*I’ve been in this hobby for a long time like many of you, and over the last year or so I think the peripheral industry has felt pretty boring as far as mice go. In the past, a modular mouse had been attempted by a brand named Ninox with the Astrum, which was a bit of a mess to say the least. Then many years later, Orbital with their first mouse Pathfinder made its first appearance on 03/26/2024. Orbital in their own words, consider their customers to be their friends, not to make a product merely for profit, but for their passion for the peripheral industry.* *“To help their passion reach new frontiers”. There was fear that Orbital could have just been all talk and no product to show for it, but the day of release is finally here. The Orbital Pathfinder is now in the hands of the people who’d been waiting so long for this day. From the start, when I’d seen that first video of the team introducing themselves, I knew something just felt right here. There was no guarantee, but there was hope, there was a passion for the industry you could only feel in so many other people deep into this hobby. With 3000+ possible configs, this is just the beginning. While Orbital takes one small step for mouse-kind, we can only hope the rest of the industry is looking to the stars.* ***ORBITAL WEBSITE:*** https://orbitalworks.co/ **Hand Size:** 18 x 10 **Grip:** Pincer Claw ***[PHOTO GALLERY](https://imgur.com/a/kR82Tnq)*** ***[Additional Photos](https://imgur.com/a/ORgmQ6D)*** **Packaging:** The Pathfinder packaging upon receiving it, first reminded me of the Zowie shape testing kit, while not nearly as massive in size, it’s quite a long box but remains low in its profile. For those who’s yet to receive a Pathfinder, the naming schemes can seem quite alien, as there’s so many configurations, they had to go with single letter type “codenames”. The packaging includes paperwork giving you a good rundown of how it all works though. My personal configuration at the moment is APM-220 with the thickest side spacers on both sides. I will now list all the pieces included with the Pathfinder. Left Side - Latch: L Claw: C Pinch: P Average: A Side Spacers: 2 thin, 2 thick. Right Side - Average: A Pinch: P Claw: C Right Hand: R Xtra Claw: X Slash: S Wave: W Back Plate - Low Hump: L Medium Hump: M High Hump: H Right Hand Hump: R 2 back hump spacers M4/M4 side buttons M,L sizes to accommodate thicker/thinner side profiles.
r/MouseReview • The Orbital Pathfinder Review | The End Has No End ->**Mouse Packaging:** Includes the mouse, cable and 8K dongle. 1 set of X-Raypad Obsidian skates,1 set of X-Raypad Obsidian Pro air skates, and 1 set of Pure PTFE skates. **Sensor:** The Orbital Pathfinder uses a PAW3950DM paired with a Nordic nRF52840 MCU, capable of 8K wireless. Tested at both 1k, 4k, and 8k. I did note that occasionally when I'm gone from my PC and come back that I've found the mouse not responding for some reason. Usually turning the mouse on/off again fixes this though. At the time of writing this review, I was unable to find any new firmware updates, as its been the same since release to my knowledge. There are however rumblings of a new FW dropping via Discord at some point. **Software:** I believe Orbital is working on a release for a web driver for the mouse but the software is required to be downloaded in order to change your settings. Though personally, I do prefer an offline software, as a opposed to an online web driver. It is still great to have options as always. The Pathfinder software appears very similar to that of the Darmoshark mice. It’s very basic, but allows you top change multiple things. The first tab allows you to change keybinds of your mouse. The second tab allows you to adjust DPI and polling rates. From 100-30000DPI, and polling from 125hz-8000hz. The third tab allows you to create macros. The fourth tab allows you to adjust LOD, enable/disable motion sync, or turn off/on esports mode, and adjust debounce time. **Modularity:** The Pathfinder’s coolest feature is being able to swap out back plates and sides with ease. I think the system they have made here works great. Once it's all assembled, it truly feels like a solid mouse; those pieces aren’t moving or going anywhere. I do wish, however, that a tool of some sort was included for pulling off the sides, as it doesn’t always feel great or easy to be prying at the sides to slide them off. I have noticed on my left side of the mouse that, depending on how I grip the mouse, the left side will move slightly.. This movement is maybe 0.5mm or even less than that. It does not affect my gameplay, but it is something I’ve noticed, and I do think the movement of the mechanism is intentional. If you intentionally grip a side piece and wiggle it up/down horizontally there is a very tiny amount of movement to allow easy removal of the pieces with how the mechanism works, but