Bluetooth is evolving too "fast" to be BIFL. Headphones are consequently following such pattern as well. Also the evolution in sound quality and functionalities is quite fast nowadays. The most BIFL headphones would be the premium wired ones, such as Sennheiser HD800. But if you want mobility in your house you won't have that. So at the moment you're a bit stuck with having to buy Bluetooth ones that won't be crazy BIFL. Then it depends if you want amazing sound or you're ok with anything, or if you want to be fully aware of your surroundings (maybe to listen to wife, kids) or want the full sound isolation, if you want to use them just for home or also out... For all that there are nowadays many good options, it can range from just small earbuds (like the Airpods) that you can also take out, and made a lot of progress in terms of sound quality, to expensive wireless overhead audiophile headphones. Personally I ended up with Graco Gw100x just because these are the only open back Bluetooth headphones with a decent sound quality. If you have iphone and Apple products consider Airpods Pro. Really.
You can try Grado GW100x. Open back so you can hear the environment around you. Metal headband that can be bent to the shape you need to fit your head. Not under $200 because amazing sound quality. Clean up your earphones well with alcohol wipes and with the original packaging/boxes (you kept them, right?), sell locally on Facebook Marketplace or likely for less with shipping (you should provide free shipping) and fees on eBay, and bring that cost down.
So I've been hunting for a good wireless pair of cans (up to ~ā¬350, available in Europe, don't care about ANC or app features as long as the sound is worth the money, neutral sound preference with at most a slight bass boost) for a while now, and it all keeps returning to the same issue - they keep hurting the top of my head because they don't clamp all that hard and the whole package ends up hanging right off of that narrow headband. Even the B&W Px7 S2 and CA Melomania P100, my favourite picks otherwise, quickly ended up hurting my head despite all the praise for their comfort. Apparently I've just got a steeper dome than most, while I don't mind earcups that really snap on as long as they have good cushions - my wired mainstays are a 1MORE H1707 and Senn HD560S, both of which I can wear for hours without any trouble even with glasses, despite their reputation for clamping down. The Grado GW100x were also quite comfortable, but there I just couldn't get used to their on-ear sound signature. So what's there left to try in the wireless department that'll give my head a good squeeze? I did leave the Senn Momentum 4 and Bose QC 45 as a last resort yet just because I'm a little bored of consumer tuning so feel free to recommend those if they fit the bill, but what else is there to try besides just piling on extra padding and hoping that helps instead?
I really love my Grado GW100X <3
Saw a guy buying them for 500⬠at the store yesterday, Iām honestly a crazy person but the open back Grado GW100x at half the price sound better (at the expense of convenience of course).
Ok yeah, then I can compare it to my wireless headphones, which are open back and have no ANC: The Grado GW100x. They outperform these at half the price if what you care about is pure sound and musicality. The Senns offer infinitely better build quality and convenience, of course.
Grado GW100x outperforms the Momentum in every way- open, detailed, beautiful sound, light and comfortable, becomes passive and scales with gear once you wire it up
Brilliant! Listed 40 hours. I never ran out. Look for reviews. I can promise you it sounds very close to Focal Bathys, for a ton less money! The only things you're sacrificing are build quality and ANC, but that's very much understandable considering the sheer value. It's the best value wireless headphone in the whole world!
If you can stretch your budget, what you want and need is Focal Bathys or even Bathys MG. I own both. Nothing comes close. If you are OK with open back sound leakage, you can save BIG bucks by getting Grado GW100x for far and away the best value in wireless audio.
qudelix5k... the wireless lync is as robust as anything and your headphone options are endless. if you want self contained the grado gw100 are the best sounding things grado makes because DSP.
The nyczaj pads on those grado x drivers make them so good
I have some budget headphones, grado open back and m-audio closed back. I love the grados for almost everything (especially vocals!) and find them non fatiguing and super lightweight so easy to wear for a long time. But, I often want more bass and/or privacy so then I'll pull out the closed back. OP, why not get one of each and still stay in your budget?
I'm a big fan of Sony. The WF 500 earbuds are a very solid budget option, have used mine constantly for well over 3 years and still hold a charge well. And the 1000 xm5 are great over ear noise cancelling headphones that have decent aftermarket support, like cooling ear pads. I love my Grado open back headphones too, but theyre more for dedicated stereo music listening, and don't think they offer anything Bluetooth anyway.
For rock music, there is nothing else like grado, try to find a secondhand one to fit your budget better, but you really need to try it on your own at least once before buying anything else. It's open back, which mean it will leak sound everywhere and much more suitable for home usage. It also doesn't sound that good for most other genre, but man they do the meanest guitar shred I've ever heard
