Beyerdynamic mmx-300 gen 2, bought it and never looked at "gaming" headsets again
Beyerdynamic MMX-300 2. Generation 300€ and Creative Sound Blaster Z SE 80€ In HUNT, my mates call me Elf-Ear. Because I can hear every fart in the bush from hundreds of meters away :D
Don't go for open back headphones! I play competitive COD and tried a few things. I run off of a G5 and always use scout mode. It is a hack once you get used to it and learn to use it properly. So what I noticed about open backs is that the sounds travels away from you. Something you don't really need in a competitive setting. Closed backs bounce it back; the sounds stays with you in a sense. I finally ended up with the Beyerdynamic 300 MMX Gen 2s with Dekoni Pads and they were great. But Sennheisers are better. I tried them later down the road when I buddy picked up some news ones and that was it. So Beyerdynamics or know for soundstage, which is something that conventional wisdom swears by in gaming because of direction and all of that. And Sennheisers by comparison give you more of an in your head sound, which again, is normally not recommended. But in a competiti e setting it actually works in your favor to have that immediate in your face sound. And they still have direction because the imaging is superb on good Sennheisers. The only thing lack is depth from the lesser soundstage, which doesn't matter. I actually just got back into COD competitive albeit casually and just picked up the Sennheiser 620s which has leather pads, pronounced highs and deep cups. With scout mode, I have no doubt they will be absolute bangers for Snd. Quick tip: when you use scout mode, do not use anything in the sound settings of your game except original mix. You want sounds pronounced correctly as possible first and then let the soundblaster do its magic. Don't take my word for any of this by the way. You have scout mode on the GC7 and there are youtube videos comparing different sound settings with footstep situations that will allow you to guage which is better for your setup. The GC7 is actually my next pickup. It is the only soundblaster that has scout mode available in the android app which is weird, but I don't use a pc and I want to be able to control that and some different EQs with the ease of an app. Edit: All of this is strictly for competitive soundwhoring. For campaigns and casual multiplayer, open back setups are very nice and Beyerdynamics' soundstage are better than adequate as well.
Oh scout mode sucks ass on a sonic level for sure, but it works. Again, I play COD and not Warzone, just competitive Snd, Hp, Control, which is all fast paced, close action with little verticality and distance not being a huge factor due to the speed of the game (by the time you get there, he is gone) and comms (distant information that isn't your engagement is usually being called out the teammate involves in said engagement). For what it's worth, I nerded out on this when I was playing 14 hours a day years ago and scout mode over time helped my game a lot. I actually had Sennheisers too, but they were the HD7s which are very bassy and I prefered the MMXs. But I am very looking forward to my 620s and catching all of the YYing noobs who reload way to early lol.
Tried the first variants and they were hands down the worst headset I have ever touched. Small cups, insanely boosted bass, poor mic. Maybe the new models are better. I personally swear to Beyerdynamic, been using the mmx300 v2 for 5+ years, insanely good.
If you want something that’ll do justice to both your music and War Thunder, I’d seriously look at the **Beyerdynamic MMX 300 (2nd Gen)**. They’ve got a clean, detailed sound with pinpoint imaging, so you can actually tell where things are coming from in-game. For long sessions they’re really comfortable too — Beyerdynamic pads are like pillows. They are wired and on the chunky side, so if you really want wireless there are decent picks like the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless, but in your price range for pure audio quality, the MMX 300 is one of the few that works just as well for gaming as it does for music.
No i pretty much use default sound drivers, sound isolation from the closed cup is enough for me. I did some config changes to the sound but they were from some generic guide. Never really had the issue of not being able to hear steps