you don’t actually feel this movement in use. I’m unsure if it's just something with my unit, but based on what I’ve seen inside of the mouse, I may just have slightly more play in my side rails causing some kind of extra movement in the triangular shaped pillars of their catch system for the side pieces. **Buttons:** An important feature to note, is that you do have the ability to swap the optical switches for mechanical switches with a bit of soldering work. M1/M2 have low pre-travel and medium post-travel, with zero side play on the triggers. Side buttons have low pre-travel and medium post-travel. My closest thumb side button does seem a little wobbly/unsecured compared to the furthest one, as running my thumb along it I can feel the plastic tilting forward or back, as opposed to the furthest side buttons, which feel firm and in their place. I don’t think this issue is big enough to affect gameplay in use, though; it's just something I noticed, and I do feel it hurts the premium feel of the product only slightly. I never mentioned this to support, though, as I hadn’t noticed it until recently. It does appear that Orbital is aware of this though, as it was something of a first batch issue, and it seems like a tape mod can fix this for the time being. Upon first using my Pathfinder, I noticed my right trigger felt a bit creaky/squeaky. During this time, though, I was in contact with customer support, and they did provide a replacement M1/M2, which fixed this issue for me immediately. After a week or two of use, though, this disappeared on my old M1/M2 and became normal. I imagine the plastic trigger was rubbing against something and just needed a light amount of wear/use to go silent. Orbital does provide a 2-year warranty for cases such as this, though. In the case your M1/M2 has a squeak similar to mine, though, I would suggest giving it 1-2 weeks of intense use for it to dissipate as it has become a non-issue, but something I still thought was worth mentioning. **Scroll Wheel:** Using a TTC Gold encoder, the scroll wheel, to my surprise, is metal. I’ve always been a fan of metal scroll wheels, as I do think it can elevate the look and feel of a product. At first, I wasn’t sure about how the scroll wheel felt in terms of grip, but I do think it's grown on me, and I never had any issues with my finger slipping or misinputs. It was a solid scroll experience overall, and the middle click is light and spammable for easy use for in-game pings or binds.
r/MouseReview • The Orbital Pathfinder Review | The End Has No End ->**Shape/Coating:** There are so many configurations for this here that I will likely only focus on the configuration I use, which is APM220 including the two thickest side spacers. For me I was trying to replicate something similar in feel to the X2H but a little less wide/aggressive toward the back hump. I thought my configuration choice was interesting here because I’ve been known to prefer thinner mice, and my config here was around the thicker end in terms of grip width. I’m unsure if I will stick with this config long term, but I am enjoying it a lot at the moment. The coating for the Pathfinder feels quite good, a bit slippery if you have dry hands though, I’ve seen people compare this coating to the EGG white coating but I would probably say it's a little less grippy than that, still quite good though, the moment my hands start to sweat even a little bit my grip becomes locked in place and without issue. Definitely a solid coating here. **Sidenote:** For the side pieces I DO wish they extended a little further toward the front end of the mouse, as many of the side pieces combined with how short I like my mouse end up finding my ring/pinky finger resting on the very edges of the sides, but thankfully there’s no sharp edges to hurt you here, it’s all very smooth. I would say an extra length of 2-3mm extending toward the front end would be great here if possible. **Grips:** None included **Cable/Feet:** The included cable here feels solid while angled upward to reduce drag, and should provide a usable paracord-like experience. The included feet are great, you get many options from slow to fast, and I think the selection you get here is definitely top tier across both cloth and glass. **Weight:** My config is around 53-54g According to Orbital, the weight ranges from 52-55g depending on your chosen config. **Build Quality:** Despite so many pieces of this mouse being removable wirth all its different internal mechanisms, I think Orbital did an amazing job here. While I did list a few things I noticed with my unit, I think only one truly affected my game play, which was the M1/M2 creaking for click timing intensive games like Valorant, but as mentioned prior, it “should” stop with use based on my personal experience with the mouse, and support was quick in assisting me with a replacement M1/M2.
