Based on 1 year's data from Feb 15, 2026 How it works
keychron, monsgeek, evo80 from qwertykeys used a keychron board for years with hours of general use and gaming
evo80/evo 75 but if you were looking for something with the dedicated macro keys there are not really options like that on the l3 he is really limited to linear switches. there are few tactile switch options because whats the point of adjustable actuation if you cant change where the bump is and i would say it doesn't do much for regular everyday typing. and it really does depend for gaming would you really need it for games if you play like slower paced single player games
not a ton of boards with clicky switches out of the box these days if you would be fine with lego like assembly evo80 and swap out the switches for clicky switches. it is a trimode board that is a tkl
The first thing you'll probably want to decide on is if you need ISO-UK layout (with the big enter key), or the ANSI American layout. If you are fine with an ANSI layout, you definitely have more options. As for gaming, that really depends. If you are really into competitive PvP games, than you might be more interested in something with HE switches. These are magnetic switches instead of mechanical. Personally, I prefer regular mechanical switches. But HE switches are definitely more gaming focused. If you are fine with mechanical switches you might want to check out something like the Evo80. You can get in either ANSI or ISO layout and is generally a really well regarded keyboard. Mechmods has both layout options for sale ([ANSI](https://www.mechmods.co.uk/collections/keyboards/products/evoworks-evo80-keyboard-ansi-layout?variant=46286231699679) and [ISO](https://www.mechmods.co.uk/collections/keyboards/products/evoworks-evo80-keyboard-iso-layout?variant=54937039307130)). I also believe it works both wireless and wired. There are other options out there though, so it really depends on what you are looking for. Like if you really want RGB options, you might want to look at a Nuphy Gem80. But that only has ANSI layouts and I think they are currently sold out of there usually included switches and keycaps. Keychron is also generally well regarded. For the TKL layout there is the Q3 Max. But they have a few different options, including HE keyboards. So you might want to browse their options.
Bridge 75 plus has a bigger battery, per key RGB, an FR4 plate vs PC, and more dampening foam for better acoustics. For best out of the box, either the Rainy 75 or Evo75, listen to Youtube sound tests for both if acoustics matter to you - all the boards listed are hot swap, so you can swap switches to your liking for better type feel, actuation force, and sound. Be it linear, tactile, or clicky. In short - Evo75 is the more premium option of those listed, so if they're around the same price, I'd spring for the Evo. Easier disassembly, better internals, tons of colour options etc. There's also the Evo80 if you'd prefer an 80% layout, with slightly better build quality, and no raised front lip like on the 75.
I'm looking to get a nice sounding prebuilt like the evo80 but I'm used to "gaming" and now he switches so 2mm actuation is too high for me. Tl;dr is there a board exactly like the evo80 in basically every way but with switches with 1.5mm or less actuation? Are there any boards under $160 that are tkl or smaller and have a lower front height for a regular profile keyboard (like the evo80, its not a deal breaker if its more like the rainy75 for example but I would prefer it to be lower without being low profile) with switches with 1.5mm or less actuation distance?
Every keyboard I've owned has been between 1.5 and 1mm even before hall effect so I didn't realise it wasn't really a thing on non-gaming keyboards. In which case I'll just get the evo80 since I like everything else about it and see if I can get used to 2mm and if not I'll swap out the switches.
Hey guys! I just bought my boyfriend the Evoworks 80 in the anodized ink color way with HMX azure switches and I am in LOVE with the sound of it and would love to get one for myself! The only thing I’m not thrilled about are the keycaps and would love to change them to an all-black backlit set, preferably PBT with clear lettering to see the RGB more. I was looking at this set: https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/products/vortex-black-backlit-126-key-oem-profile-double-shot-pbt-keycap-set and this set: https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/products/ducky-black-seamless-backlit-108-key-oem-profile-double-shot-pbt-keycap-set Would either of these sets be compatible with the Evoworks 80 considering the Evoworks is a TKL keyboard? Would anyone have any other recommendations that fit what I’m looking for? Are there things I should look for specifically for compatibility? It’s my understanding that any MX keycaps are compatible (but I am not sure which brands are). Thank you in advance!
Sadly Steelseries have gone downhill since the first Apex generation imho. If you want a good feeling mechanical keeb that's still TKL you could look into the Evo80, it's a prebuilt custom board around the same price as an Apex TKL
Evo75, evo80, crush80, bridge75 and rainy75 would all be decent options in this price bracket if you want prebuilt. Personally I’d lean towards the Evo75 because I think it’s basically the best pre-built you can buy right now, but I know there have been some problems with the ISO layout.
Don't buy overpriced crap from the big PC peripheral brands. Try Evo80 or Evo75. Probably the best pre-built keyboards on the market. Bridge75 and Crush 80 Reboot Pro are also great options.
I have an evo80 and think it is great. If I were to have to choose again, and since I already have some keycaps and switches I would use I would probably get a neo80 since it wouldn't make sense to pay for keycaps and switches I wouldn't use. But if you don't plan on switching that stuff out the evo80 makes sense. I got mine from Milktooth.com. Just checked, looked like they have at least a few of the colors in stock and actually have it 5% off and free shipping don't know if we are allowed to give shout outs about specific vendors, but I do think Milktooth is on the list of good vendors, my experience with them has been great.
Evo80 for the win.
