Mechanical low profile maybe your best bet. Nuphy air75 v3 and lofree flow / flow lite 84
Nope. Thicker doesn't mean longer travel. It's thicker because the board is obviously consists of the chassis, the pcb, the battery, the plate, the switches and the keycap. The only travel comes from the switches. By factory specification, total travel of 3.2mm and 1.7 actuation point is very SHORT. Your apple keyboard is a membrane, a membrane cannot give fast and elaborated key strokes like mechanical keys. https://preview.redd.it/s8edx98uk3zf1.png?width=1507&format=png&auto=webp&s=2d700a4e4623de61331379db2b174a8274934060
Keystrokes are registerd faster if the actuation point is shorter and your keyboard transmits higher polling rate (AKA low latency, little to no delay). The Nuphy Air75 v3 only takes 1.7mm of distance to register a keystroke, and a good 1000hz polling rate, your Apple keyboard is a complete joke compare to this one. No one game on an Apple keyboard for a reason. And where in the hell do you get the number 4.7mm and 12mm, from where? 4.7mm what and 12mm what exactly? Don't you understand keyboard's thickness doesn't equal travel distance?
I've been in the same spot as you lately and just made the plunge and got a nuphy air75 v3 for 130 on Amazon warehouse but I looked and the nuphy website has them cheaper for black friday at the moment with free shipping. After all the research my choice was between the nuphy and the wobkeys rainy75 which seemed like the best choice but I went with the quieter more slim and cheaper board.
Mac user here who went down this exact rabbit hole. 🍎 **1. Cross off the HE (Wooting/Magnetic) boards immediately.** You said you 'very, very rarely' game. HE switches are linear (no bump) and hyper-sensitive. Coming from a Magic Keyboard (which has a sharp tactile snap), HE switches will feel like typing on a wet sponge. It is tech you do not need. **2. Important Correction:** You listed the **IQUNIX Magi75** under 'Slim Keyboards.' **It is not slim.** It is a standard-height mechanical board. *However*, that isn't a bad thing. I switched from a Magic Keyboard to an aluminum IQUNIX (Zonex 75), and while it took a week to get used to the height (get a wrist rest), the build quality feels like an Apple product. It is heavy, solid aluminum—not plastic. **3. The 'Chinese' Fear:** In the mechanical keyboard world, 'Chinese' doesn't mean cheap. It usually means Enthusiast. * **Razer/Logitech/Corsair:** often use cheap ABS plastic caps and non-standard layouts. * **IQUNIX/Nuphy/Keychron:** use PBT keycaps, aluminum cases, and open-source software (QMK/VIA) that doesn't need to run in the background. **My Advice:** Since you have a huge budget: * **If you MUST stay Slim:** Get the **Nuphy Air75 V2** (ISO). It feels closest to the Magic Keyboard. * **If you want Premium Quality:** Get the **IQUNIX** or a **Keychron Q-Series** (ISO). Just make sure you get **Tactile** switches (Browns/Bananas), not Reds, to mimic that Apple tactile bump.
I think I have you beat: - Kick 75 low & high profile - Halo 65 black & white - Halo 75 v2 blue - Halo 96 v2 black & white - Air 60 v2 black & white - Air 75 v2 white - Air 75 v3 white That’s just the Nuphy boards… 😵💫😓
Impressive Nuphy set of keyboards! Must say that I love the quality of my Air75v2 and the Halo75v2. The Air75v2 was my first keyboard after years and years typing on Logitech MX keyboards. That triggered me into the hobby. A lot happened in 1.5 years.. I got 12 keyboards now and prefer regular mechanical keyboards over low profile ones and moved from deep thocky to clack... Favorite now is my Neo65CU. I've taken a break from buying more... but you never now what comes along next ;)
I'm tempted to try Berry keycaps on my Air75 V3. Finding the default keycaps very good, actually, and fingers naturally land in the right place on them. But what if Berry is even better...
My colleague's Kick 75 got me interested in Nuphy. I tried his with brown switches, then ordered my Air75 V3 with brown switches, then changed to blush switches that I enjoy even more. From a distance Kick 75 absolutely catches the eye, but up close I would say Air75 V3 has a slight edge due to its premium materials in how it looks and feels, so I recommend it more. Typing-wise, as I recall, they felt very similar to each other, but it is difficult to compare since we now have different switches. I like that Air75 V3 has End and PrintScreen keys. It felt odd to have Home, but not End on Kick as I use Windows sometimes too, not just mac. At the same time, almost a month in, I am still (infrequently) missing the PgDown key on Air75 V3. Kick 75 may potentially be easier for that. But the arrow keys are in the corner on both, obviously, so very easy to use. And all the keys in the main area feel absolutely natural and easy to reach and press from the base position.
I can recommend NuPhy keyboards. I own a Air75 V2 for some time now and I really have no complaints.
I have a diy KBD75 v3 with silent boba u4 switches but wanted something a little more tactile but I’m too lazy to build another kb so I got a NuPhy Air75 v3 with brown switches. Feels very premium and the software works well. I was debating this or the Lofree Flow 2 but I kind of liked the looks of this one better and they had it on sale. I believe they have a gaming version of this keyboard that uses magnetic switches as well. Edit: misspelled kb name and forgot to mention that it is low profile.
I pretty much almost have this same collection and have the Air75 V3 - I absolutely love it with the blush nano switches! Can’t wait for the Air96 V3!
Very nice me as a owner only one Nuphy air75 v2 my next purchase is going to beNuphy air75 he =) and how do you like yours ?
