Based on 1 year's data from Feb 24, 2026 How it works
Ever since I posted in r/HeadphoneAdvice asking about the JBLs some two years ago (would link the post if I could), people have been messaging me asking about my thoughts and satisfaction with them. If that was you, I'm sorry if I haven't replied. I got a lot of those messages, and I kept putting it off, partly because I didn't feel "qualified enough" to influence your decisions, as silly as that sounds. I'm really not much of a "seasoned" headphone user, so I wasn't sure how to reaspond... I also frankly just lost track. But I do feel guilty, so for all those who are still interested or will be in the future, I decided to make a post so that people could find my thoughts if they ever want to. ...for whatever reason lol. First of all, though, **BIG DISCLAIMER**: - I'm not an experienced headphone user. These are the first and only over-ear headphones I've ever owned (and obviously the first noise-cancelling ones), so **I have nothing to compare them to.** - I don't use them daily. - I don't usually have them on for multiple hours at a time, except for when I'm on a longer train/bus/plane trip, in which case I would generally wear them for the entire duration. The longest I've probably had them on more or less nonstop was an ~11 hr flight. But much more often, I use them for shorter periods of time. I'm still the kind of person who prefers to play things out loud if I'm able to. So please, keep that in mind when making your own decisions. These are only my personal thoughts and experiences. With that out of the way, let's get into it. I'll do it in section based on specific aspects and features. # Battery life For the way I use them, the battery life is incredible. I've only had to charge them a handful of times in all the time I've had them. And even if they were to run out of battery in the middle of a trip, that's not the end of the world because: # Jack connector I really love that they have this option. They work well as wireless, but you can also just connect them with a jack (which is included) without needing to turn them on. The sound is good (possibly even more stable than with bluetooth... which seems to make sense) and no battery is needed for that. It's also useful when the NC feature is being a bit wobbly - I'll get to that later. # Practicality and comfort Compactness is definitely a big plus. They fold in a way that makes them sort of flat, so they're quite easy to store and transport, they don't take much space. The controls seem intuitive and easy to use. The right side has buttons where you can turn on and off the NC/Ambient Aware, control volume, and one that does pause-play and skip, depending on how you press it (possibly even rewind, but I'm not 100% sure about that one). The buttons are easy to keep track of just by touch, you can find your way around easily without seeing them. As for comfort, this is probably going to vary greatly from person to person, but to me, they're quite comfy. They don't go over the *entire* ear, only mostly, so some bits of your ear will end up under the padding. But the padding is really soft and it feels comfortable to me. If I'm to wear them for a long period of time, I would probably take my earrings off, as that might cause some discomfort. Also, it may be worth mentioning that I wear glasses, and sometimes when I have to wear the headphones for a really long time with my glasses on, it can get quite sore there. # Noise Cancelling and Ambient Aware modes - Well... Without having anything to compare it to, I'd say that the NC mode is pretty decent. It filters outside sounds fairly well - not always to the point where you couldn't hear anything, but definitely to where it's not distracting. However, there are a couple imperfections, imo. For instance, when I'm on a bus, in a car or somewhere like that, the sound tends to... crackle a bit when it's bumpy. Idk how else to describe it. It's fine when it's a smooth ride, but when there's bumps - OR the same thing happens if you're walking outside and it's windy, for example - it does this thing, it's something between crackling and the sound of wind in a microphone, if you know what I mean. It's not unbearable or anything, but it can be quite unpleasant and annoying. Not sure if that's just a flaw in my set specifically or if they all have this issue. Either way, these are the times I like to use the jack connector, which pretty much solves it. But yeah, this is probably my biggest issue with the headphones, I really don't like that sound. - As for the Ambient Aware... To be completely honest, not a huge fan. I don't use it much. I love the idea that you can press a button and it will allow you to hear outside sounds, and I use it from time to time, just in specific moments when I can't be arsed to take them off and on again. Unfortunately though, in reality, it doesn't sound exactly like you took the headphones off, it just sounds like outside sounds and noises are being played in your ear through a microphone. So they're uneven and slightly distorted. They seem almost amplified. A friend of mine bought a pair of (much more expensive) headphones with the same feature and when I tried it, it did actually sound like you didn't have the headphones on, the outside sounds were so natural and clear. That is sadly not the case with the JBLs. It does the job, but it's not perfect. # Sound In general, I would say the sound is good (again, no point of comparison). I don't really have anything else to say... I'm not an expert and I probably don't consciously notice the small nuances of sound quality. It's not like I was blown away when I first put them on, but I feel like they sound really good. Idk, this is definitely an area where I dare not give advice, because I know some people here care a LOT about their sound quality and richness. # Price I feel like they offer a really good price-performance ratio. They seem like solid headphones while being among the cheapest ones of this kind (at least where I live). Overall, I would say they're good headphones. Super practical, compact, quite comfortable and they do the job well, especially for the price. They do have some issues that are worth considering. Hope that helps! --- EDIT (October 2025): So. To paint a complete, honest picture, I feel like I should share that my headphones unfortunately broke less than 3 months after the (2 year) warranty expired :/ More specifically, they technically still work fine, this is about the build quality - the plastic keeping one of the ear cups in place broke off in a way that makes them unwearable and therefore unuseable (you can find pictures in the comments). So, if you do end up getting them, just make sure you carry them in some kind of case or protective cover and are handeling them carefully. I tried to be careful with them, but granted, I only used a cloth bag to keep them in, so no firm case, and I would just toss them in my backpack without too much worry... Which could get quite packed at times, so that's definitely how the breakage happened. Either way, just wanted to share for transparency's sake.
