Yeah it will work fine, though Jabra recommends using the included Link 390 USB Dongle for best compatibility. Depending how loud the background noise is, the Evolve2 might be a better choice than the Evolve3.
The USB dongle is included, so you don't need to order it. If the kids are not near you in the room the Evolve3 will be fine.
I just got a pair last week and I wouldn’t say in my case the ANC does nothing, but it sure isn’t great. I can tell it does make some difference but I’m surprised at the amount of background or wind noise it still lets in. Which is a bummer because I really love everything else about them. It’s nowhere near as good as my air pods pro 3.
I confirm. I exchanged my Evolve2 85 for Evolve3 85 and while I love mic quality, comfort and smaller width of the headphones, the ANC is simply not working at all. With or without sidetones. I’ve made a simple test with music and vacuum cleaner. There is no difference hearing outside noises with headphones turned on and off. It means that there is only passive, physical noise cancelling with over the ear headphones but NO Active Noise Cancelling. I’ve updated the firmware today to 1.1.10 and there is no change.
I had to turn off sidetone for acceptable ANC. It is running regardless of whether you're in a call or not. You can hear the electronic hiss of the microphones. When you turn it off it's instantly noticeable, and this is with no active call. With it on, behavior is practically the same as hear-through even with ANC on.
I’ve been using the Evolve2 85 since it came out. Love it. I hate that the new Evolve3 85 does not have a boom microphone. I have not found any modern over the ear headset that supports 5.4 Bluetooth features and works as wonderfully with Microsoft Teams as the Evolve2 85.
Oh I wasn't even aware there was a new Evolve3 series - will take a look - thanks for the heads up.
Yeah I hear you. I love my Bose NC 700's so much (for Teams calls in noisy offices & listening to music on the commute) I bought a spare pair but I do miss not having a boom mic. Been looking at the new Evolve3 85 this morning after you mentioned the new models. Looks like it could well be a decent alternative but without a boom mic would it really be that much better overall than the 700's? Especially at that price point its difficult to justify while my NC 700's are still working. But yes - if you don't own the NC 700's the Evolve3 85's looks like the first proper over ear-mainstream-ANC-with-sidetone option for Teams calls in a noisy office - which is a good thing.
I've had 3 sets of Evolve 80. My first lasted me for years, I loved them. When the mic died I researched and couldn't find any headset that came close. So I bought a second pair. In just under a year the headband snapped. Fortunately it was just under warranty still and Jabra replaced it with a third pair. A week ago, that headband snapped too, already out of warranty. My company purchased me an Evolve2 85 replacement. I thought this was great - I get a newer, improved, headset at no cost to me. They arrived and immediate disappointment. ANC is pretty good - but I need them for video calls in an open plan office. There is NO sidetone to these, unlike the original 80s, you CANNOT hear yourself speak. This is a horrible experience - try sticking your fingers in your ears when talking to someone, that's what it's like. With the 80s, turning on NC and speaking in a call felt like you were the only one in a silent room - it was joy. The 'fix' - enable 'hear through' which allows sound captured by the headset to pass back into the earpiece. No! That defeats the purpose and now I can hear everyone around me. The alternative suggestion - 'speak louder'. Oh yes, that goes down really well in a crowded office where everyone is on calls. And it still sucks. Supposedly this is the price to pay for 'improved ANC'. What? The mic is capturing my voice - can they not attenuate and pass back into the headset? Why can't firmware handle this? If not firmware, why can't the companion Sound app handle it? So now I'm left with a broken Evolve 80 that I'm doing my best to repair using a 3D printer and a brand new Evolve2 85 that is good for music but totally useless for meetings. I would buy a fourth set of Evolve 80 if only I knew that the headband isn't going to break again. I cannot believe Jabra allowed this through quality control and continues to market it. If you're in the market for a headset and want to use it for meetings, take my advice and DO NOT buy the Jabra Evolve2 85.
