I have a pair of ath m40fs I have wanted to replace but I'm afraid of not getting something as comfortable. I ordered some headphones a few years ago but hated how they felt so returned them.
Audio-technica m40s have been working great for me in a live setting. I had them sitting for over a year because I was mainly using the r70xa for home use. I opted to use the closed back m40s for the club. I was super impressed. I never had a single issue with hearing what was coming from the headphones.
Maybe the low end Audio Technicas? The M50s are kind of the standards, but the M40s and M30s are good too. It's $150 for M50, $100 for the M40, and $70 for the M30. I think you'll get most of the way there with the 30s, they're comfy and lightweight, good familiar response.
I have ath m40s.. really itβs about getting your ears and head around what the profile of your headphones are and being aware of what they are
Audio technica ath-40 and the cheaper tascams used them with a fiio amp/dac and a topping amp. Before that I had crappier wal mart brands.
My under $100 picks: Koss KPH30i and KPH40i, Philips SHP9500 and SHP9600, Audio-Technica ATH-M40βs (on sale) Sennheiser HD 599βs (also on sale)
