"the Cloud II's microphone sounded the best, the clearer on every single audio device I've tested. ... I'm still recovering from that one to be honest. It was a surprise that went against everything I've seen on reviews so I'd like to really underline that one because most people thing the Cloud II microphone isn't good."

"the microphone was my biggest surprise. ... the Cloud II's microphone sounded the best, the clearer on every single audio device I've tested. ... Crystal clear microphone, picks up everything and has good cancelling, if you have an average voice it should sound better than most headsets. ... the microphone is one of the best I've used. Even when I talk quietly at night everyone can clearly understand every word I say. ... It's one of the best microphones i've used. Your voice sounds crisp and clear even if you're speaking lower. ... Also the higher pitch microphone will allow your teammates to hear you will even in loud situations."

"But if I switch to my Hyperx Cloud II the mic of that headset doesn't pick up the TV at all."

"The pinpoint accuracy is insane. ... This was more noticeable on Valorant as it is a more sound dependent game. You won't miss anything with these. I started to watch out at angles I wouldn't watch with the others because some audio cue made me suspect a door and ... it was 100% right all the time. I could tell where they were with excellent accuracy, both horizontal and vertical."

"The pinpoint accuracy is insane. ... I played Valorant on PS5, xDefiant and Warzone. ... I started to watch out at angles I wouldn't watch with the others because some audio cue made me suspect a door and ... it was 100% right all the time. I could tell where they were with excellent accuracy, both horizontal and vertical. ... there was a scene where I heard steps coming from a wall and I thought "there must be a room here" so I went around in silence and killed the guy with high precision, it was incredible and 100% thanks to the headset."

"For gaming the hyperx cloud II hands down simply because it picks up footsteps and other important sounds a lot clearer."

"I ditched all my gaming headsets (the cleanest sound was on my HyperX Cluod 2 wired & the Audeze Penrose) and use the Beyerdynamic dt770pro, Sennheiser hd560s, Crinacle Zero Blue and Moondrop Chu II (the last two are iems). All wired and without a mic, but man is the sound nice. ... I haven’t used HyperX since I got the dt770 and hd560 and that says it all. The difference in sound might not seem that big at start (it still is noticeable), but you’re just gonna be appreciating it more and more as time goes by. The detail and clarity is something else completely. I don’t think I’m ever gonna buy a gaming headset again."

"They sound like very high but trashy at the same time. ... I made the upgrade to ps5 and they are a mess. ... On Apex Legends I can't play like normally because of this. It's like a chaotic sound coming from everywhere. :("

They're a real mixed bag, previously I'd have mentioned the clouds, but the fixed boom ones were always kind of shitty, and the HP era clouds with flexible arms, where they decided AI could overcome the pop filter, well they were wrong, and the sound quality is noticably far worse. I'd probably go back to recommending the corsair ones, they have shit quality too, but at least the price is more appropriate, and most of them have flexy arms and all metal wishbone so you can throw them around or sit on them without worrying they'll implode. Turtle Beach is probably the best on the cheap end, you get what you pay for, but that's not a given in the gaming peripheral space.

I had the Cloud II about 10 years ago and I can vouch for Kingston's spatial sound. Didn't sound great with music, as with any VSS that I know of, but it was amazing for what it was. A pair of decent headphones with a mic added on later, instead of being built as a headset and thus no priority given to sound. Sadly, I can't be sure Kingston has kept it up after all these years, but they certainly had something going at one time.

Hey man, I know this is an old post but I literally can’t find anyone else that has talked about using the Cloud 2’s with the PS5. I just got mine and they sound pretty horrendous. Best thing I can think of to describe is that it sounds like the sound is being filtered through a tin can. No bass and the highs pierce my eardrums, regardless if I use the USB or just straight up connect the jack into my controller. Did you experience this? Did you do any set up / make audio adjustments, or did you just straight up connect with the 3.5mm jack to the PS5 controller. I just dropped $80 on these and am so disappointed.

@op I have the ath-m50x bt2, best headphones I've ever owned. I had the razer blackshark v2 pro before this, but the charging port went out, or had some other electrical issues like a month after I got them... Quite sad as I loved how they looked and sounded. They're my blender hearing protection now haha. I do have a blue desk mic tho so if you don't, I might consider other headphones. Also, I would consider not doing Bluetooth as the above person isn't, I have issues in certain games with the Bluetooth protocols in windows. Black ops 6 and rocket League are the easiest example, as soon as a match starts and I connect to voice chat, bluetooth immediately and fully crashes until I restart my computer. System Bluetooth settings get laggy, I can turn off Bluetooth but it won't turn back on and it shows no Bluetooth adapter. It is a known issue, and for most turning off hands free telephony in windows fixes, but def doesn't for me. This however doesn't happen in most games and ABI is amazing with them as are most games. I have my old hyper x cloud 2 wired for those games XD.

