Jamesdonkey J2 (hotswap version) or Akko 5075B VIA with Outemu Silent Peach switches. [More](https://github.com/ArgentStonecutter/keyboards/blob/main/via-boards.md)...
OK, here's half a dozen I have on hand and kept: * Redragon k717 Pro - a handsom tiny board that's smol and cheap and very fine. Switches are hard to pull out tho. * YMDK DK61 - About the middle of the range, it's also smol but so so versatile and the wooden case is smashing. An adventurous choice. [Mine](https://imgur.com/OJAqBwv) * XVX MU68 - Another slightly larger wooden board * Akko 5075B VIA - A budget plastic 75% that's just all around competent. * Glencreag WK84 - A midrange 75%, another wooden boy. * Womier SK87 - A premium aluminum board for a budget price.
> and from the Reddit wiki the only trusted keyboard vendor is apparently redragon Um, that would be counterfactual. Their software is kind of limited and old and creaky. They have released a few QMK boards that are rather nice, the k717 is an excellent little 60%, but apart from the k717, k714, and k742 they're still using legacy drivers. The otherwise meh Royal Kludge has turned around and released new QMK/VIA versions of the RK61, R65, R75, and R87. I would recommend Akko/Monsgeek. And I would recommend ordering through Amazon no matter who you go with. Yunzii has some good boards, or Womier or Weikav. Some nice 75% QMK/VIA hotswap boards: * [Monsgeek M1 v5](https://www.amazon.com/MONSGEEK-M1-Topographic-Hot-swappable-Side-Printed/dp/B0FH6LKTST) ($105) This is basically the same board but in an aluminum case. * [Akko 5075B VIA](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0FLDJZPH9) ($60 barebones) This is what it is. Yes, it's a lovely option. * [YMDK YMD75](https://ymdkey.com/collections/75-diy) * ($64-$110 diy) A family of DIY boards and parts, you can get the PCB, PCB and case, also somewhat interchangeable with some KPRepublic parts. Wired only. * [Inland Gaming MK Pro 75](https://www.microcenter.com/product/664376/inland-gaming-mk-pro-75-barebones-keyboard) * (~~$85~~ $40 barebones, in-store only) An older QMK/VIA wired board like a cheaper M1, currently on clearance. * [Womier RD75](https://www.amazon.com/Womier-RD75-Pro-Mechanical-Swappable/dp/B0DG82QD1X) ($95 w/ coupon) Another aluminum 75%, I'm not a huge fan of the blocker on the right. * [Kiiboom Loop75](https://www.amazon.com/KiiBoom-Loop-75-Structure-Mechanical/dp/B0D62RNXXM) * ($85 w/ coupon) This one has a very dashing split case, very much like the M1. * [Womier WD75](https://www.amazon.com/Womier-Mechanical-Swappable-Translucent-Keycaps-POM/dp/B0DT8SP79R) * (wood! $96) * [Glencreag WK84](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DYDM9N49) * (wood! $95 w/ coupon) These are compact boards, no knob, but the wooden case is \*chef's kiss*. The Glencreag is wired only but you can get it from their own website for $70 right now. * [Redragon K715](https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-K715-Programmable-Mechanical-Dedicated/dp/B0DKXLDJ24) * ($32.50) Cheap and wired, but a surprising QMK offering from a company with a lot of lousy proprietary boards. * [Royal Kludge RK R75 QMK/VIA](https://www.amazon.com/RK-ROYAL-KLUDGE-R75-Mechanical/dp/B0CWGR5KM9) * ($51 with coupon) Another surprise move, and tri-mode.
I got the 5075B VIA when it was on special, and it's pretty smashing.
0. Who said we weren't insane. 2. Only the cheapest boards or boutique DIY boards don't have RGB. 3. All magnetic boards are linear. It's one of the problems with magnetic boards. 4. You can get silent switches like the Outemu Silent Yellow Jade that are ASMR-quiet but nicely tactile. 5. I'm a wired stan myself. :) 7. Aha, here are some boards that are particularly European: * Sharkoon Skiller SGK50, under EUR100 for the plastic cased version, 60%, 75%, or 96%, available ISO-DE or barebones, QMK firmware and the source is in the repo already so you don't need a JSON file. * The wooden cased version of the above, EUR160 on up. More than you're budgeting but wooden cases are so nice. * Dark Project Terra Neuvo/Terra Nuestra, Aluminum 75%, kind of a dark horse, nobody seems to know anything about it but it looks very good on paper. QMK firmware, VIAL configuration. * Hator Rockfall 3, a QMK/VIA TKL from Ukraine. Then there's the best-in-class Akko 5075B VIA and Monsgeek M1 v5 VIA. They're sister companies so they're like plastic and aluminum versions of the same board. They should have ISO versions.
