I'll have an Aula F108 available in about 2 weeks if you're down for that. 7k. https://preview.redd.it/cw11t0kn5x3f1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=a08bb14d128fcf825ed5cf2788bd8814f06b6535
Aula f108/f108 pro There's probably other options but this is the only one I've used in this price range and it is quite good. Avoid buying from epomaker. Buy from somewhere else.
I'd go with the Aula F99 or F108, better value options
Spyware is a stretch and it sounds & feels better
Note that the skygive keyboard is membrane not mechanical. The aula is hot-swap mechanical, meaning every key has its own spring and housing and metal contacts, and these spring housings (or switches as they're called) can be swapped out to one you prefer. If you want long term durability and good typing sensation, mechanicals are the way to go. The downside is they're heavier and tend to be more expensive.
I tried Aula F108 and Epomaker HE 75. The build quality is really good and good value. Nothing to complain for a 80 USD keyboard. However, I found Aulaβs LCD on the keyboard shows Chinese at the first place. I needed to play it around and finally found a way to switch it to English. As for the HE75, I returned it. I love HE keyboard but I donβt want to download software anymore. Prefer web based solution now. I would say those China brands offer great value keyboards. But I donβt know how long those boards will last. My Aula performs pretty well. Just the manual is also full of Chinese and I need to find my way out by using Google translate
you'll be pleased to know that bluetooth doesn't even work on my keyboard! I wonder if there's a firmware update or idk what happened to it... I can't handle bluetooth latency either, but I might wanna use it on my tablet. but I can'tttt. (I got a different device than the one I tested at the shop, same model but different physical object, the one I tested didn't show up in bluetooth either)
Go on aliexpress and get an aula f108 it has hot swappable switches both 3 and 5 pin can be used. Its a steal for the price. Full n-key rollover, led, wired and wireless via wifi or bluetooth.
Same π The mechkeyboard sub recommends against keychron due to a quality control decline over the last 1-2 years and terrible customer service, I'd look into Aula F108 (or PRO version) for a 2nd option (regularly recommended by others, and switches come with RGB diffusers)
Iβm finding the f108 not for me either. Thereβs so many light ribbons. I want something a bit smaller with less RGB.
I wouldn't worry about coding a keyboard.. more stuff that you do once, say NEAT, then never do/use again. It's a keyboard... how well I type on it is the most important thing and this keyboard/bed/keycaps is wonderful! Especially for the price... don't worry about all the other stuff... you'll never use it!!
The Aula F series you're looking at have Tri-mode (2.4ghz/BT/Wired) connectivity. So yes he can connect it wired, also use it wireless if needed. I have the F108 it's a really nice board for the price. Are you certain he wants a 65% size? 75% seems to be the new king of size/format for gaming, since you get your F-row back up top and it doesn't impact mouseing space. Just a thought. Edit. What exactly did you mean by "he likes customizable"? The F75 will be hot swappable meaning you can change key caps, switches, stabs, but... It doesn't have VIA so you don't have the ability to customize what keys do what from a software side as easily. Aula has their own software but it's kinda booty in comparison to VIA.
Hey, I'm in a similar situation. I have a Ducky 75% wired board for gaming but wanted something full size to fill in the work/productivity role. Specifically I wanted truly full size (no mini zero key on the num pad) & wireless so it was easy to set aside when it's game time. After a bunch of research I have the Epomaker x Aula F108 & Keychron V6 Max on my desk in a bit of a side by side. One is likely going back to the store, spoiler it's probably gonna be the Keychron. Both keyboards have very solid build quality, gasket mounted design, 2x adjustable height kickstand. The Keychron is marginally quieter but the kickstands feel super cheap in comparison, like they will break easily, and the entire board has a lot more flex. Both have very similar specs. 3 mode connectivity, 1000hz polling in 2.4ghz, anti-ghosting etc etc... The Keychron is QMK/VIA and has much better software via their launcher for easy customization, that's probably it's biggest strength in comparing the two. The F108 has software, but it's not great. That being said I've been able to customize most of the things that were important to me on the F108 via the function keys. I appreciate a nice keyboard, but I'm not quite as picky about deep customization. Lack of QMK/VIA would be a deal breaker for some. My biggest issue with the Keychron is the god-awful OSA keycap profile they selected for the stock board. Hate them! That and the price. It's simply more expensive while not offering any stand out features for me. So if you're like me, you're much better off buying a barebones V6 Max + Switches + A set of Cherry profile keycaps.... At which point the F108 is now an even better value in comparison. If you're torn between the F108 & the Pro version: With the Pro you get double the battery life (up to 8000mah), reaper switches as opposed to Greywoods, volume knob (Basic F108 still has volume keys), and the screen. The screen isn't ground breaking, but having the battery life indicator, time, & current connectivity mode is a nice visual to me. I personally think the Pro adds enough QOL for the relatively small increase in price. If you have any other specific questions about one board or the other shoot, maybe I can answer them.
You can definitely find a nice board with a budget like that. What limits your choices is 100% layout. For me I also like 100%, full size zero on the number pad is nice for productivity. We must be in the minority. Keychron Q6 Max - would tick all the boxes + way way more features you didn't even ask for from a reputable company. Epomaker x Aula F108 - while it isn't aluminum is also a very nice board if you'd like to save a few bucks. Longevity is the only question mark with this brand as they're fairly new. Reviews are great, I love mine, wish I could hop in a time machine and tell you what is will be like in 5 years though.
I enjoy my Epomaker x Aula F108 (not the size you're looking for I know), but I'll admit I like my Keychron V3 Max more. I think it was worth the slight bump in price for the Keychron if they're available in your area.