I had a HyperX Cloud II Wired headset which I loved. Eventually I wanted to go wireless and swapped to another (more pricey!) brand. I had several problems with it and honestly it was much less comfortable for my head. I missed my HyperX, so I bought the Cloud Alpha hoping it was essentially a wireless Cloud II. It is exactly that. I absolutely love it. The only way I would not recommend the headset is if you have above average sized ears. They fit a little smaller than many other headsets.

Take a look at the HyperXCloud II Wireless and wired. We (my daughter and me) use that since a year or to and they are really great: comfortable, usable for different head sizes, great sound (virtual surround). The wireless version comes with an USB dongle which is faster than Bluetooth. We got the wired version first, but wireless is worth the extra money. We got both from Amazon, with discount for about 65€ for the wired version 110€ for wireless.

Most gaming headphones are just cheap headphones sold at a higher price due to rgb or branding. Even cheap studio headphones would be far better. The old HyperX products like Cloud 2 and Alpha are based on studio headphones so they're not bad. Their new stuff is awful, though. And Razer in particular has the most overpriced headphones I've ever seen. SHP9500 would be far better than all of these and probably cheaper, too

Logitech pays a lot for marketing. I find that hard to believe since Cloud 2 are literally a pair of studio headphones - Takstar Pro 80, to be precise, just with a worse tuning and a mic.

HyperX Cloud 2. Those are basically just rebranded Takstar 80 with a mic attached so they're quite a bit better than all those other options since they're based on actual good headphones.

11 years is a long time in today’s marketing-driven headphone and gaming headset market. When I say “gaming headset” I specifically mean one with a mic attached — nothing else. I’ve used the original **Sennheiser Game One** (2014) for 11 years now, and they’ve held up incredibly well. I play a lot — sometimes 6-7 hours at a time — and sort of semi-competitively back in the day. I’ve used them on Xbox with an Astro MixAmp Pro TR (which I kept after being tricked into buying an Astro headset many years ago). #TL;DR Comfort, durability, and sound quality have been unmatched for me for 11 years. I’d recommend the Sennheiser Game One to anyone — even second-hand in decent condition. They’re still better than the hyped **Epos PC38x** and the more modern **Epos H6PRO**. I’ve bought countless other headsets and headphones — but always end up coming back to the Game One. **And here’s why…** #DURABILITY I don’t baby my gear. I don’t keep it in a case. I toss it around. I’ve even slept with them on when earbuds weren’t available. Result: almost no wear and tear. The headband padding finally started coming loose after 10 years (a little glue fixed it). Probably my fault for not cleaning them well from dust and dirt over the years. Cable and ear pads? Still original. Never needed replacement. The fabric sleeve at the plug end of the cable has started to fray a bit (the actual rubber cable underneath is fine), but I’ve already bought a backup cable (that works fine) on eBay just in case. This one: https://www.amazon.com/ABLET-Replacement-Compatible-Sennheiser-Headsets/dp/B0CZST2KMH #COMFORT Very good, from my experience of having them on for 6-7 hours straight.. Maybe they feel slightly less comfortable than when they were brand new — but it could also just be my imagination. I still wear them for hours. The ear pads have probably flattened a little, because I can sometimes feel the inner driver housing or grill or whatever it is sitting close to my ears. Nothing major, though. And the clamp is still strong. #SOUND Again, I’ve tried so many other gaming headsets — from more expensive brands like **Audio Technica** to overpriced (and sometimes gimmicky) stuff from **Astro**, **Turtle Beach**, **Razer**, **SteelSeries**, etc. Then there’s the very hyped **Epos PC38x** (supposed to be basically the same as the Game One — hint: they’re not), and most recently the **Epos H6PRO Open** (back in the box after 10 minutes)… I keep looking, but nothing feels as good. Especially for sound-dependent multiplayer games like **Battlefield**. I can’t relax if the sound feels “off.” It honestly bugs me way too much and it doesn’t go well with my autism. Which is why I keep going back to the Game One. Watching a movie with bad sound is unbearable, right? Same thing here. These just sound alive. Fuller, warmer, wider. Like you’re hearing exactly what the game’s sound engineer wanted you to hear — uncompressed, with zero compromises. I’ve had some issues in **Black Ops 6** where spatial awareness felt worse, but that’s clearly a game issue, not the headset. No issues in any Battlefield games whatsoever and I’ve played them all. #The only alternative I’d recommend As I’ve made clear, I’ve tried many others, but the only other gaming headset I’d actually recommend is: **HyperX Cloud II** I bought the wired model around 2016, and honestly, I liked them a lot. Comfort, build, sound — all solid. But they’re not open-back, which I prefer for FPS games, so I gave them to my younger brother. Still, nothing has ever come close to making me as happy with the sound as the Sennheiser Game One. That’s my completely subjective opinion, of course — but the fact that I’m still taking the time to praise this headset 11 years later is probably a good indicator.

