I have the Live 770BT and love them. There isn't a huge difference between the Tune and the Live so you would be getting a good value. I also have two other pairs of JBL headphones, one pair was my daily driver for several years and held up well. I own 8 pairs of headphones and three of them are JBL. I think that speaks to their quality and my affection for them, but also that I'm not a shill as I have 5 other brands as well. What I love about the 770s is the great sound. It is a little bass forward, in fact they put out bass that can nearly compete with Sony ULT Wear. There is an app that allows you to tune things to your liking though. The multi-point connectivity isn't always perfect, I'll sometimes have trouble connecting to my laptop. I've never had an issue connecting to my phone. Speaking of which, the call quality is excellent on both ends. The noise canceling is good. It isn't the best in the industry, but it does its job. They are very comfortable, I've watched movies with them, so I've had them on for several hours at a time with no issues. I don't have experience with the others you have listed. I thought I would talk a little about the JBL since I am passionate about all of my headphones. I hope whatever you choose, that he loves them!
Do you have a price range? My daily drivers for years before getting into the hobby were JBL tune 510bt, then the 520s. Those are budget, coming in at around $50 USD. They punch above their weight, and are all around just good headphones. The 520s are compatible with JBLs app. Even now that I have a collection of higher end headphones, I still keep them around just in case. I can't let them go, maybe it's because it's where I started. If your price range is a little higher I'd go with the JBL Live 770NC. They have ANC, app comparability and again, punch above their weight.
These are a little below your price range but they punch above their weight, according to reviews as well as my personal experience. **JBL Live 770NC** * Multipoint - seamless between my phone and laptop. It just works the way it's expected to, without any difficulty or issues. * Call Quality - It uses two beamforming microphones. I've asked people how I sound on them and they responded positively. On my end, voices are clear and loud enough to hear them clearly * Build Quality - I've only had them for a few months now so it's hard to predict how well they will stand up over time. They feel solid and do seem to be made well. * Comfort - They are some of the more comfortable headphones I own (I own 8 pair). They are light enough and have soft enough cushions to easily be worn all day. Since ANC and sound quality aren't as important I"ll just mention them briefly by saying both are excellent. Out of my headphones that have a built-in mic and can be used for calls, these are the ones that I reach for when I know I"ll be on a call. They are easily in your price range. I would read some reviews on them to get a bigger picture of what they are like, and at best go to a store that will allow you to test them out.
I own the Sony ULT and the JBL Live 770NC, so those are the only two I can really comment on. * Sony ULT Wear - obviously tremendous bass. They have an app with an EQ and other features The ULT button on the headphones themselves allows you to choose the type of bass. ULT1 is the deep bass mode. It gives the bass a nice boost without drowning out vocals. ULT2 is is ultra bass mode and is capable of producing subwoofer level bass. It can muffle vocals though. * JBL Live 770NC - These can actually rival the bass of the ULTs but are a little more balanced. You can EQ it further with the app. The are slightly less comfortable for long term wearing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've tested both with the power off and plugged directly into an amp. The JBL by far sounds better. The Sonys rely heavily on their DSP to sound as good as they do, but they don't do as well in analog mode. This tells me that the JBL probably has better drivers overall. It's close competition but if I had to keep only one pair I would keep the JBL. I hope that this gives you some insight into at least those two. Hopefully some people with experience using the other ones you listed will chime in.
JBL Live 770BT are pretty decent. Good sound and call quality. Closed back so they don't leak noise (as much). I also own the ULT Wear, I have not used them in an office setting but can say that the noise canceling is excellent, better than the JBL mentioned above. If you like bass, these are the obvious choice. The overall sound quality is decent as well, not balanced like studio cans by any means, but they sound good. I find them comfortable to wear and like the app.
Of the eix main pairs of headphones that I use, three are wired and three are BT (all three of them can be wired though). I'm at home most of the time so my daily drivers are my Beyerdynamic DT900 Pro x and 770 Pro 80 ohm. I have a pair of Grado sr80x that I also enjoy from time to time. For wireless on-the-go use cases I usually use my AT M50xBT2. I also have the ULT Wear and JBL Live 770NC. My ears aren't trained well enough to notice a difference from BT, but my BT cans are all consumer grade, that's what makes the difference.
At home on my laptop it's DT 770 Pro, 900 Pro X and Grado SR80x through the Zen DAC V3. Out and about it's Sony ULT Wear or JBL 770NC. I like all of my headphones for different use cases.
Yeah, I brought some recently and seem pretty good. Got them from JB Hi-Fi as I had a voucher to use, and they were on special. Currently $186
do nottt get the jbl live, i hater them, anc is awful especially on planes, very uncomfortable, tiny ear cups, awful . i just got jlabs and i like them a lot, anc is pretty good on flights but not amazing, an sound is great for movie and music mode. i plan to get cmf too ! so i’ll compare
best fit to your needs would be jbl Live 770NC https://amzn.in/d/9jTsQGH There is also Sony WH720CN (Linked below) but if I were at your place i would choose jbl. https://amzn.in/d/agAqkLw
I have a pair of JBL Live 770 NCs, super comfortable, good sound and decent value - mine were about $150 I think? Also can dial in different settings with the app.. worth checking out. Also have really good battery life (I get about a 40 hr working week out of a charge). I’m by no means an audio geek, but do a lot of video editing and use them for both field recording and cutting videos, I do some audio mixing on them before testing on different speaker set ups
It is an extra bass headphone, but I think with the choices that it would be solid the Sony Ult Wear. I tried them at Best Buy, and I liked the comfort, anc, sound quality. I also tried the JBL live 770nc, and I liked them for comfort and bassy sound. The Sennheiser Accentum Plus has really good reviews. I heard that it has a tight clamp originally, but it loosens up.. Cnet picked them as their favorite mid priced headphone. This list that David, the cnet editor, put together is really helpful. [https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/best-wireless-headphones/](https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/best-wireless-headphones/) I picked up the Soundcore Space 1. I chose them because of a great sale price. It has a nice punchy bass, good app with tons of eq choices, good anc, good microphone for zoom conferences. It had good reviews at Best Buy and Amazon. So, it definitely is a solid choice. It usually is $100.00 or sometimes less. The Soundcore Q45 is their top tier product. It sounds like it has a bit more detail on instruments. It looked a bit more bulky. So, I went with the space, but many people enjoy these.
