A price range is pretty important for these types of questions. Also, do you want wireless only? With PS5 Pro, I’ve personally used Drop/ Sennheiser PC38x (predecessor PC37x would be cheaper option) for multiplayer or fast paced games (like Returnal) for good directional audio and HiFiMan Edition XS for cinematic single player games. You would need to plug them into your controller in the 3.5mm jack. I’m not into the overpriced and underperforming “gamer brand” headsets. A decent Sennheiser headset typically blows them into the weeds and lasts years longer. I have higher end headsets that would blow your mind like the HD490 Pro and especially the HE1000se I use on PC. Those are probably going to be way too pricey for this discussion.

I've been using Sennheiser headphones and headsets for nearly 30 years at this point. I used to use a pair of HD 598 for home and moved to the PC37X because I wanted a set with a good mic. Then upgraded to the PC38X when the PC37X's volume nob started to crackle (I'm sure it could have been fixed with some contact cleaner) which brought the audio more in line with the HD 598 again. I still use the HD 598 for console gaming when not using speakers, just with an aftermarket inline mic cable. I actually bought a second PC38X last year as I saw the writing on the wall for Drop and dread the day I'll need to find something else. My 5 year old PC38X mic still mutes fine when lifting, and I haven't had any volume knob issues. And I can't say I find it especially quiet. Hell, I keep my Windows volume at like 20% and then usually lower apps and Youtube down to 5\~10% volume on top of that, and still keep the volume knob adjusted to about half. And that's just using the front panel audio driven by a super cheap MSI motherboard. But I do have a fairly quiet room and some people like things a lot louder. But you can always get an external DAC/AMP for $30. Gaming headsets can be good. My PC37x has been going strong for like 5 years now.

The best ones I have had are sennheiser. The pc37x is absolutely fantastic. I now have the hd 560 s. They are open back but they’re incredible.

I have the same problem. For reference, when I wear bike helmet, I wear 62cm. Baseball cap size is XL or 7 3/4. I currently use Nova Pro 7, but the mic quality is not the best, and the sidetone has static noise. I have been using it for 3 years and looking for new one with better sound quality, mic and sidetone. Prior to this, I was using Sennheiser HD 598cs (same as 569), it's comfortable, but mic wasn't great and its wired. Here are the headphones I bought and returned due to small size. (either too tight or don't cover my earlobes) Logitech G Pro X2, Astro A50 gen5, Turtle Beach Stealth 700, EPOS H6Pro open, HyperX Cloud III, Nova Pro Wireless , Nova Pro 5. Drop PC37X, Sony Pulse, Sony Pulse Elite, Sony H5 Inzone. The only one that fit my head comfortably is Asus ROG Delta II, but the app is too buggy and sidetone didn't work for me.

If you’re happy with wired, I’d say go for some ‘proper’ studio headphones preferably open backs. Beyerdynamic 990s are absolutely sweet for the money, then add a modmic. My current set up is Beyer DT1990 + a wired modmic and I absolutely love it. I’m a musician and I’ve had a few pairs of Beyer headphones, seen them in plenty of studios they are absolutely bulletproof (repairable if they do break) had my 990s for 8 years now, just needed one new set of ear cushions. More in the gaming specific world though The Drop/ Senn PC37X as already mentioned are also fantastic for the money, and more neatly integrated than a modmic if that bothers you.

Open back let's sound through in both directions so only works in a quietish space where no one else is bothered by your gaming sounds. Gaming headsets are mostly bad headphones with microphones and wireless connectivity so what you mean by good should be more defined. Sony and Sennheiser don't have gaming headsets (beyond Sony Pulse/Inzone which aren't good and Sennheiser PC37x and PC38x which are good but likely not available) and Logitech ia firmly im the bad headphones department. An actually good setup is usually a pair if proper headphones and a separate mic. If that's of interest then I can rec some optipns, but of not then just go with the most expensive Logitech for example.

Thanks for the reply! I haven't tried many full sized headphones or found one I liked yet. I had the audeze Mobius / Kingston hyperx cloud orbit s and they were disappointing. I have the pc37x and they're alright. Samething with the g435 lightspeed wireless, which don't have great drivers, but are tuned pretty well I think. I've been hesitant to shell out for another set of headphones cause I'm worried I'll be disappointed again. I've owned a lot of tws on the other hand and did really like the original momentum in ears, which are ages old by now. I didn't like the other Sennheiser in ears I tried which were even older. I remember liking some kipsch ones, and etymotic too. I also really liked moondrops older stuff but not so much their newer stuff.

I actually prefer open back. Makes it easier to hear myself talk while in voip. And they get less warm too I find. I currently have a pc37x which has been okay.