They are the ones that almost look like pilot headset actually. There’s a cloud 2 abd 3 already as well though both will do just as well for you honestly. The mic is also solid. Hard to beat the value on the first one if you are looking in a budget. Otherwise I’d recommended the newer one, or even the cloud 2. It has adapters that work nicely for both pc and console and has a surround sound control on pc via usb https://a.co/d/agrcwgC

I actually sent mine back due to the clamp pressure and headband getting sore after awhile. I have a wired cloud 2 and love it, so I thought the cloud 3s wireless was the perfect upgrade but it just was not as comfortable. I think over time the clamp pressure would lessen, I did losses it a bit over some books for a couple of nights, but the narrow headband is not nearly as comfortable as the cloud 2. Two other things that made me revonsider. I had a couple of disconnects to the wifi dongle, and lastly why the hell is the headband pleather?! That shit is awfull and falls apart after a year. With a shaved head probably even quicker. Should have gone with a fabric band. Anyway, rant over 🤪 I'm sure others will love them. I will say this, the sound was great!

I’ve been using the HyperX Cloud II wired headset for a while now and have been really happy with the sound quality, especially for FPS games like Warzone. I’m considering upgrading to the HyperX Cloud III wireless for the convenience of going wireless, but I’m curious about how the sound compares. If I’m already content with the audio on the Cloud II, do you think I’ll enjoy the Cloud III as much or more? For reference, I mainly care about clear footsteps and directional audio for competitive FPS games. Would love to hear from anyone who’s made the switch! Thanks!

Two best "gaming" headsets for footsteps have been the hyper x cloud 2's and razer blackshark v2 pro. Both series have newer models, but the v2's were tuned specifically for hearing footsteps in shooters so they remain a favorite for many players, including pros. The newer razer model just came out and have different tuning for more overall uses and some other features within their software so you can EQ them, but haven't tried them. I'd vouch for both the blackshark v2pro and hyperx cloud 2 for fps gaming though. No other headphone/headset I use comes close to the hyperx cloud 2's for footstep directional clarity in games I play (valorant, apex, cs2). Music and movies are ass on it though lmao. Other than that, I'd probably recommend just getting headphones like the seinheiser HD600 and then a seperate microphone to enjoy gaming/media tbh. It's not very hard to hear footsteps if you're locked in and if you wanna get deep into it, you can use EQ software on nearly any decent headphones to lean towards fps gaming and then also switch to another EQ profile to enjoy music/media.

Pros use them cause they are often sponsored or (like tenz) they use what ever they use one stage. I would recommend going with hyperx cloud ii if you want something thats decent but a good price. Alternative you start looking into the rabbit hole that audiophiles live in. Joshua, Optimum and BadSeedTech have some good insights, i personally have the hd660s as my daily driver but if you don’t have the environment needed for open back headphones i think the dt770pro is a solid choice! Old but gold! And of course very affordable! You might need a stand alone mic and some type of headphone amp. But damn, if you like music and gaming its so worth it!

I’ve had a ton of “gaming headsets” over the years, including a ton of sennheisers via sponsorship during cs. They’re all shit, because they try to do both audio and mic. And they’re all cheap plastic. Swapped to Beyerdynamic DT770 pro + XLR mic and after 12 years of using that I’m swapping to 990 pro because they’re literally falling apart now. Can even buy replacement parts to fix it up again. Never looking back at overpriced “gaming branded headsets” Maybe the only one I can recommend if you still insist on getting one, is the hyper x cloud 2 Because of similar durability with Beyerdynamic, as it’s literally a product made with them.

