I've been rocking every version of the Nostomo, n52, n52te, and Tartarus since it was originally created by Belkin. I can't play a game without them!

The Zboard was fun, but so mushy it was hard to play on. There were certain keys on some of the boards that you could hardly tell you were pressing. I also had the Nostromo N52 back in the day and I loved that thing. I have considered doing a DIY 3D printed version with mechanical switches, but that's a lot of CAD work that I don't have the energy for.

I started gaming and PC gaming in the 80s. I knew then at 8 years old that the keyboard would never be a great gaming peripheral. You can get used to it for sure, and I did, but it will always be an unergonomic clusterfuck for gaming. I saw a Belkin Nostromo in the mid 2000s and it was the device I had been envisionning for 15 years. Thumb movement frees all your fingers for rapid and precise mashing, I could jump-crounch in diagonal without gymnastics and could play all day again without pain in my wrists and joints. It can be argued that WASD can be a few ms faster in competitive FPS, but no one reading this will ever play anywhere near a level where it'd make a difference. That said, in the Tartarus' case mapping the joystick to keys accomplish sometimes similar making at least your thumb a lot more versatile. Still, I can't imaging how I would be running circles around people while mashing skills and changing weapons without a thumbstick. It is always very clear in the jerky way most people move that they have trouble doing so. I'm also a big fan of repeat on hold. It's the reason I can still play MMOs comfortably for hours way in my 40s. Heck, I have been raiding for 20 years holding a button down with some customized macros. I have not gamed on a keyboard in nearly 20 years and would likely choose castration over having to do so again.