I picked up the Soundcore Space 1. Good ambient mode and good ANC and good microphone. Sound quality is decent if you like a bass forward sound. I tried the Sony Ult Wear and JBl live 770nc. They seemed quite good when I tried them. The Sony XM4 or Bose QC are likely to be on sale in early July
There are a ton of options right now. I liked the Soundcore Space 1 that I picked up last year. I don't get any latency. I sometimes watch random youtube videos on my work from home laptop. These are really comfortable for me, and I don't get any latency. I usually do use the AAC codec that Apple like to use on their phones or with Apple Music. Decent ANC too. Soundcore are not the most durable, but this model is better than my former one the Q30. You do get an 18 month warranty. I just order from Amazon or Best Buy usa. It is easy to keep with purchase there. A few others ones that are the 720n. Solid ANC and quite good sound. One negative is they don't fold up for transport. There are some after market cases. I do like hard cases as they protect the headphones from stupid stuff I do like have headphone roll around in the trunk with my laptop bag. A few other good ones are either JBL Tune 770nc or Live 770nc. The Live has nicer pads, but these both are solid items. JBL does have a low latency mode in their app. So, you can definitely avoid latency on movies. Some headphone blogs have really like the 1 More Sonoflow Pro. Good sound quality, decent anc, comes with its own hard case. It also uses the AAC codec as well as offering an LDAC codec for better sound quality.
The Soundcore Space 1 has good ANC at the 100 mark. The Sony Ult Wear or Sennheiser Accentum are good at 200. The Xm4 or xm5 are good for a bit more. Space 1 has nice pad set up where it has a good seal but doesn't hurt. I tried the JBL live 770nc; they were really comfortable too. I used to have Q30 by Soundcore it was so loose it would fall of your head.
I would assume your device likely includes AAC. It seems to be pretty low latency for me. I saw that Best Buy has the Shokz Open Run Pro and Open Run on sale this weekend. (edit it s.ounds like Shokz mostly use SBC) I saw at Costco they had a good reduction on the Open Run Pro. Maybe try this pre Christmas. If it doesn't work, you could try over the ear headphones with transparency mode activated. Soundcore Space 1. Sony 720n, JBL live 770nc don't have bad latency. JBL has a low latency mode in their app.
There seems to be some pretty good quality items released in the last 2 years. I broke my headphones in July. So, here is few things I tried or at least read up on. 1. Sony 720. The padding is only so so, but the sound quality is really good for the price. I have heard it is even better if spend some time eq ing it with the Sony App. 2. Soundcore Space 1. I got this because of good July sale. Nice comfort and padding, good anc and ambient mode, nice app with a good eq. Sound quality is pretty nice if you do their hearing test and then eq it some. 3. Sony Ult; It is an extra bass headphone, but I thought Sony tuned it well not ruin vocal songs. Really comfortable when I tried at Best Buy USA. 4. JBL Live 770nc. I thought these were really comfortable. They seemed to have a nice bass tuning when I tried these at Best Buy. The demo music was mostly edm which is not my thing; so experience with sound minimal. Worth a solid look. 5. Sennheiser Accentum Plus. David Carnoy who does the Cnet reviews picked this as his favorite mid price headphone. 6. 1 More Sonoflow. A new release, but the original model was picked by cnet and a few others as one of the best sounding 99 usd headphone.
I picked up the Soundcore Space 1. It seemed pretty solid. The anc is pretty good at the 100 usd mark.. With music on low it blocks about 70% of machine noises and 50% of voices. It has a bass centric sound, but it eqs well. The Soundcore Space 1 Pro has an excellent ANC, but it does have a really strong bass tuning. The Sony Ult Wear is Sony's extra bass headphones, but it is not quite as strong on the bass as the Space 1 Pro. It does seem comfortable with very good ANC. I did see the Bose Quietcomfort went on sale today. It seems like a well made headphone. Bose gives me more cabin pressure in my ears than Sony or Soundcore. So, if you can try it at Best Buy or elsewhere it does help. I did try the JBl Live 770 nc at Best Buy. It was really comfortable with good sound quality. The ANC is not as good as Sony or Bose, but it seems to be good from reading reviews. The demo model did not seem to allow you to test the ANC or at least I could not figure how to activate it.
JBL Live 770NC with cable that’s included and adapter from lightning to 3.5mm jack, lossless music feels amazing
I use JBL Live. They fold up tho not obvi super small.
I love my JBL 770NC set. Great for smaller heads. Good padding that cushions/floats the headband and ear cups, doesn’t compress to create pressure points. Good battery life, durable so far in a year of daily packing and wearing.
JBL 770NC here. Recommend.
Lower end of budget but I really like my JBL 770NCs. I have a smaller head and these are one of the only ones I’ve found that feel ok over my ears and overhead. The padding is soft and they don’t put too much pressure on any spot. Sound quality is good. Noise cancelling is a comfortable level cutting out lots of background environmental noise but not so much that I feel entirely cut out of the environment and disoriented. They’ve held up to daily use and packing/unpacking into my backpack. Great battery life.
jbl 770nc is very uncomfortable for big ears