r/MouseReview • The Orbital Pathfinder Review | The End Has No End ->**Product Support:** Orbital provides in depth walkthrough videos on how to assemble and disassemble your Pathfinder which is great to see. This is not only good for DIY-folks but also great for repairs or buying and modding for new colorways Orbital plans to sell later. Orbital does also plan to sell new shape pieces on top of offering 3D printing files for community use, though this has yet to be seen, so I cannot confirm it until it happens. *So many things could have gone wrong here, but Orbital pulled through, delivering their product to the end. Picking up the torch where Ninox originally fell, Orbital created their own path of light for others to follow. I can’t imagine how difficult it was for a product like this to become reality, but I’m glad that somebody was able to do it, especially at the quality it was executed in. The possibilities are endless with Pathfinder, and I hope Orbital as a team never loses those smiles they showed, along with the spirit and fire they had to back it in those initial team introduction videos. Not just another faceless brand, but a team of dedicated enthusiasts looking to achieve what others have yet to accomplish.*
r/MouseReview • The Orbital Pathfinder Review | The End Has No End ->man i love orbital pathfinder but my wallet and my money hates it :(
r/MouseReview • I have a peripheral addiction AMA ->125 mm length and 56 mm width. You can use double spacer and makes it about 1 mm larger in both dimensions
r/MouseReview • The Orbital Pathfinder Review | The End Has No End ->Eventually we think we can make a 47-49 gram Pathfinder but that will require advances in PCB and MCU as well. Right now we are already about 54-56 grams and if you have our mouse you will see the structures is very optimized, we can make holes and save maybe a gram or two but we are not fans of holes. So where can you shave off 5 to 6 g? A lighter PCB can save you 3. And a smaller battery can save you another 3. But for that to work and has the same performance parameter you need an MCU that requires less energy. That should be coming out in the next few years. So it's not far off it's just not there now. And we are making the plug design public in the next few weeks so people can make their own grip module!
r/MouseReview • The Orbital Pathfinder Review | The End Has No End ->Most people find it comfortable, so there’s really no need to change things up. They would probably make a new color variation than make a shape that’s gonna satisfy a small portion of the community. That said, there are promising products like Orbital Pathfinder, or G-wolves with their clay kit. Even if those aren’t within your reach, you can still try things out with a grip tape. It’ll help with the positioning and the grip itself, letting you hold the move effortlessly.
r/MouseReview • My problem with most ambidextrous Mice ->Orbital pathfinder / superglide 2.0
r/FPSAimTrainer • Which mouse and mousepad are you currently using? ->I’ve tried a lot of big mice, currently I think the Teevolution Terra (G403) is the biggest mouse on the market atm. There’s also the orbital pathfinder, and it feels nice with the extensions, but it doesn’t reach the height of the G403 which I miss using it. The Pulsar Tenz mouse has a nice high back hump, but I found the side buttons and scroll wheel weirdly positioned and hard to use personally. The Zowie EC-1, Mchose G7, and Waizowl cloud are recommended often for large hands, but I own all and found them pretty small for my 21cm length hands. Your mileage may vary though.