Update. I used my corporate supplied Evolve2 85 for a couple of weeks. Massively frustrating. I'm in an open office with people sitting all around me. When on a call as soon as I speak the ANC is disabled and the sidetone feeds the sound of people around me who are on different calls. I hate that it sounds different as soon as I speak. So I personally bought the Evolve3 85 for $500 with tax. I spent 3 days with them. Verdict - such a disappointment. I feel like the ANC isn't great, certainly not their best ever which I believe they claim. I was on a train home yesterday watching a YouTube video. There was a group of 4 people at the far end of the carriage talking, I was in the centre of the carriage. Watching the YouTube I kept thinking "holy crap those guys are loud, I can hear them even with ANC on and a video playing". Then i took off the headset and found they really weren't that loud at all. The ANC is just not good. If I can be watching a video 15' away from people and still hear them talking what's the point? I tried them on calls at the office. Wasn't impressed. I feel that Jabra has gone the Apple route and put form over function. By removing the boom mic they have brought themselves a problem that they previously didnt have and the headset is suffering for it. Or at least the user is. So I'm strongly considering returning them. I can't justify spending $500 of my own money on a headset that isn't perfect. I'm again looking to repair my broken Evolve 80 which still has far better sound quality on calls. Yes it has a fold down boom mic, but that makes it work better. If I'm on the train using them I fold the boom up. It's really not that hard. And I honestly don't care if people see that I have a headset with a folded away boom. How does anyone think that's a deal breaker? Sorry for the rant but for a headset that lists at $650 retail it needs to wow. And it falls far short. I'll persevere with my hopefully soon repaired Evolve 80 until I find something that can legitimately compete. With ANC on I'm in almost complete silence. On a call I hear only those on the call. When I come off mute it sounds No different to me, I'm just off mute. When I speak I hear myself so clearly that it's like I'm not wearing a headset at all. How are we 3 generations of headset into the Evolve 8n series and the original is still the best?
I've recently acquired a set of the new and sparkly Evolve3 85's and I was excited to get going with them. I've got a set of Evolve 2 55's, a set of 65's and two sets of the 75's. I really love these headsets and they fit the bill in every way, apart from they are on-ear and not over ear which is what I really wanted, for comfort. I open the box to the new 85's, get them all connected, make sure they're updated etc and I was instantly unimpressed with the active noise cancelling ability of them. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, with the thinking that maybe it changes based on environments... Nope. I'm currently sat in an office with people talking (not very loudly) roughly 15m away, a radio on, printer going brrrr every now and again, people making tea/coffee, typing, tapping on the table - I hear it ALL. Even while listening to music. I'm not sure if it's just the ones I have that are defective, or whether an update is needed or that's just what this model is like, but these are poor compared to my other Jabra sets. "Find focus literally anywhere with our best ever noise cancellation. **Jabra Advanced ANC™** adapts to your individual fit and surroundings to block distractions for both music and calls – something most headsets can’t do." This is what Jabra have on their website, but so far, I do not believe any of it and actually, it's totally the opposite! Does anyone else have these? If so, how have you gotten on with the ANC functionality?
Regardless of firmware updates, it's literally a freshly launched product - surely before launching it with the claims of it being and I quote from Jabra themselves, their "best ever noise cancellation", they would at least get this right? False claims aren't acceptable regardless of when the first firmware is launched. You can't promise function without the actual function. It really isn't expected from a product with such a high price tag and previous products from previous generations which perform much, much better!
If there was an available update, I would, but the Evolve3 generation are only a month old. The 85 series was supposed to be refreshed with removal of boom mic, but instead integrated microphones. In terms of microphone clarity, comfort, sound quality itself, they are phenomenal - best headphones I've had in regards to those areas. But (and it's a very voluptuous but), the ANC is ridiculously weak. I'm typing on my own keyboard in front of me. I've got my Evolve2 75's, Samsung Buds 4 pro (I know they're in ear, different fit type etc) and some Bose QuietComfort Ultra - all of them, I can only hear about 5-10% of the total noises that go above the noise threshold. The Evolve3 85's - I hear about 70% of all noises - they're really not good.
I've tried everything and over the last week or so, I've really put them through their paces. In some niche circumstances, they really are fantastic for ANC. I was sat below an AC unit and I couldn't hear a thing from it, but a little adjustment of one of the cups around my ear and all of a sudden, I could hear everything for a few seconds.... So there's definitely room for improvement regarding the 'AI' functionality. It would be fantastic to have an option to use the AI ANC. Toggle between ON or OFF - if it's OFF, allow a low/med/high scale. I am in touch with Jabra support already :D
Thank you! They really are terrible compared to other headsets! I'm unsure why there are such children on reddit that feel so emotionally attacked because I criticised an item, an expensive one at that, that just doesn't work as well as the previous, despite them being claimed to be "the best yet"... Reddit eh?!
I can understand that it's adaptive (from what their marketing said too) but the option to not having it at full whack all the time has been a negative choice, in my opinion. I have to be in an office with morons who cannot perform basic functions without a tinny, crappy quality radio playing generic shite music all day - so I am forced to wear headphones to block it out instead of just making those that want music, wear headphones. If the AI is going to make its own mind up about what to filter out, then we aren't going to be friends!
I've tried with both sidetone on and sidetone off - absolutely no difference in ANC levels from what I can hear. Though when in a call and the headset is connected as the main communication device, then it does work and can hear my own voice. I've got a pair of Corsair Virtuoso XT's that have sidetone and they operate a lot differently to this set
