r/HeadphoneAdviceWhat are the best sounding open-back headphones for music listening? <300$ (USA)

In that $ range, I would have to go with the Sennhesier HD6XX or a pair of reburb HD600 off the Sennheiser Outlet Store. FYI: I'm a huge Sennheiser fan just to let you know. I would also have to include the very solid Fiio FT3 in that group. I'm not really a big fan of ribbons yet so I won't even try. I also own a older pair of ATH AD900x and while it's really detailed, it lacks sub bass than modern music needs to have and also can have sibilance on some recordings. If you have a bass boost option, that might not be a problem. I've never heard a pair of the R70x, but I have never seen a bad review on one. \*\*\* As always, headphones are all about personal preferrence, get a demo or a return policy if at all possible.

I have sennheiser 650 HD and audio technica ath ad900x. You can’t go wrong with either of them. I’ve had them for years

As someone who has owned the HE400SE before, the timbre is pretty strange and they're quite uncomfortable, not to mention the build quality. 560S, DT880 if EQ, AD900X, X2HR are all better options (I have owned all of these at some point).

Any Audio Technica. They're super light and open. I've used my old AD900X for >4 hour sessions pretty regularly.

r/headphonesthe first pair of headphones that made you actually care about sound

It was Beyerdynamic DT 440 in 2014, still have it somewhere. Before that, only headphones i had owned were some random gaming headsets. Truth be told, impressions were something like "it's clear sounding, but where's the bass?". I got used to it and afterwards listening the gaming headsets, they were just a muddy mess. Before 2015 was over, i had Audio-Technica ATH-AD900X, which again felt like an upgrade over the DT 440's. So these two i would classify as headphones that made me care about sound, if made to choose, the AD900X affected more.

I agree. I also went with the ad900x often because they're more comfortable for me

Planars are great. But if gaming is your main criteria, stick with dynamic drivers. Beyerdynamic 9 series (900 pro X, 990 pro, 1990 pro) Sennheiser 600 series ( hd600, 650, 660, 660s, 660s2, and including the 490pro) and 500 series ( hd560s is one of the most recommended options for gaming around here), Some of the audio technica ath-ad models. Specifically for competitive fps games, these are pretty much the best options out there at reasonable prices. Adding an amp like the Fiio k5 you mentioned is also a good idea with most of these. I personally like Sennheiser more because I listen to more music than I play video games, but I occasionally get called a cheater in r6 with my old hd600 + Fiio k11. If you don’t care about music or other media, the beyers should technically be even better.
