For over ear I'd go ATH-M50x or M40x, also recently picked up a pair of Rode NTH-50's which I really like, very good isolation for on ears (better than their over ear NTH-100s) and sound decent. AIAIAI over ears with S05 speakers are alright but I can't get over the fact that there's much better headphones out there for much much less, you're paying for the brand and modularity with AIAIAI. Still love my AIAIAI's (and have enough parts for like 2.5 pairs of headphones) but I find them hard to recommend.
I think it depends entirely on whether you want to mix in headphones or via your speakers. My speakers are on the smaller side, it’s fun to blast music but my nicer headphones give a far more accurate idea of what the mix sounds like. I’ve never tried DT-770s mostly because I’ve heard they’re quite bright and I’ve never liked that in a headphone, I enjoy my Rode NTH-100’s a lot for mixing and just listening, they’re comfortable, well built and not too fatiguing while still being accurate. I also like my TMA-2’s with the S05 speakers and either the E04 or E08 pads depending on whether I fancy more bass or more sound stage. People aren’t lying about the HD-25s, they’re great but I don’t find them comfortable for longer sessions where I’m monitoring in headphones. Astounding otherwise though.
There are very few wireless options. You’ll need to use a 2.5ghz dongle to reach decent latency. Aiaiai studio Tma-2 has sub 20ms latency which will work for footage 24fps or above to keep sync. I’ve been testing Steelseries Arctis earbuds which are sub 30ms and haven’t had any problems….. buuuut I would suggest safer to get a pair of wired Sony cans as recommended by others in this sub.
If you prefer on-ear, HD25. If you prefer over-ear, AIAIAI TMA-2 custom built is great.
AIAIAI TMA2, can be upgraded with the wireless connection which is so much fun. The previous version didn't get loud enough on wireless connection but it looks like they fixed that now (TMA 2 DJ Wireless).
I have both and tma2 studio are great!
Beyerdynamic DT 700 pro X are V shaped. They have decent quality for the price and solid comfort due to the large cups. What I disliked about them was that certain aspects are scooped. That frequency range where a driven guitar has its foundation and the bass guitar has its body, the lower mids. On my head, this was seriously under represented and I had to look at something else. Sony 7506 gets a lot of love, but these have harsh treble and the ear cups are tiny and shallow. Audio Technica ATH-M 50 is somewhat poor in build quality, compared to others in the same range, but it also is a bit like a better Sony. The mids are okay, the treble is boosted but less harsh and it's a bit bigger than the Sony. Something of an oddball: The AIAIAI TMA-2 Studio. Is comfy, can do metal, is warm, does not overburden you with treble. There is a lot of detail, but compared to the Sony, they feel muffled up top. For listening to metal on higher volumes, this won't fatigue your ears as much as most others. On paper, they look like you can run them with mobile devices easily, but they take quite a bit of juice to get going. Sennheiser HD-300 Pro. These look like Sennheiser took the 280 and slightly beefed it up, but they are not. The whole headphone is larger, more comfortable, has different drivers and different ear cups. I did not want to try them at first because they look just like the 280. In the end, I bought them. They are quite flat in their response and I prefer that with most music styles that use instruments, especially metal, hardcore and rock. No bloated bass, silky smooth treble and the most comfortable fit I ever experienced with a closed back. If you rejected them for the same reason as me, give them a fair chance.
I use a pair of AIAIAI TMA-2 Studios while producing/writing/tweaking the creative mix, then I move to a pair of Sennheiser HD600s /w Sonarworks for more critical listening and mixing.
