Momentum 4's are currently way cheaper than that and provide a great *balanced* sound. I've been researching a shitton of headphones in this range lately, so I'd say get that. If you can squeeze out another Benjamin - get the HDB 630. The Sennheisers may feel plasticky but they're pretty well built - you don't see many reports of them breaking compared to Sony forums. Oh, I completely forgot - Bowers&Wilkins Px7 S3 - those are great. Whathifi named them the best for sound quality (although the HDB630 was just released and is getting ton of praise from audiophiles), and they're very well built - metal stuff and all. If it's too expensive - wait for the Black Friday or get the S2e. I'd recommend to stay away from PX8 (1st gen), unless you want muddy bass all over the place.
NC700 are pretty light headphones (around 254 grams) so this surprises me a bit. The XM6 weight about the same, the QC a bit less and the really good ones I have (Bathys/Px8) and the Px7s3 a lot more. Would look at the XM6 which has a phenomenal microphone and ANC solid (if a bit bass forward) sound (EQ helps) and pretty comfortable although I don't like the shallow earpads. The Bose QC Ultra and QC are also right around the XM6 and NC700 in weight but may feel more comfortable for you as they don't use the same headband.
You need to be a bit more specific. Do you need/want ANC? Do you need/want microphones for calls? If not I'd get the Drop 6xx which is just a mass produced Sennheiser HD650. They are comfortable, light (a little too plasticky for me but that allows them to be cheaper and lighter) with very good resolution in the mid-range. Add a subbass low shelf filter by EQ and they are perfect. For ANC, I lean toward the Bose QC Ultra 1 or the B7W Px7s3 for comfort and decent but not great sound.
Try the B7W Px7s3. It currently is a bit more than you are trying to spend but is a great ANC headphone. I have the Px8 and it fits snugger than my QC Ultra V1 or 2. It doesn't have a touch pad but buttons which I like more than the touch pad approach of the NC700 (just traded mine in after 6.5 yrs with it).
Much more bass forward than the Bathys and you do need to EQ the lower treble. With that said, using Wavelet to mitigate those issues, I really like the Px series.
Pretty easy to fix with Wavelet using Android. Bass not as tight or clean as Bathys but I have no issues with mid-range or treble. And built great and extremely comfortable to use.
Bose QC line and B&W Px line for me are the most comfortable headphones and they have pretty similar architecture and just differ in build quality. I don't find the Sony line very comfortable as the headbands are not extremely well padded and the earcups are really shallow.
Try these and find the one that works for your use case (and ears). You won’t go far wrong with any at this price point. Wireless: Sony WH-1000 XM6 - arguably best all rounder. Supports LDAC on android, so hi-res music! Can be used wired. Bose Quiet Comfort Ultra (Gen 2) - anc king. Lots of great reviews. Comfortable for long haul. Sennheiser Momentum 4 - Good sound, 60 hr battery life, but I’ve seen some negative build quality stories. Bowers & Wilkins Px7s3: Solid build, great sound. High quality. Wired: Assuming closed back rather than open without anc. Meze 99 classics - beautiful build quality. Check design. Warm sound. Focal Azurys - Punchy. Have a look at design to see if it works for you. Solid sound quality. Sony MDR-M1 - comfy for long periods. Personal note: The Bowers & Wilkins are the most elegantly designed and arguably have the best sound quality. The Sony have the best anc and support hi-res, with Bose very closely behind. Take these 3 as strong options and head to a shop for a listen. Happy listening!
Same here, was really disappointed with the Px7 S3, sounded way too congested to my taste..
I mean yes but no one does ANC better than sony. Thats the major selling point. I’ve found my favorite wireless headphones from a sound perspective are the Melomania P100’s with a very clean and neutral sound, but ANC and comfort on those are mediocre at best. I now have the Px7 S3 and they are also great sounding with DECENT anc (not amazing u need music playing as well). I saw some people say it too but the Momentum 4’s are great as well if ANC is not a priority
Honestly all 3 options listed have phenomenal sound quality. I'd just look into their signature sound as that's the main difference. If I'm being honest I'm not sure if you'd be satisfied by an upgrade as the Momentum 4's are already up there. I personally think there is an improvement but not sure if its big enough to warrant and upgrade. Regardless I'd go Px7 S3 as it provides that excellent sound quality, a closer V shape to the momentum 4's and has really good ANC and build quality. If you are looking into the Px8's I'd wait for the S2's
If you want a similar sound profile, go for the Px7 S3! You wont be disappointed then. Really nice quality
I have the bowers and wilkins px7 s3 - they look good, sound great, and are relatively affordable at around €300
