i've listened to the atrium and he1k unveiled, they were both outstanding. one thing is that there is much more going on in the 2 drivers that make them esoteric/special/colored whatever one wants to call it. compared to what has "impacted the industry" it seems to just be a race to get to neutrality or the next best researched curve - which i'm all for, the 6x0 series is undoubtedly good and i find myself listening to 6xx even with other much more expensive headphones.
lol you are really chasing that end game(i feel the same way). I actually prefered the atrium to the caldera closed on brief listen. cc didn't do anything special to me somehow. he1k unveiled is crazy good detail/tuning though probably endgame next susvara if you are chasing technicalities/detail
Too many people think the he1000 unv sounds to same or better than sus. For me sus has 1 step higher realism, the he1000 is the most natural sounding he1000 but it has an ever slight artificialness to the sound. Would be interested in what you think of the sus unv.
Don’t worry about the susvara, get a pair of he1k unveiled, I honestly prefer them after trying out the susvara
I’ve tried out original susvara with the 3.5 and I genuinely think he1k unveiled is better in detail and still just adds a bit of warmth and slap compared to susvara. I get you for a while susvara was my endgame, but I pivoted a bit after seeing how much he1k unveiled fit my music. Give them a try if you have the chance, I think you’ll love them and overall they’ll be able to save you a bit of money both on usual price and the amp needed to drive them
I haven’t tried any of the uber expensive headphone. But my he1000 unveiled, with no eq and playing bf6 makes me feel like I actually just got shot by a fucking tank while I can hear a dude screaming in a room like 2 buildings away. Idk if it’s the best soundstage for music and such, but I’ve never had a headphone make me feel like I’m in a video game like my he1k, also shoutout to the great sound design in bf6

I think bf6 isn’t the best game for that since there’s so much going on. I’ve played a good bit of cod and I can hear footsteps and their distance and place in space great. But yea for specific soundwhoring fast paced fps there’s probs better soundstage. He1k unveiled just feels like you’re there and taking in all the chaos
I use them mostly with a xduoo ta 22, I was using a Fiio k9 pro before and it was definitely better for the immersion and clean sound that needed, but I enjoy the xduuo a lot more for music. If you are looking for I’m selling my Fiio on AVexchange, and if you’ve tried hifimans before and you like he1k in general, I can’t recommend the unveiled enough tbh. I love mine
I own he1k and have tried susvara and tbh I don’t think they’re worth it, when you compare with things like he1k SE or unveiled. My unveiled pair has all the detail and soundstage I got when I tried out susvara, but is able to give me a really good punch on the low end with a slight eq and no muddyness, if you do think you wanna upgrade from the organic I’d definitely recommend seeing if any of the he1k pairs fit your style
I actually think the HE1000 Unveiled is the worst open headphone Hifiman currently makes with its reaaaally excessive treble and weird midrange tone combined with the flat upper bass and low mids I complain about with the 1266 to a worse degree. I think the Empyrean 2 is a wildly terrible headphone too…a hilarious amount of treble and really muddy bass. I think the 105 AER does what I think the Empyrean 2 is trying to do in a way that makes more sense. The Empyrean 2 sounds like it could have been a cheap headphone sold at Best Buy; I was so wildly pissed off when I heard it for the first time and subsequent listens only showed more issues. However I think the Arya Unveiled isn’t bad, just have to go into it understanding that it’s a very different presentation. I’ve met plenty of people that like the snappy attack and decay that planars have, and I do like my Stax and, to a lesser degree, my Caldera for when I want that specific sound. But for actual long term use it just sounds really weird to me, like overstuffing a kick drum but everything sounds that overdamped. I’ve been really, really jaded about the headphone hobby for the past few years because companies kept releasing slop like the Empyrean 2 and the ADX7000 is the headphone I’ve been waiting for since I started the hobby in 2009. I’ve gotten a lot of flak over the years for being overly negative about stuff so it feels so weird to be excited about a headphone. The ADX7000 may be a little safe for some people but the Empyrean 2 is a goddamn awful headphone and I’m still frustrated that they didn’t instead try to improve upon the original Empyrean, which had some neat tricks.
Hifiman Arya Organic + Topping DX3 Pro+ or Topping DX5 II if you want something with a screen and more power. make sure to turn down the highs and turn up the bass with an eq. Ez pz, just a low shelf at 100 and a high shelf at 10k-15khz depending on your tastes. After that just enjoy. I'm using something extremely similar to the Organic, the HE1000 V2 Stealth with a Topping DX5 II, it's my endgame. With a 7 db bass boost it makes my head numb and it has enough details/separation to make me go sometimes "zamn", but with my own eq it's just a very "good" set. I dont look for a "wow" factor, I just want great quality reproduction if that makes sense. If you want a wow factor, you certainly can do that with eq, these headphones take EQ really well. My recommendations : Hifiman Arya Stealth + Topping DX3 Pro+ (minimum) Hifiman Arya Organic + Topping DX5 II (Maximum) Depending on where you live and the local pricing, things may be in or out of budget but if possible, the last stack is literally endgame. I can't stress how nice it feels to have endless amounts of power on tap. I've listened to headphones costing 4000 USD (LCD-5) and they're not significantly better. Better, yes, but not what the price would suggest at all. The Arya Organic is literal endgame. If money is tight right now, get the Organic and a little TRN Black Pearl with balanced cables and then upgrade to the Topping DX5 II later on. After that just call it quits. Other headphones do some things better but not all of them. Whereas the Susvara will be a genuine upgrade in all aspects by 5-25% but it costs 5-10x more. Diminishing returns.
Why go $400? I have the fiio ft1, hifiman sundara closed backs and both a great especially if you have a decent amp to pair them with. I primarily use hifiman 1000he stealth paired to an ef400 and use that as a reference. But everytime i listen to the fiio ft1 im blown away at how good they sound for only $150. Sundaras need stronger amplification to get anywhere near the authority of the fiio ft1 or higher end hifimans.
As an FPS gamer, I find that good audiophile headphones don't mean good gaming headphones. A sound signature that's works well for music doesn't work well for hearing footsteps or audio cues for me personally. I find that I'm able to separate objects better on my gaming headphones than my HE1000s, The bass on the HEs muddy everything up.
Beautiful collection. I think Focal Clear OG, HD800, HE1000 series and LCD-3 have stood the test of time. The Atrium are said to be beautifully crafted. I'd want to give the Atrium open and closed a listen one of these days.
I have not heard the Bathys, but I full agree on the HiFiMan. I am a big fan of both the Arya Stealth, and the HE1000. I not such a big fan of their closed back headphones. I would suggest that you check out the closed back offerings from Dan Clark Audio.
hifiman open backs, EQ correction to harman, happy days. All these sennheiser and beyer headphones lack the sub bass frequencies you need to hear in techno. yes, I agree, if you learn your headphones, any will do. But if you want to hear everything, for me, you can't beat a decent set of planars
