windows. A year ago or so, I got a desk microphone (Elgato Wave:3) for voice communications so I wouldn't have to use the horrible gaming headsets at all anymore. Currently using the Elgato Wave:3 as well as a Fifine AM8 (in two different locations), and both work fine with Linux as well. If I was to personally recommend something, it would be to get a decent headphone, such as Sennheiser HD6xx (or HD650, which is almost the same but probably easier to get if Massdrop isn't currently selling HD6xx) and DAC+amplifier, and a desk microphone for voice communication if needed. It'll be a bit more expensive than a gaming headset, and not wireless, but the difference in comfort and audio quality is massive.

Don't get a "Gaming" headset. Get a studio headset, and a table microphone. Consider something from Beyerdynamics or AKG if you really care about sound. (those are just my picks, you could get something from any solid audio brand, like Sennheiser) If you really want something with a microphone, i think Beyerdynamics recently launched a gaming-oriented headset line, with built-in microphones. If you're not looking to break the bank, the HyperX clouds are and always will be a top pick. Solid sound, amazing comfort, and very durable.

I've considered those, because I want wireless. Will it be a worthwhile upgrade to my HyperX Cloud that I've had for 10 years? And how does the point about making any audio source wireless work? I play a lot on my PS2 and 1st gen Xbox still.

So for context, i have the same headphones. I've replaced both the Ear Cushions and the Top Leather and they're basically brand new. I've had mine for the similar amount of time and have to say they're the best headset i've ever had. The battery is dying a little now so who knows what i'm gonna buy next!

I had a HyperX CloudS for 4 years, then I switched to the HyperX Cloud Alpha and it is a dream. 300 hour battery life means I can charge it once a month after using it for work and gaming every day.

I had about 3 of them. They are good when they work but eventually they stop working. Mine only lasted a year almost to the dot on all 3.

I completely agree the sound was great never stopped working but my problems was always the mic. It would stop working that and Xbox controller aux ports suck ass!

Hyper x cloud

Just bought my son his 2nd pair and I have one too. Probably tried 10 others over the years and never been as happy as hyper x

How is the Hyper X cloud so low on the list? I own one and everyone who I know that games on PC has one of the cloud headset models.

Maybe I am a bit late on this topic but from what I have heard, the HyperX Cloud series and Logitech Pros are quite good. Or am I wrong and those are not worth mentioning (I am really on the search for new headphones cause the padding on my Hyperx cloud mix are dying)
