I have a pair of 3M WorkTunes Connect Wireless headphones. They are bluetooth so you can play noise to them. They are heavy on the head, but they will block all noise, even w/out the bluetooth sound.
Also I have a couple of small bluetooth speakers I play the sound of rain on. Oddly, this seems to work. The existence if the rain sound seems to suck up all other sound. I put it right near my ear/s. It doesn't need to be loud. This is the technique I generally use.
ANC headphones are NOT approved for hearing protection. In theory they would protect hearing, but they are limited by the ability of the microphone to perfectly recreate the noise, which is not possible.
I haven't found any "audiophile" quality ear pro. If you don't care about audio quality as much, 3m worktunes or isotunes work well. If you do care about audio quality, I would probably use an in ear monitor system with ear protection muffs over the top.
Bought these: "3M WorkTunes Wireless Connect Hearing Protector with Bluetooth, 26 dB Noise Rating, 90570-DC" they're the newer ones with USB C charger.
Had them for a few days. Satisfied with them for listening to music & audio. Had my first phone call using them today and I think I'll have to return them. While this was happening, I myself was muted (listening in on conference call & going to bathroom while not speaking) and I could hear all my own environmental sounds being picked up by my own microphones and delivered back through the headphones! Shutting the door, running the sink, it came back through the headphones louder in my ears than the person I speaking in the call who I was trying to listen to!
What's the actual technical term for this nearby feedback being deliberately put back through the speakers? I thought these were supposed to be noise canceling headphones. I loved listening to music & stuff with them but I can't deal with phone calls or Zoom meetings having the nearby noises piped into my headphones.
Is there a way to turn this off?
Yes. Same batteries in mine for 2 years. Left in unheated garage in ontarios snow belt. Used prob 2 times a week for 20 mins on average throughout the year. Great product
Sony XM6 are the best headphones out there and are made for long wear time. I have the XM5’s which are excellent.
However, when I want true hearing protection, I go to my 3M Worktunes.
A lot of people like the 3M earmuff headphones. I tried them. I am sure they are well made and durable. My issue with them is that I have some mild hearing loss and the earmuffs would not go loud enough for me to hear them over the mower, weedeater, chainsaw, etc. I contacted 3M and was told this is essentially for my safety, to keep me from damaging my hearing.
Walker makes a pair that do go loud enough that I still use
