AKG - K551

Also still rocking the AKG K550, replaced the pads 2 times and had to resolder some wires on the inside but they are still going strong and haven’t really found a reason to replace them. Been thinking of getting a modmic or something to go with them, make them a true headset

Studio headphones have always been better. I'm only now considering replacing mine (AKG K550) and they're over 13 years old. Plastic just cracks and turns to dust once stuff gets 15-20 years old and mine are held together by tape in some places now due to small drops over the years. Still sound amazing. Not really sure what to do now as AKG isn't really AKG anymore.

AKG K551 -warm, giant ear cups. I have some and used them for earlier recordings. ATHM50X -particularly comfortable, not as much detail for me as AKG. I use mine for general listening because comfort. Austrian Audio Hi-X15, 50 and 60 I think these are more analytical in sound, but they suit me. I use these for studio listening because they have exceptional detail and suit my taste, I actually have the 65, not the 60, but same spec. I actually do have the 15 and 50 also. Beyerdynamic DT770 or (1770 if you are rich) I don't own, last studio I was in has some as hosue headphones. Sennheiser HD620S my engineers have always used Sennheiser. Really good balanced and present sound. Not many in range are closed back IIRC.

That's pretty much not a thing anymore where I live, and I suspect many other countries. The few shops that have headphones don't let you try them or it's 6 pairs of the same apple headphones in different colours and maybe a set of bose. Back when I bought my AKG K550 I spent a good two hours in a shop that sold speakers and headphones. They let you try anything and everything. It has since closed down.