I understand. When I switched from Cloud IIs to X2HRs, it sounded there was absolutely no bass because I was so used to the Cloud II’s warmer tuning. I liked the Cloud IIs significantly more until I got used to the new tuning. Simply reducing the loudness of higher frequencies can make things seem muffled, and reducing the loudness of lower frequencies can make things seem tinny. It’s all in comparison with what you’re used to. I don’t know if the difference you experienced is due to the “brain burn in time” or weird audio processing (sometimes the headphones come with “7.1 surround sound” emulation which ruins the audio balance), so that’s why I recommended that you drive them a little longer. Generally it’s recommended to turn all audio enhancements off (spatial audio, 7.1, windows sonic etc) if you want the best tracking, unless it’s built for the game (like Cryspatial is). You honestly don’t have much choice at your budget if you want a significant “upgrade” in tracking quality compared to the Krakens. The Cloud IIs are generally known as having decent sound quality but I’m not sure what changes they made with the IIIs.

i had mine for like 7 years. they are solid. i do agree these are a banger combo for an all in one headset. But. i recently upgraded to a standalone headset with an amp dac and a standalone mic i already had. the difference is night and day in quality. While i do recommend these for budget or people who cant be bothered but this is by no means the headphone endgame

Sound quality feels the same to me, ill have to see how this one handles with age but OOTB its comfy (MAYBE comfier than the 2 not sure). Overall, both will treat you well

Not sure if you have ordered yet, I currently have a pair of wired cloud 3s, they are great, the mic is very good, only issue i had was the wire always got stuck under my chair wheel because of how long it was which eventually led the usbc being ripped out. Everyone i have spoken to has preferred the cloud 2 and the cloud 2 is used by a lot more fps streamers and pros, i am likely going to order the cloud 2s so i can give you my opinion if you still need.

In my opinion I had the 1 for the longest time. It started to fall apart, the ear covers anyway. Got the replacements on Amazon for 15 bucks and they still work perfectly since 2021. The cloud 2s I bought and tbh they hurt my ears after wearing for several hours. Good for short sessions and bad for long sessions. Id go 1 cause the ear cushions are better suited for long sessions. Even though they aren't wireless.

Also backing HyperX. They were my go to brand before I stepped up into boom mics and audiophile headsets. My old Cloud 2s I've had for something like 7 to 8 years and my kids still use them. For the price point I doubt you could do better and they are definitely good enough.

Most of the ones you just listed are double or almost triple the cost of the Cloud 2's too. So how about some that cost around $100 or less instead of $150-200+ I don't mind my Cloud 2's but if I can find something better for a reasonable price I'm game. I've tried the Cloud 3's and they aren't as loud as the Cloud 2's so I returned those. They also advertised the 3's come with DTS but according to Hyperx the DTS is already built into the USB cable which the Xbox doesn't recognize. I'm currently sitting here looking at the FiiO JT1 box that I'm waiting for the UPS guy to come pick up since I'm returning those too. Everyone said those were supposed to sound so great and they sound way worse than my Cloud 2's do! I even bought a boom mic cord for the FiiO JT1 since I was sure this had to be the best ones so far and now I'm gonna probably be stuck with a $25 cord I can't use on anything else! IDK I'm still waiting to get the cord then I'm going to see if I can return that as well. I'm wanting the best budget headphones I can get for ARC Raiders. So any lower priced recommendations are welcome. They just need to sound better than my Cloud 2's. They also need to have a microphone. Preferably a boom mic.

I've had both. My usage is upwards of 15ish hours per day for work plus gaming on average. The joint for the cloud 2 where the band meets the metal doesn't last longer than 15 months. That warranty has been used too often. I just got the cloud alpha and it's much the same so far, except it's louder and I can hear a larger amount of sounds off rip without modification that helps in games where you need to hear everything like tarkov. Oh I forgot, the sound of the mic in cloud 2s seems to be better clarity if you care about that I'd still get cloud 2 if I'm needing to save cash but preferably in going to buy alphas from now on. The 300 hour battery is insane.

I tried a few headset last month (PC gaming) SteelSeries Nova 7P, Audiotechnica M50X, Benedynamic DT880 Pro, and HyperX cloud 2. These are my opinion as day-to-day game and music enjoyer. Not an audiophile. I’m using EQ with Steel series GG - Sonar. Nova 7 and hyperX are wireless and closed back. M50X (closed back) and DT 880 pro (semi-open-back) are wired. I settled down for HyperX cloud 2 (upgraded with wicked cushion) for wireless and DT 880 pro for wired with DAC. Nova 7 is awesome, but it falls short on 2 pain points - too small for my head and plastic hinges. I fear I’ll break it in months from my daily usage/abuse. Otherwise they are terrific. M50X is also good with crystal clear sounds… but I prefer open back of the DT880 Pro more. DT880 Pro also has bigger ear cushion, more comfortable long gaming session. Purely personal preference. HyperX cloud 2 works wonders for me. Good sound and bass. Even better when used with EQ. When compared to Nova 7, it has better omph bass in wireless mode (nova 7 is a beast when plugged in). DT 880 pro is my spare for when the hyperX ran out of battery or when I need a better sound for movie immersive-ness. It just works. As your partner wanting wireless, give HyperX and SteelSeries a try. They are both closed back with good reviews. YMMW. These are under $150. If you can spend $200+ then there are other tier of headset that’s outside of my budget range.