r/MouseReview • My problem with most ambidextrous Mice ->sry for the mischaracterisation but these above aren't modular, but if u want something with modular switches then Incott does a lot of them. If u want even more modability then Orbital Pathfinder might be a great mouse to check out. *** You can use eloshapes for a rough idea of what u might like, Incott G24 and G23 [with PMW 3395 or 3950 sensor depending upon the variant] for example use hot swap switch mounts: TTC Gold Dustproof switches, these can be removed by hand. That is one part that will need desoldering on most mice. It's a very easy desolder job, any random repair technician could do it if u don't have a soldering iron. If we take a non modular mouse, for example ur wrist curl dumbell, you can actually do all of the above. Example: 1. I'd get (sensory boost's) stealth grip tape for G502 2. (X-ray pad)obsidian pro air donuts for mouse skate replacements 3. Kailh GM 4.0 [personal pref] to replace the stock Omrons, would disassemble by mouse using a teardown vid and take it to a smartphone repair tech, they have all the equipment needed to do it. 4. Switch to a glass pad or really fast mousepad since I'll be gliding over it using the Obsidian AP [pres. pref] 5. I personally would remove some weight from it using a dremel, totally good for most folks
r/MouseReview • What budget tri-mode mouse is the best right now? ->The orbital pathfinder can be built up to be pretty gigantic. https://www.eloshapes.com/mouse/compare?p=orbital-pathfinder-aam-222 With the high hump and all spacers, it can nestle up into my palm even with a fully extended fingertip grip. It's not cheap but I'm having a lot of fun trying out shapes. It's like getting 10 different mice for the price of 3.
r/MouseReview • In need of a mouse that fits big/long hands. ->Mine lasts a LOT longer than 2 days. It's pretty much directly affected by the polling rate, I use 1k and it last about 8 times longer than 8k.
r/MouseReview • Orbital Pathfinder Modular Mouse Review ->I would say in no particular order: - Orbital Pathfinder cause it has so much customisation for how I'm feeling on any given day. Don't feel like your usual claw grip is comfortable? No worries tear it apart and make an entirely different mouse out of the provided parts within 30 seconds - OP1 8k. Love this mouse it feels so snappy and so instant and a lot of my high scores on aim trainers have been set with the mouse however I cannot ever feel comfortable with it no matter the grip. I think it might be marginally too thin and too small but I put up with it cause it just seems to work - hitscan hyperlight. It's just a small, light weight well built, good click feel mouse with low click and sensor latency that just works. Fantastic smaller alternative if you still want a safeish shape that can be used with a variety of grip styles Runner up - VXE Mad R Major - feels quite similar to OP1 just wider at the front and less of a pronounced hump, no where near the same build quality but still similar in scores in game when testing. Just don't think it will be as durable long term but for how cheap it is I am not complaining
r/MouseReview • I have a peripheral addiction AMA ->Does there have to be an upside outside of fun? Hahaha Everyone is different but for me I have always been super adaptable so I can play on any sens within a certain range for example in valorant I can play ,between .12 and .22 1600 dpi and get the same score in aimlabs and perform consistently match to match I'm the same with sens, mouse, grip and mousepad so I just change based on how I'm feeling on any given day
r/MouseReview • I have a peripheral addiction AMA ->Mchose L7+ is my current main but probably the Viper V3 Pro since it's overall just fantastic for almost all shapes and grips. But if someone was only gonna buy one mouse out of all these? the Pathfinder easily, it just offers so much more than all the others.
r/MouseReview • I Currently Own Over 30 Mice, Send Help. AMA ->It becomes a subtle thing for them more towards the end but shape is always king. Many of the mice I got were because the shape was unique enough to justify it always. The OP18k I don't have anything else like in my list, the Mchose L7+ may seem close to some others, but the rear hump curves and taper from the top to a more narrow bottom is not emulated on any other mice the same way, the Scyrox V6, higher mid hump and harsher curves all around are only slightly done the same on the Series Two Pro which is a Viper Mini clone exactly, which out of all these I only have like one otherice even close to that shape. Generally it really depends on what you want and it becomes difficult to decide what matters and what doesn't unless you've either tried enough to know or don't care enough to just deal with whatever you got.
