r/headphonesthe first pair of headphones that made you actually care about sound
about 1 month ago

My audio journey started with skull candy headphones in the 2000s thinking that the pinnacle of sound was the Beats by Dre. I got Christmas money in highschool but couldn’t afford the Beats so instead picked up some shire srh840 instead. That set me down a path to finding perfection. I spend the next several years trying many headphones. Grado MS1, Shure srh 940, audio technical ATH m50. I eventually settled on Grados as my favourite and my headphone journey ended with my Grado RS1i. I recently in the past 5 years got interested again and bought a pair of sennheiser HD650 from Amazon but as much as I like them, they don’t amaze me like my Grados. May move up the chain in the non Grado world. Thinking hifiman arya, Sennheiser HD800, or maybe an Audeze LCD 2. I never really broke the $500 barrier for non Grado headphones. Senn HD800 interests me because I hear they’re bright and I like treble

i really can recommend my ie600 for this record, enjoying it with my Grados and Maxwell as well.

r/headphonesOver-ear headphones that are the most "loose"/comfortable?

The headband on Grados are made from thin metal inside the faux leather exterior and you can bend it out of shape really easily to make it as tight or loose as you like. Mine pretty much sit over my ears and don't squeeze at all.

r/headphonesHow do you choose your headphones?

That’s why you need AT LEAST 10 sets of headphones! The only over/on eras I can wear individually are my 25 year old Grados. The only thing that prevents me from gluing AirPods Pro permanently to my head is battery life.

For rock music, there is nothing else like grado, try to find a secondhand one to fit your budget better, but you really need to try it on your own at least once before buying anything else. It's open back, which mean it will leak sound everywhere and much more suitable for home usage. It also doesn't sound that good for most other genre, but man they do the meanest guitar shred I've ever heard