>Most of the praise seems to be for the older Kingston-made Cloud 2, but from what I can tell, only the HP-branded versions are available now. Are they the same quality? Or should I avoid the newer ones? I think they’re pretty much the same thing, but I’ve seen a lot of people in this sub trash-talking the HP-branded versions. Personally, I got a Cloud Alpha S from HP back in 2023, and I’ve had zero issues with it—so I’m not really sure what the hate’s about. As for the Cloud 3’s mic, yeah, it’s really good. But on PS5, the mic quality ends up sounding worse because you can’t adjust the hertz settings there. In my opinion, the Cloud 3 is the better choice overall—especially because of its improved mic and battery life. That said, the Cloud 2 might still have a slight edge in sound quality for FPS games, so if competitive gaming is your top priority, that’s worth considering. I dont think that the USB-A or USB-C will be a problem.

I have the **Audio-Technica M50xSTS** w/USB connection. Beforehand I used hyperx cloud II's so these were my first non surround sound headest, which took a little to get use too. But the sound quality is insane! I have never had such crisp audio gaming or listening to music. The mic is one of the best for being on a headset, again very clear and top quality. I am a glasses wearer so always worry about if there are comfortable but these were fine! Tbh, my hyperx's were comfy as well but the ear cups were very bulky compared to my current headset. These don't pinch at all. There is no RGB and they only come in black. I am in the UK so I only just looked at the price on Amazon US and yeah...they are very expensive over the pond 😯 They are £165 in the UK, currently $249 on Amazon US. Outside of your budget but just had to give my recommendation (plus I typed this all out before checking the US price 😂).

The nice thing is, consoles and PCs, have an equalizer to tweak the settings. I'd rather dial down bass than elevate it (usually causing distortion). Stock form, they are pretty great for music. The extra bass is great for single player games, it definitely adds to the immersion.

HyperX does sometimes do rebrands of existing headphones, like the Cloud 2 is a Takstar Pro 80 (very similar to the Beyernamic DT770 Pro) with a microphone and the Cloud Orbit is basically an Audeze Mobius without Bluetooth (the Orbit S also removes the head tracking) for less money. You read negative comments here because sound is the most important factor here (+ comfort). And if you compare any gaming headset to some “proper non-gaming” headphones, the difference in sound is night and day. I ditched all my gaming headsets (the cleanest sound was on my HyperX Cluod 2 wired & the Audeze Penrose) and use the Beyerdynamic dt770pro, Sennheiser hd560s, Crinacle Zero Blue and Moondrop Chu II (the last two are iems). All wired and without a mic, but man is the sound nice.

The Cloud 2 are notorious for ridiculous amounts of muddy bass. With the issue being a significantly raised area around 300khz (which adds significant "thickness"). The Cloud 3 simple needs a little nudge in the subbass and in the lower treble, but is a much nicer "base" FR to work with than the old Cloud 2. And the Cloud 2 was just a rebadged Takstar Pro 80. Great for it's time, but outclassed nowadays.

The Alpha's feel better built than the 'newer' Cloud 2 but personally I think the Cloud 2 sounds slightly better due to the bass not bleeding into the mids as much. So I think it comes down to whether you want slightly better build quality (and more premium feel) or slightly better sound quality. The Alpha's still sound decent if you're not cranking up the volume but the cloud 2 just sound a little bit better. I will also say that even tho the cloud 2's don't feel as well built I haven't had a problem with mine.

Just a quick heads up - HyperX Cloud 3s aren't really all that bassy if at all, which I have found to disappoint many people online, so if you're looking for a more traditional yet still good sounding headset (to the untrained ears at least), maybe look for the HyperX Cloud Alphas instead, or maybe even the Cloud 2s (more boomy, or bassy if you will). These two picks of mine will probably sound better to you, and apart from the earcups (both) which eventually peel and the volume wheel on the Alphas (both of which you can easily and cheaply replace if it gives up on you), you'll get something that not only sounds quite good, is very comfortable, and has a sorta decent mic, you'll also get something that's built really well so it actually lasts. Btw. for more info that you can still hopefully digest easily enough, check out the recommendations by [Rtings.com](http://Rtings.com) (not a typo), they've got nice top-recommendation lists, nice reviews, and if you need it, a bunch of statistics and metrics and whatnot that they use to test things objectively. Part of me just wonders if its simply a case of a lot of audio enthusiasts accidentally hurting their hearing a bunch as teenagers lol. I personally used a pair of HyperX cloud IIs for like 7 years with my computer volume at only ~30%. So I guess it might be a "know yourself" situation. Personally I liked the cloud 2s enough to already buy a back up pair for when my current years old pair dies finally