r/MouseReview • I Currently Own Over 30 Mice, Send Help. AMA ->Orbital Pathfinder + custom 3d printed sides and back to re-create shape. It's amazing type of mouse - modular base and de-attachable sides/back to be able create perfect mouse for everyone. @[Benneck123](https://www.reddit.com/user/Benneck123/) will publish parts for this type of mouse soon. [https://www.reddit.com/r/MouseReview/comments/1mj4o2j/next\_collection\_post\_of\_new\_orbital\_shape\_mods/](https://www.reddit.com/r/MouseReview/comments/1mj4o2j/next_collection_post_of_new_orbital_shape_mods/)
r/MouseReview • Microsoft Pro Intellimouse alternative? (gaming mouse) ->Listen man, if you’re unsure of your grip and your experience is with a large ergo mice like the basilisk/G502, you’re in for a rabbit hole chase of peripherals. IMO don’t listen to people here telling you your grip is claw relaxed or XYZ, because the truth is that your grip style changes with the mouse if you’re inexperienced. Try safe general shapes, such as the latest ergo ones (pulsar xlite crazy light, Vaxee NP-01S, logitech dex, etc) or general symmetrical ones (logitech superlight, razer viper V3, etc). My best advice is get rid of the notion that you need side buttons and learn to use the keyboard more, it will really open up your options. Second best advice, the Orbital pathfinder is likely the best choice for you right now because it will allow you to try EVERYTHING so that you really learn your grip/style, and it’s also a good quality light mouse. If you can stomach the initial price, it is worth it and probably will save you money long term.

r/MouseReview • Orbital Pathfinder - modular mouse, everyone's endgame?! ->What a stupid comment lmao. I bet you have 2 mice near your pc costing near or more than 200$. I just received mine and it’s super solid everywhere. Calling something a gimmick without even trying it is sad considering that just advanced the mouse market by 10 years lmao.
r/MouseReview • Orbital Pathfinder - modular mouse, everyone's endgame?! ->*This mouse was provided by Orbital for review purposes, but that does not/will not affect my opinion or comments in this review. As always, anything I say I backup with the relevant forensics and explanations!* I’ve been using the Pathfinder for around 2 weeks before writing this review so my opinions have formed, but certainly do not cover long-term usage. The overall unboxing experience of the Pathfinder is reminiscent of Christmas morning, with a set of very stylish boxes, each containing the relevant parts of the mouse and attachments. Both box and attachment box are very sturdy and fully reusable for long-term use. Inside the boxes you will find the mouse, USB-C cable with upward-angled USB connector, the wireless dongle, several sets of spare skates and the Pathfinder mouse itself. **Orbital Pathfinder (2.4G Wireless)** Sensor: PAW 3950DM Polling rates: 125Hz, 500Hz, 1000Hz, 2000Hz, 4000Hz, 8000Hz MCU: Nordic nRF52840 Mouse 1/2 Switches: Omron optical Weight: 45g no attachments, 53g average with attachments My hand: 18.5cm x 9cm Before we talk about the biggest and most appealing feature of this mouse, I want to begin this review by talking about the core, inner workings of the mouse. The pathfinder is one hell of a package with so many angles to cover, but at the end of the day I think we need to talk about basic functionality first, because of course it’s too easy to put all the attention on the modular aspect of this mouse and forget about everyday use! I was pretty intrigued with the Pathfinder concept, though somewhat skeptical about the practicality of it. After all, a modular mouse? We’ve all seen the likes of Cougar’s old “esports” mice with clip on parts which were honestly awful and nothing short of gimmicky. Orbital invited me to talk with them in which they explained their idea and gave a quick powerpoint demo. It’s at this stage I became fully interested - they had designs, solid ideas and had **thoroughly** researched mice, to which they had in-person interviewed dozens of gamers which even involved taking x-rays of how they hold mice. While the Orbital crew are indeed gamers, they didn’t approach this project like many of us would have. First and foremost, at their core Orbital seems to be more of an engineering company with their own product design engineers who have a proven history in product development, and not just any old products, but specifically ergonomic products that are designed to move, rotate and be adjust hundreds of thousands (or millions) of times. Their credentials speak for themselves. But… this is their first peripheral! So, let’s not dwell too much on creds - let’s shake this thing down and see what falls out, literally speaking. **Clicks/Switches** The Pathfinder uses binned Omron optical switches which are implemented perfectly with no post/pre travel or side wobble. M1/2 are tensioned correctly, and by this I specifically mean that you can press the buttons anywhere (top, sides, extreme front or rear) without the click feel