Honestly maybe I need to try more iems but I feel like it is easier to play with a headset than iems. I have a DT770, I bought a Austrian Audio Hi-X20 I have a Epos H6Pro closed as a secondary headset and in the iems world I just have a pair of CCA rhapsody. They were supposed to be neutral but I don't know if we don't have the same definition of neutral: I have drop around 5 or 6 DBs in the 2-4khz range to make them bearable. Any gunfight is awful without it, the gun of my character is louder than anything else and they are louder than any headset I have so I need to drop 5DBs on the preamp at least (that part makes sense I guess they are in my ears instead of "on" my ears) With any headphones I tried the sound is different of course but they all have their sonar characteristics without being that overwhelming that I need to EQ them.
https://a.co/d/0amYMVn1 Epos h6pro. Epos has since pulled out of gaming I believe, but these are what's left and I've had mine for probably 6-8 years.
I've had my Epos (Sennheiser) H6Pro for years (at least 6) and still love it. They closed the Epos gaming division in 2023 but you can still get them on Amazon for $150.
Epos proH6. Ive got the closed version. Wired. I hooked them up to the dolby atmos app and used settings I was recommended on reddit. Best headphones I've ever had, including the dolby atmos app just under 100£.
I love them. Very comfortable for long sessions and good directional sound and the build quality is solid. I can't say much about the mic though since I use a separate microphone. I also have them hooked into a Sound BlasterX G6 DAC which improves performance. In hindsight, I'd rather have gotten the open version since they tend to give better directional audio, but overall I've been very happy.
Open backs would probably be better, but it depends on your preference and situation. Open backs are better with imaging and soundstage, so they'd be better at figuring out where things are happening, but will bleed sound to the outside and won't drown outside noise, so it depends on how your setup is. I got closed because my previous loving situation required me to have a headset that kept my sound inside the headset. I also never used it without a DAC, so that'd be something to look into. They're nice to have with almost any headset. I also love having a purpose built microphone, it really makes a difference to your voice. I have a Blue Yeti, but it's pretty old these days. Lots of great options though.
Logitech G Pro X (wired) EPOS H6PRO (open or closed) HyperX Cloud Alpha (or Cloud Stinger 2 if on tighter budget) SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3 (wired USB‑C) the EPOS H6PRO is the strongest single recommendation. If you want to save more cash but still avoid trash mics, the Logitech G Pro X (wired) is the next best bet, especially if PC play and Discord are a big part of your usage.
They're effectively the old Sennheiser Gaming One with some tweaks, which were, indeed, great headphones. No idea why Sennheiser stopped making them in favour handing most of the branding to drop and going about doing something else. I've got the GSP 600, PC38X and a H6 Pro - all these are similar and they're all great.