Most streamer/pros from CS use the hyper x cloud 2 for years, I got it because of it myself. Best decision ever. It is leight weight, great sound (without 7.1), quite cheap, good price/Performance, it lasts for many, many years (I think it has 10k+ hours usage at this point). Don't know anything about hyperx cloud alpha, my guess it is quite similar

Sony InZone H9. Tried them all Bluetooth and Wired. Good bass, mid and highs. Can connect a couple devices at once. Playing a game you can also have your phone connected. Range is very good. For an out of box solution just plug in the usb dongle and you are good to go. FYI. Everyone will recommend Astros or Arctic even HyperX. They lack bass and land in the “Tinny” sound. Granted if you like wired, get the HyperX Cloud 2’s with a amp. You’ll need a converter for the PS5. That had booming bass. Loved it. But I wanted to go wireless and the H9’s are awesome. Original H9’s have dropped to $150 because they just came out with the H9 II which are $350. I have the original. Will upgrade at some point to H9 II. https://preview.redd.it/20e4528mmzvf1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a2c9a9b2e1b5e6f42fd78f93d62f9a84b22b227

Are you serious? I have the original ones and the mic background noise is my main issue. If someone is watching TV in the same room I'm playing the mic is always picking that up. But if I switch to my Hyperx Cloud II the mic of that headset doesn't pick up the TV at all. But one of the main features of this new Xbox model is the mic voice isolutation and how it handles background noise. Is this mic still that bad like the previous model? :/

Mine still going strong as well. Great microphone, my voice sounds clear even when I have to whisper. Sound is crisp and not too bassy like most gaming headsets, but when something crumbles or explodes the bass is there to give it a thump. The only downside of this headset for me is that the cable is not detachable like the mic.

I’ve never used the Alpha X but I settled on the HyperX Cloud II after months of searching and trying different models. The Cloud II was the most comfortable by far and sounds absolutely fine. If the Cloud II Wireless is the same as the regular Cloud II but wireless, I can absolutely recommend those. I wouldn’t give a damn about the dongle connection, just get a cheap adapter or hub if you want to use another port.

To me they sound great, especially for the money. I have pretty sensitive ears and I find them rather bass heavy, not tinny at all. Which is good for gaming headphones since, imho, you get these type of cans for gaming first, music second. Shooting, explosions, bass rumble, engine rumble all sounds pretty visceral with good punch. I've just compared my trusty old Cloud II's against my iBasso SR2's on a balanced dac/amp and while the iBasso's obviously sound better I can wholeheartedly recommend the Cloud II's. Maybe the people who claim these sound tinny are the types who put everything on bass boost all day long. Skullcandy Crusher customers. So if the wireless version is anything like the regular Cloud II's, I'd be over the moon to get this for my birthday at 14. (Headphones compared on Win11 desktop with Spotify Premium, highest available bitrate both at 50% volume)

I’m not sure audiophile grade headsets are a thing, maybe something like the [Audeze LCD GX](https://us.amazon.com/Audeze-LCD-GX-Gaming-Headset-Wired-All-Analog/dp/B07TLNYMRM)? Not trying to be pedantic but I wouldn’t call a pair of 100 dollar Bluetooth headphones ‘audiophile’ grade. I think you wouldn’t notice much of a difference between the options you listed, however, the mic would probably sound a lot better. I went from a HyperX Cloud II to an iBasso SR2 and the difference is huge, but those are more than 100 bucks.

The fact that no one is saying [Drop PC38x](https://drop.com/buy/drop-epos-pc38x-gaming-headset) is sad. I thought this community was finally understanding good audio. There are definitely better options these days, but for the price, quality, and for a headset, it's still very unbeatable. I recommend IEMs or audiophile grade headphones paired with an external mic like the Fifine mics for $50 or less over a headset, but if you specifically want a headset, go with the PC38X. IEMs go for Truthear Hexa (specifically for R6) with the Dunu S&S eartips for a better soundstage or the new Truthear Zero Blue2 if you think the nozzle will be too big for your ear. Then again, pair it with a Fifine mic. For headphones I don't have anything under $200 that I could recommend but generally stick to Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser, then AudioTechnica, Fiio and I believe either Moondrop or Kiwi Ears just released a really good headphone for less than $80. Beyerdynamic and Sennheiser are priorities. Once more pair it with an external mic like the Fifine mics. Hope this helps. I really don't recommend any of these gamer headphones in the current year when you can literally get audiophile grade audio for less than or for the same price. 100% avoid the ASTRO a10. The worst pain a headset has given me and the audio is very muddy. If you must go with gamer headsets for some reason, HyperX Cloud IIs are peak gamer headsets.

