I have a membrane keyboard that has served me reliably since we first got it. The Logitech G510. I have really enjoyed how large the keyboard is. I haven't really ever used its macro keys, except for within the last few months, when I started using them as "buttons", where I could map them as additional, keyless objects for my flight Sims. I also have really liked that the backlight / illuminated keys are not just (or don't appear to be) clear keys with dark tint, but are rather 2 different plastics, so one is opaque, and the other transparent. I've worn the coloring off of the wrist-rest, but it's the only keyboard, that even after 15 years of heavy daily use, hasn't had the key caps fade, or the lettering wear to nothing. The Home Row locators have gone smooth, but the keys remain lettered. I would like to switch to something mechanical, because the membrane has finally begun to fail (keys are soft on raising back up, will sometimes 'stick' low, sitting beneath the other key caps.) I am sure there's a daily thread or FAQ, but I'd like to replace it woth something that can offer the same longevity, with those main features. A powerful back light, keycaps that won't fade with use, and a large, full keyboard. I don't know a lot about mechanical keyboards, but avoiding something obnoxiously "clicky" would be a plus. A nice detent, but I would like to avoid the tippy-tappy that comes from some key types of mechanical keyboards. (I've gotten used to the feel of Membrane, so something similar to it would be very nice.) Any suggestions for someone such as myself?
r/MechanicalKeyboards • /r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer - November 19, 2025 ->I’m in the same boat. I had a G510 for the past 12yrs that’s barely hanging on. I don’t need the screen or macro keys but I really like the volume wheel. I’ve never had mechanical and individual RGB’s seem cool. I picked up a Corsair K70 RGB Pro which is currently on sale for $100. I researched and read that cherry mx brown switches are a good place to start. I’ve had it for about 2 weeks and it’s taking some getting used to. It’s definitely a huge improvement, I’m just not a huge fan of the mx browns. I picked up a GMMK 3 barebones a few days ago for $80 and am currently waiting for an Akko switch sampler and pudding keycaps to arrive. I’ll most likely return the Corsair. It’s actually great for $100, I just wish I picked one with different switches or it was hotswap.
r/keyboards • Looking for a new high-end gaming keyboard. ->I like my glorious gmmk 3. It does have a numpad, but will still be smaller than your keyboard. I had a Logitech g510 with macros on left and big numpad on the right, and this keyboard feels small even with the numpad.
r/keyboards • Gaming Keyboard Recommendation ->I'm not a keyboard enthusiast so my stuff, when I splurged on it, are very old. So I have good news and bad news. I use a combination of Logitech G510 Keyboard alongside my Cooler Master ControlPad Mechanical Keypad. I used the G510 left side macro keys for playing my classes until I later picked up the ControlPad. The new Keypad was set up to replace the normal keys like 1 to =, and F1 to F12. Then I have easier access via the Keypad and arranged my HUD to replicate the keypad in the corner. Confuses people who see my HUD till I tell them why the algamation of skills/actions are set up that way in the corner.
