1) Make sure you buy them from a music store and get a gift receipt. It is a pretty personal thing, so the option to return, try on a few, and exchange should be given, encouraged and also expected! Honestly, I would recommend just taking them to pick out what they want.... but I get that it is nice to have a physical item to "gift" even if it gets exchanged!!!! 2) Just some clarification - by "over ear" are you saying that the cups cover his entire ear, with the padding on the outside of the ear? Or just that they are not "in ear" like a pair of Airpods are? Best Gift Options: Over Ear (enclosed around the whole ear) **-** Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT On Ear (not Airpods, but the foam sits on top of the ear) - HD25s If there isn't a preference, I would 100% go with the HD25s. Kinda an industry standard, absolute workhorses. 3) You don't want bluetooth for DJing 99% of the time (it can create latency). 4) You don't want noise cancelling. You want to hear the monitors, and the systems than do the noise cancelling change the audio and can also create latency.
r/Beatmatch • Best headphones for DJing? ->m50xbt for dj/travel hd600 for chilling/working
r/headphones • What headphone do you always find yourself going back to? ->If you'd like to have NC, I strongly suggest the Bowers & Wilkins Px7. Without NC, I dig the ATH-M50x BT die to their sound profile. I recently compared these two along with the Sennheiser Accentum as well as Soundcore Q30s and out of those, they absolutely stood out. Both headphones have app support for EQ.
r/HeadphoneAdvice • Best Headphones for Music w/ No Budget ->i actually own those audio technica headphones, they're great for noise insulation, but they don't sound that great and aren't that comfortable because they don't sit around your ear like proper studio headphones, but rather push directly on it. I'm pretty sure they're more geared towards djing. i can tell you for a fact that both akg k240 and sennheiser hd600 sound better and are more comfortable. never tried those beyerdynamics though. if you can, i recommend picking a track that you know very well, and going around playing it on those different headphones so you have a fixed reference.
r/edmproduction • Help me choose headphones for music production and video editing ->Ive owned both of these and I like the fit / repairability of the DT770s better. They fit completely around my ears whereas the m50x sit on them. You may consider how much isolation you want as others here have mentioned, an open back headphone would overall be better for mixing, but then you give up isolation. I wouldn't worry too much about curve as they are both pretty far from neutral. If you really want neutral you can apply an eq at the system level with something like Equalizer APO https://sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/ Or a eq on your master in daw with a curve found online.
r/edmproduction • Help me choose headphones for music production and video editing ->I've been using the Audio technica ath-m50x bt for years. They've been great. I've had them long enough that the battery started to go out. I was able to just replace it with a new high capacity battery and I swapped refreshed the ear cushions. I would buy the new audio technica ath-m50x bt2 if I were in the market.
r/BuyItForLife • Over-Ear headphones that will last a good while ->I've had both, to me the beyer sound better but they stopped working in 2 weeks. Might be a one off. The AT I've had for a couple years and no issues.
r/edmproduction • Help me choose headphones for music production and video editing ->1. Sennheiser Momentum 4 - Magical. Don't know how they pack in the sound quality there. Sometimes I trash the EQ settings just to try to make them sound bad. I baby them though, so my number 2 is 2. AKG K361 - Cheap, sounds great, and comfortable as heck to my head and ears. Never offensive, easy to drive, good durability. I'll carry and use these without a care while the M4s would stay in my work bag. When I'm at home, though, I generally use my number 3, the 3. Fiio FT1 - Does the same thing as number 2, just with a little more style, cost, and weight. I love the wood. Driving it through 4mm balanced on my Fosi K7 sounds sweet and rich. I got these to replace #4, the 4. Audio-Technica M50x - This was my go to for seven years before last year. Built like a tank, I went through a set of pads on it. For a long time this was what I thought headphones were supposed to sound like. I'm glad I mixed it up. Speaking of mixing, let's talk about number 5. 5. Sony MDR-7506 - I got these because I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I get it. If you can make your music sound great on these, you can make it sound great on anything.
r/headphones • Rank your closed-back headphones (2025) ->Ath m50, anything more expensive Is snake oil, you don't need 500€ headphones
r/Beatmatch • Best headphones for DJing? ->I use the ath m50 for everything, from producing to gaming, I even have the wireless version for when I walk the dog and shit xd
r/simracing • Reliable good headphones for sim racing out there ? (preferably with no software) *PFA* ->I tried a few headset last month (PC gaming) SteelSeries Nova 7P, Audiotechnica M50X, Benedynamic DT880 Pro, and HyperX cloud 2. These are my opinion as day-to-day game and music enjoyer. Not an audiophile. I’m using EQ with Steel series GG - Sonar. Nova 7 and hyperX are wireless and closed back. M50X (closed back) and DT 880 pro (semi-open-back) are wired. I settled down for HyperX cloud 2 (upgraded with wicked cushion) for wireless and DT 880 pro for wired with DAC. Nova 7 is awesome, but it falls short on 2 pain points - too small for my head and plastic hinges. I fear I’ll break it in months from my daily usage/abuse. Otherwise they are terrific. M50X is also good with crystal clear sounds… but I prefer open back of the DT880 Pro more. DT880 Pro also has bigger ear cushion, more comfortable long gaming session. Purely personal preference. HyperX cloud 2 works wonders for me. Good sound and bass. Even better when used with EQ. When compared to Nova 7, it has better omph bass in wireless mode (nova 7 is a beast when plugged in). DT 880 pro is my spare for when the hyperX ran out of battery or when I need a better sound for movie immersive-ness. It just works. As your partner wanting wireless, give HyperX and SteelSeries a try. They are both closed back with good reviews. YMMW. These are under $150. If you can spend $200+ then there are other tier of headset that’s outside of my budget range.