The Cloud 2s is what I was referring to in this case. Everything but those plastic clasps that you can see between the top band and the metal frame holding the earcups that are used to adjust the size of the headset are durable. They have screw holes where you could replace them but you would need to get them 3D printed since they don't sell them.

I just got mine yesterday... Hot Garbage! I previously used some generic Corsair HS50 headphones, and the sound quality out of the HyperX Cloud 2 are rubbish. I play CS2, and even at max volume its just a mess, grenades are overloud and just shake the room, actual footsteps and sounds I need to hear from others are muddled and not focussed, and my own gun shooting is overemphasized. I genuinely dont get how anyone recommends this for a shit. I can tell you as well, they are not properly supported on Windows 11, the drivers it installs are the generic Windows ones (just to make things compatible), and even when I tried to run the firmware updater it didnt even detect that I had Cloud 2s plugged in. So... Overall... I will be replacing them soon with something better. Very very disappointed, moreso at the amount of reviews that cheers these pieces of garbage on. Which a-hole thinks these sound good???? How??? Can you hear anything?

Going strictly by your list, I'd pick Cloud II. However, I recommend you get decent headphones like the JT1 with neutral sound and a tabletop USB mic like a Yeti/Fifine since you're into streaming. If you're okay with its looks, another option is the Koss Porta Pro. It's got a mic variant as well if you don't want to spend on a separate mic, but it's not going to sound. Outside of headphones, you'll get the best value from IEMs in the same/lower price point and a USB mic.

To answer your headset question, I have found the HyperX Cloud headset to be amazing... The battery life is witchcraft - you can go weeks without needing to charge. Decent sound quality as well and everyone online always compliments how clear I sound... HyperX did a great job with those. To everyone else discussing Headsets vs. Headphones: If it's amazing sound quality you seek, you will be disappointed again and again trying Headsets. You want Headphones! While sound quality is a focus for most companies making Headsets, they have Cost of Production to think about when it comes to designing the overall product. Essentially, they have a budget. Since Headsets have voice input and other factors such as compatibility with cross-platform and convenience of Wireless Technology, this budget gets spread thin... You will never find optimal sound quality in Headsets period!

Personally, I stopped using "gaming headsets" a while ago. Over the years, I've tried various ones (Razer BlackShark V2, HyperX Cloud (can't remember the exact model), SteelSeries Arctis 7) and concluded that they all have terrible sound quality and are uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. Pretty much the only time I used them was when I needed the mic for voice communication. Outside of that, I've been using an AKG K7xx and Sennheiser HD6xx, both from Massdrop, with an external USB DAC and amplifier - in my case, an O2+ODAC and an SDAC - also both from Massdrop. Both of these work fine both in Linux and Windows. A year ago or so, I got a desk microphone (Elgato Wave:3) for voice communications so I wouldn't have to use the horrible gaming headsets at all anymore. Currently using the Elgato Wave:3 as well as a Fifine AM8 (in two different locations), and both work fine with Linux as well. If I was to personally recommend something, it would be to get a decent headphone, such as Sennheiser HD6xx (or HD650, which is almost the same but probably easier to get if Massdrop isn't currently selling HD6xx) and DAC+amplifier, and a desk microphone for voice communication if needed. It'll be a bit more expensive than a gaming headset, and not wireless, but the difference in comfort and audio quality is massive.

My favorite is HyperX. The mic quality is good and so is the sound. It's comfy, durable, and both sets I own have lasted me for a really long time. I think my oldest of the two (Cloud) is from 2015 and my other one (Alpha) is about five years old now and it's used daily. I'm not a fan of Razer's headsets. A few of my friends use them and their mic quality seems to be pretty bad, especially for how much you pay for them. It would be more understandable if they were cheap. I've also heard they tend to break pretty easily. My only complaint about the Arctis is the two sets I've used (not sure of the models) made a creaking sound whenever I moved my head and it drove me nuts. One was brand new and the other was lightly used that I borrowed from someone. No idea if that was bad luck or if it's something it's known to do.

Don't get a "Gaming" headset. Get a studio headset, and a table microphone. Consider something from Beyerdynamics or AKG if you really care about sound. (those are just my picks, you could get something from any solid audio brand, like Sennheiser) If you really want something with a microphone, i think Beyerdynamics recently launched a gaming-oriented headset line, with built-in microphones. If you're not looking to break the bank, the HyperX clouds are and always will be a top pick. Solid sound, amazing comfort, and very durable.

