AKG K240DF. I think it was a Sheffield or Chesky reference/test CD. I don’t remember the exact track, but I think female vocals were involved.

I dunno about cheap, but Sennheiser, AT and Shure have been reliable brands. Sony MDR-7506 are standard but give me fatigue. AKG K-240m from the 80s were legendary - I could strap them on for hours.

The Fosi doesn't do much to the sound other than provide more power. You might not need it for most things, but something like a dongle dac will choke out as frequencies peak and the impedance curve of the headphone gets very high. Something like Why So Serious? around 3:20 in is a decent sub bass test track that is pretty obvious when the stack falls apart. Superstition by Stevie Wonder has very clear cymbals and tambourines, that will clip and sound weird without enough amplification. Also the hd 6xx are 300ohms and really shine on OTL tube amps imo. Something like the ta-26 is a good start. lol, if you don't hear a difference between that the Fosi, you'll need to get your ears checked. Also, when auditioning new stuff; I recommend spending a week or two using only the 6xx and fosi as much as possible. Make sure you get well and used to what it can do on your head and in your environment. Then when switching to something else the changes are more obvious.

It looks like it's poorly made and a risk to anything plugged into it. On the USA Amazon we have access to UGreen products which are still cheap chinese garbage, but generally have a reputation for meeting specs and being durable enough. Still, we have a lot of problems switching USB inputs at CanJams. When you plug in USB there's power, data, a handshake, all sorts of stuff going on. A DAC is not a PC made for USB fast switching. Even the best devices get annoyed with constant switching and often start needing restarts for a variety of issues. If the topping is working well for it. Great. You're lucking out. BUT, if you introduce a switcher, it might keep providing power while only switching data and a lot of DACs i've dealt with HATE that. When i can for peace of mind, I usually turn off the DAC before plugging/unplugging USB. Just food for thought.

Sony mdr7506 is pretty great for vinyl. Classic HiFi type sound that people growing up with Vinyl 30 years ago appreciates. Koss KPH40 or 30i are also pretty good though on-ear. Phillips sph9600 are an open back over ear probably the most similar to the HD 600 but in your budget.. AKG K240 aren't my favorite, but do work well for the price and are awfully comfy.

Out I that lineup I own the: KSC75 Moondrop Old fashioned Philips X2HD Portapros Sportaproa I used to own the: HE400 MDR7506 I’ve owned my AKG240’s for almost 16 years now and know them well. I love them. For 80 dollars you get an excellent set of cans. Hard to dislike them imo. They have a good soundstage, feel fairly balance and when driven and eq’d do alright, I love them for gaming at this point. It’s all I really use them for at this point along side the X2HR’s But tbh, they are all great in their own way. I probably use the KSC75 the most out of all of them. I’m still getting a feel for the old fashioned but so far they are really good. Fill the bottoms more than the ksc75’s. They are closer in sound and feel to the ksc75’s than the portapros

I personally love my 240’s. They are a not cold sounding monitor with an intimate character probably because they are semi open. I really want to try the 701/702’s. I can only imagine that they are spectacular in their own way.

I have the AKG 240s and really love listening to jazz on them. My audio technique are 70s definitely are a better set but I feel like deep down in my heart. My game over ears is a 701 or 702.