With a PS5 you want a keyboard that lets you turn off NKRO. The safest option there is QMK firmware, but the only manufacturer with QMK firmware on a magnetic board is Keychron and they have disabled 6KRO support in recent firmware updates. So a magnetic board would be a risk. On Ali Express I have mostly gotten 60% universal PCBs and cases like the Y&R 6095 and the YMDK DK61. * https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804503651503.html * https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805636824523.html * https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807595731218.html And cases: * https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806679743340.html * https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2251832568535422.html The Rule60 is a very nice complete 60% board with an acrylic case I've been looking at: * https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256808073127468.html For larger boards, you can't go wrong with the Akko 5075 VIA or Monsgeek M1 VIA * https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256808543685563.html * https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807755427727.html
Assembling a barebones into a complete board is not hard, it's like a kind of boring Lego kit. For a PS5 where you're going to set it in your lap, I would recommend the Akko 5075 VIA. If you like tactile switches the Akko Creamy Purple Pro are good. I don't know enough about linear switches to really advise you on them.
Anything with QMK firmware, it's 2026, there's so many great keyboards with QMK firmware it seems a shame to put up with proprietary firmware restrictions and weirdness. Keychron: I have a K2 Pro and it's a lovely tank. I have a couple of J2s and have been hacking on the firmware. The Q and V have had quality problems and if they start losing keystrokes a few months in the support is completely pants, abusive. Akko: Monsgeek M1/M2 v5 VIA or Akko 5075 VIA. Magnetic: Keychron K or J series. They're the only QMK magnetic option other than Sunder who are even more always sold out than Keychron. Electromechanical: Glencreag WK84 or Womier WD75 because wood is such a lovely case material. Akko 5075B EDIT Sorry, typo. Meant 5075B, not 9075B
There is a white variant, I'm currently using one as my daily driver! https://akkogear.eu/products/5075b-plus-via-iso-mechanical-keyboard I too gave up on finding a full sized keyboard with everything I wanted, so bought a standalone wireless numpad that I bring out when I need it, and put away for more desk real estate when I don't
Can anything beat the Akko 5075B for $60? - VIA supported - 75% - 2 lb carry weight - Tri Mode Connectivity
Hey thanks for the great suggestions, again lol. My feeling is the Akko with some stabilizer lube and maybe some other light mods. If I happen to dislike it for some reason, it's very easy to get a return where I'm at now.
There are far better alternatives than Glorious. This is coming from someone who's first build was a GMMK Pro, the first version of this keyboard. I had to purchase a seperate flex kit from them and finish it off with new stabs in order to make it sound and feel relatively decent. Despite buying the board AFTER the overlubing issues were fixed, I still got one with insanely sticky stabs. I just replaced them with durock V3 stabs but I had to file down the polycarbonate plate to get them to fit. The overall build was over 300 dollars, including the price of the top frame, flex kit, new stabs, and new switches and caps. Compare this to a several other keyboards I bought for way less and sounded and felt much better out the gate. I have a GK Gamakay SN75, Akko 5075B, and Batknight BK75, and all of them sound and felt better for the price they were at. And the best part is they came complete at less than 100-110 usd. The gmmk barebones I bought was 134 usd and didn't have switches or caps. Don't buy from these gaming companies unless value for money is truly just not a concern.
I bought an AKKO 5075B and it’s been lovely. The stock switches I have come to find are not great quality, so I picked up some new switch and now it feels just right. Plus it’s quite easy to sound mod if you’re up for that. Hot-swappable board and does WiFi, USB and Bluetooth. The software is usable if you need to remap keys. It also comes with a few additional key caps (I swapped the home button for the screen shot button key cap and remapped it).
Just find any keyboard with rapid trigger switches. You can easily feel better responsivness in games with a lot of movement like ffxiv. I have and recommend Drunkdeer a75 but now there should be a lot of cheap options now. Probably any cheap chinese keyboard with rapid trigger from aliexpress would be good. I got akko 5075b plus on aliexpress and it's very good although it's not rapid trigger keyboard.
I don't recommend Logitech mouse, I had 2 and both got double-click issue exactly after a year. I'm currently using Pulsar x2a and Akko 5075b for kb.