I've considered those, because I want wireless. Will it be a worthwhile upgrade to my HyperX Cloud that I've had for 10 years? And how does the point about making any audio source wireless work? I play a lot on my PS2 and 1st gen Xbox still.

I've had a Kingston Hyper X Cloud for my main PC for a decade. They are bullet proof and the most comfortable headset I have ever owned, and I have had many over the years. Just bought a new pair of the same (now owned by HP) for my sim rig, and they are just as comfortable and sound just as good.

Hyperx Cloud has been a very solid choice, not too expensive and the mic ain't bad. I used it for 7 years or so until it broke at the earmuffs.

I’m using a HyperX Cloud headset, paired with a Turtle Beach PX22 amplifier. I like this setup because I don’t have to think about charging batteries, and it works with all of my consoles, including when I play online with my OG Xbox.

So for context, i have the same headphones. I've replaced both the Ear Cushions and the Top Leather and they're basically brand new. I've had mine for the similar amount of time and have to say they're the best headset i've ever had. The battery is dying a little now so who knows what i'm gonna buy next!

The HyperX Clouds are great and definitely a good buy. I'd recommend looking into IEMs too though before deciding on anything. Granted they won't come with an included microphone, but the audio is way better

I had a HyperX CloudS for 4 years, then I switched to the HyperX Cloud Alpha and it is a dream. 300 hour battery life means I can charge it once a month after using it for work and gaming every day.

So in my opinion I would get the asteo A10. They are like 30 to 40 dollars and I had expensive turtle beach as a birthday gift from family that were 150 and terrible. I also had the hyperX cloud ones, black and red and still the astro A10s were so much better for hearing footsteps and comfortable. Just my opinion

Another vote for the HyperX Cloud series. Good sound quality (for a non music aficionado like me) and actually amazing build quality compared to lots of expensive gamer headsets. No flimsy plastic but solid medal frame. My old HyperX lasted 8 years. Finally, consider going wireless. I resisted a long time but finally got the Cloud Alpha and it truly has 300 hours of battery life. I don’t need to charge it for months and I use it daily for multiple hours (also for work zoom calls so mic quality is actually good).

Maybe I am a bit late on this topic but from what I have heard, the HyperX Cloud series and Logitech Pros are quite good. Or am I wrong and those are not worth mentioning (I am really on the search for new headphones cause the padding on my Hyperx cloud mix are dying)

Love my hyper X headset. I recently purchased their gaming earbuds bc I can’t wear a headset for long, I have a scar on my head in the shape and size of a headset basically, and the earbuds are surprisingly awesome! Sure there isn’t a ton of low end but that’s expected. For $20 they’re worth it imo.

tl;dr: Hyper X headsets check the cheap and comfy boxes and have a mic attached to them, but I don’t think most headsets would be anywhere close to what you have now. Depending on what people are looking for in a headset. If someone is insistent on a headset instead of a dedicated headset instead of separate headphones and mic, then I usually steer them towards Sennheiser PC37x or PC38x for a flat sound and build quality. Hyper X for cost, comfort, and features. And Astro for a jack of all trades, master of none kinda headphone (Not really too familiar with their QC since they were acquired by Logitech though). None of these headsets sound exceptional, which is why most users try to steer people towards dedicated mic and headphones if they can. But headsets still have a place and some people just prefer them. The only gaming headset I’ve heard with good imaging is the Sennheiser PC37X and PC38X (also known as the EPOS Game Zero and Game One), but the 490 is still vastly superior in most ways. Imaging in headphones is hard. Whether we like it or not, headphones are stereo. So in the end, it entirely depends on the game engine and devs to determine whether or not they are going to emulate surround sound for headphone users. Some do, some do not. It’s a crapshoot. So most of the time, well imaging headphones are still only accurate on the stereo axis because games don’t simulate 360 audio. One more edit: Headsets that advertise 7.1 are using software emulation too. As I mentioned above, headphones only have stereo channels (L/R). I have NEVER heard an out of engine emulation that sounded good. They all sound bad (except ATMOS, but that’s a whole different can of worms that we won’t get into). Don’t use them.

I've had the Hyper Cloud X. The plastic part holding the earphone to the base has broken 2x. The first time they reluctantly replaced the headphones after a month of arguing. The second time they wouldn't. They don't sell the little plastic piece so you have to find a 3d printer to pay for them to be made. Total waste and won't buy their product again.