changing. One concern I had around the shape of the Pathfinder was how close the M1/2 buttons are, as there is only a small space between them and I was worried they may rub together during use. I have stress tested these quite a lot and have been unable to make these buttons touch each other. In fact, even when trying to force them together by pressing both sides with full force they will only just touch each other. In short, not an issue. Side buttons are Omron D2LS microdot switches and have a medium level of tactility. Side buttons sit directly above where my thumb sits. There is no post/pre travel or wobble on these, but given how these are mounted I would say they run little to no risk of developing travel issues over time like some other mice. The scroll click is a square microswitch which offers a higher actuation level, yet again with perfect tensioning. The encoder is a lubed TTC gold dustproof which offers a medium, tactile and meaningful actuation level. Just to add another level of detail, the scroll wheel is magnesium and feels extra premium to use with such a nice grippy feeling. A really nice little bonus and probably my new favourite scroll wheel. The DPI button is on the bottom of the mouse. There isn’t much more to say here, except that DPI levels can also be changed/controlled in the software. Overall, really great work with the switches, tensioning and actuation balance across the mouse. One last note since you’re probably wondering by this stage, but the M1/2 buttons are not modular, but surprisingly seem to work just fine with all the shapes I tried (which was A LOT). continued...
r/MouseReview • Orbital Pathfinder - modular mouse, everyone's endgame?! ->**Structure** Perhaps the biggest concern I had for the Pathfinder was how the structure would stand up given the modular nature of the mouse. I’m going to start by saying that this is by far and in no way a concern anymore! The Pathfinder is one of the best made mice I have used – and I can assure you that by this stage I have removed/replace/changed every part dozens of times. It is literally solid from all angles. If you want to lose a few IQ points and conduct the “squeeze the shit out of it from top to bottom” test, feel free but don’t complain about your fingers hurting afterwards. The various clip on/off components and stand up to constant adjustment and removal and so far, they have all remained as they were upon arrival. Though realistically you won’t be removing these things hundreds of times. After testing for the sake of this review, I actually found that once I found my baseline comfort I didn’t change parts too often, and the process became a much more relaxed fine-tuning exercise. Overall, I wouldn’t expect anything less from a company that has its own engineers, but still, this could be their first mouse or their 50^(th) mouse and you wouldn’t know any difference from the 10/10 build quality. This is backed up with a 2 year warranty.
r/MouseReview • Orbital Pathfinder - modular mouse, everyone's endgame?! ->**Final Thoughts** The Pathfinder is not a mouse. It is mice. Despite Orbital being an experienced engineering company, this is their first peripheral and I have to say I am blown away by the overall execution and delivery of the Pathfinder. Orbital reached out to me in the early stages of development. They are the first company that I’m aware of to open their entire research and development line to the community and consistently and meaningfully engage with everyone, regardless of their opinion. Orbital first reached out to me 2 years ago, and have since made extraordinary efforts to actively engage with the mouse community, ensuring that each design decision was made with a strong level of general consensus among professional gamers, reviewers, enthusiasts and fans. Not only this, but Orbital have conducted their own in-house testing using various pieces of equipment to test each part of the mouse, including internals such as wireless stability/speed, switch debounce, sensor implementation and DPI deviation. Furthermore, despite releasing the Pathfinder to public they are still actively engaged (perhaps even more so than before) with the community, taking feedback and not just reviewing suggestions but also **acting** on them. I’m excited to see how things develop for Orbital in the near future. The Pathfinder is a total gem and I think Orbital are only going up from here. Definitely one to keep an eye on! Ultimately the Pathfinder isn’t just a mouse, it’s a journey that evolves with your preferences. It’s impossible to give this thing the full attention it deserves – I could literally write a book about this but I fear it would never end. With more attachments and colours on the way, the modular aspect of the Pathfinder could provide unlimited potential. Finally, thanks for Orbital for sending this over for review and including me in their overall design and development process, it’s been my honour! Thanks for reading. As always, feedback is welcome. Catch you in the next! Warrior out
