I switched to mechanical but didn’t want to break the bank, so I got a $60 mechanical keyboard that’s held up remarkably well considering it’s a daily use item and I am quite clumsy with drinks. I’ve had it three years now and it still looks and behaves as if brand new and that’s with me having spilt a number of drinks on it and also being a nail girly with long nails and someone whose always using cuticle oil and hand lotion. Idk if we’re allowed to link but it’s a Redragon K556 and like I said it was ~$60. I was replacing cheap membrane ones constantly so by comparison it’s already paid for itself. Also I use the brown switches but I’m thinking of changing to something clickier.

Redragon has a couple of bezelless keyboards with aluminum cases I like specifically because they won't attract.....things.....living inside them. Keyboards get pretty nasty after a while. The K556 (wired) and the K556 Pro (Wireless). These can be cleaned easily and there's no gaps for crud to invade. I don't game really, I use the wireless one for work. They both came with mush keys IMO, which I replaced with Kailh Bamboo (55gf) switches, which are better, but I think I'd still like more thonk, so I dunno, I think I'd still like something more. The wired Kb is fine. The Wireless one needs to be recharged every 3 days or so of office use, it hibernates when not being used. The wired one is probably brighter overall because it's not trying to save on the battery. Battery appears to be non-replaceable, dunno it's lifespan. They were both around $60 on their own. I don't bother with using the software. I don't need fancy features.

I bought a RedDragon K556 back in 2020 for like $60 and it's worked perfectly ever since. They are probably the best budget brand.

The Redragon K556 is apparently hotswappable so you could buy one & swap out the switches. Alternatively, you could buy one with brown switches in already.

I have the K556 and its been going strong for 3or 4 years (I think). Switches are indeed swappable, but it already has Khail browns and they are fine to me. The body is nice and heavy too. ARGB that can be controlled via there app. Although I use OpenRGB.

r/buildapcBought a Redragon keyboard, starting to regret my decision. Suggestions on new keyboard?

I bought a Redragon K556 PRO and reviews looked great. Price point was good, affordable, but not bottom of the barrel. So it should be good. For the most part. The metal casing is nice, the buttons feel great, nice strong colors and light schemes when they work. But I'm starting to hate it. I bought a new keyboard because I wanted wireless. My keyboard before was great, but my pc sits on the same desk as my work pc and the cord wasn't quite long enough to be comfortable. My issues with this keyboard are a few. \-The downloaded program sucks. It allows you to change the RBG style and how the colors change, but only while it's plugged in, and even then, the program HAS to stay open for them to take affect. I don't care too much about the color schemes, but the music matching one is cool and would love to use it, but it's not feasible to use it if it has to be plugged in. And this is the ONLY thing the program lets you do. No key binds, macros, nothing else. \-It constantly turns itself off to 'save power', leaving me groping around in the dark to hit a button to get it to turn back on. Not too much of an issue, but in a dark room, it sucks. AND it happens every 20-30 seconds. Regardless if it's plugged in or not. On top of that, there's a short 2 second delay before a key will register. So if I'm reading something or doing something for work, or watching a long cutscene in a game and have to jump into combat, it's annoying. not end of the world, but annoying as hell. I am unable to change any of this. I've changed settings in my device manager to prevent turning off to save power, but apparently this is in the keyboard itself, not my pc. So I can't prevent it. I paid around $80 I think, and I will take the loss and just spend more to buy something better. What wireless backlit keyboards are yall using? I'll pay more for something that is used and trusted by more people. I mostly game, so that's my main use for the keyboard. Hell, I'll even just figure out a USB cable extension and go back to my old keyboard if I must.
