r/buildapcFor PC Gaming, are gaming headsets really that bad and should be absolutely avoided?

I bought the JBL 810s on a whim and have been super happy with them. I was particular about certain features and found them really good for both standard office work as well as gaming. 2.4Ghz+BT ✅ battery life: 43 hours apparently. I don’t generally use the the ANC or lights though but I use it every day and 43 hours sounds right. For other features I liked: boom mic with auto-mute when it’s upward. Dual/concurrent connection between wireless and BT for easy switching between my phone and computer. Can use them at the same time as charging them. ANC (use it in the office). Optional wired connection (for me this is so I can use them in the office if the battery dies and I can’t miss a call). I’ve had them for years now. Needed to replace the cushions on the band and that was relatively easy. The tech parts are still working perfectly.

Quantum 810 or 910 I have an older pair of these and they work and sound great. The black pad outer layer does flake off but doesn’t impact usability. I’ve recommended to multiple friends and they use them as well.

I bought it. Really comfy. A little clamp aroudn the ear, but you get used to it. Soundwise, I wasn't sure at first. You really need to give it time to get used to the audio. It's not bad. Not at all. It's quite warm. The trebble is not his biggest strength, but it's not bad. They're bass heavy (for me). I usually put the bass at max with Dolby Atmos and here, it's at the middle. For music, if you listen to songs made by The Weekend to give you an idea, you will like the headset. For rock, meh. They're not made for this. For gaming, I tried some single player games. They're good. Quite great. Compared to the Asus Rog Delta 2, the audio isn't neutral. That pair can pack a punch. ANC, i'm at a cafe right now. They won't block people talking around even with music unless your music is a little loud. It's still better than the Bang and Olufsen Portal's ANC or the JBL Quantum's. Overall, wait for a sale and you might not be disappointed. I like them, but I need more time before deciding if I send them back or not. Didn't try the mic yet.

I just listed off 3 brands and 1 headset. JBL Quantums are good, Sony has good ones. HyperX has gone down hill