Very good question, I was actually about to update my post. So unfortunately, it's not excellent. They broke less than 3 months after the warranty expired :/ Specifically, they technically still work, but one of the ears broke off in a way that makes them unwearable and therefore unuseable. I'm sorry to say... So, if you do end up getting them, just make sure you carry them in some kind of case or protective cover. I tried to be careful with them, but granted, I only had them in a cloth bag and would just shove them in my backpack, which could sometimes get quite packed. Which is definitely how the breakage happened.
Some pictures to illustrate where and how it broke. So the cups are foldable - they turn essentially along their own axis in a way that makes them able to be positioned flat. I'd say that the maximum it can do is an almost 180° turn. And then that joint can kind of flip forward/inwards, as to turn the (flat-laying) ear cups inside as per this picture (idk how to explain if well, but hopefully the pictures illustrate it). So you can probably see that that joint part is potentially quite breakable/vulnerable, as it's quite small, made of plastic and moved/strained a lot. Both turning point are in this small bit of plastic. It's a great design functionally, but easy to see how it could break. https://preview.redd.it/7otuslz8h0xf1.jpeg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=976fa3c9d099b3a47b7c49c35d02e8d2d8ba13a0 I'll add a picture of the broken part in a follow-up comment.
For me I didn’t have issue, I know I’m kinda late 😭 but yeah I have small ears and they cover all of them and I have a piercing in one of them and it doesn’t hurt even after an entire day with the headphones one nor when I’m laying down with them!
JBL tune 770NC. Currently using it. It so good!
I have JBL Tune 770 Bluetooth headphones and they sound great. JBL has never done me dirty. BEATS on the other hand, fuck beats. Absolute pieces of junk.
I have used the Soundcore Space 1 for a year: solid base focused sound, good anc for the price, good comfort. The 1 More Sonoflow Pro, Sony c720, JBL Tune 770nc are good too.
I have had the Space 1 for a year. I am not audiophile I just want good bass that does ruin vocal. The Space 1 has been good because the app gives you good eq options, and it is really comfortable, the anc is quite good for the price. So, it is definitely a good one to try. Those others are really good too. The 1 More Sonoflow Pro does have great reviews. So, it is definitely is worth a try. David Carnoy that does the Cnet reviews thought for several years that the original Sonoflow was one of the best sounding 100 usd headphones. Cnet basically is more interested in traffic than pushing brands. So, they have been reliable to me on home audio. I tried the Sony 720 it sounded really good (similar to the Soundcore Space 1). The headphones don't fold is the only major negative. Obviously, it is not deal maker, but the Space 1 fit into the hard case that I had from the Soundcore Q30 that makes taking to work or a local cafe much easier.
There are a ton of options right now. I liked the Soundcore Space 1 that I picked up last year. I don't get any latency. I sometimes watch random youtube videos on my work from home laptop. These are really comfortable for me, and I don't get any latency. I usually do use the AAC codec that Apple like to use on their phones or with Apple Music. Decent ANC too. Soundcore are not the most durable, but this model is better than my former one the Q30. You do get an 18 month warranty. I just order from Amazon or Best Buy usa. It is easy to keep with purchase there. A few others ones that are the 720n. Solid ANC and quite good sound. One negative is they don't fold up for transport. There are some after market cases. I do like hard cases as they protect the headphones from stupid stuff I do like have headphone roll around in the trunk with my laptop bag. A few other good ones are either JBL Tune 770nc or Live 770nc. The Live has nicer pads, but these both are solid items. JBL does have a low latency mode in their app. So, you can definitely avoid latency on movies. Some headphone blogs have really like the 1 More Sonoflow Pro. Good sound quality, decent anc, comes with its own hard case. It also uses the AAC codec as well as offering an LDAC codec for better sound quality.
I have liked the Soundcore Space 1 that I got in July. JBL Tune 770, JLab Lux are good ones too.
Before getting the JLab JBuds Lux, I tried the Sony WH-CH720N, Soundcore Q20i, and JBL Tune 770nc. Unfortunately, I ended up returning each one for different reasons. Sony had extremely shallow earcups and drivers kept hitting my ears, Soundcore looked bulky on me and was creaking sometimes with movement, JBL earcup size was small for my ears. Here’s a detailed review of the headphones: Comfort: These headphones are incredibly comfortable. They are very lightweight, and the cloud foam earcups are incredibly soft. The earcup shape wraps around your ear very well, providing a snug fit. Sound Quality: I’m not an audiophile, but I can say that these headphones sound great for me. They have a clean and crisp tone with good amount of bass. I also used the bass booster EQ settings to enhance the bass response. Look: These headphones are very compact. When folded, they fit comfortably in my small crossbody bag. They also wrap around the head well without much space around, making them look very nice and compact. Passive Noise Canceling: The fit of these headphones is very snug around your ear, which in itself eliminates a lot of noise. Most of the time, it was enough for me, and I didn’t need to use ANC at all. Active Noise Canceling: Works very well also. I tried it while in the mall and it was able to reduce the noise by about 70-80%. Overall, I was extremely satisfied with these headphones. They are one of the best purchases I’ve made recently.
Basically every headphone I’ve ever gotten keeps breaking extremely quickly. For some reason the sound keeps dying in one or both ears within less than 2 years. I recently bought some JBL Tune 770NC’s and they started making this incredibly loud ringing noise in the left ear. Due to my history with headphones I have tried to keep them in as good condition as possible, yet they basically break after only 3 months. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal?
Okay so initially bought boat rockers 450, even on a budget they worked great honestly. But on a random Thursday I yanked them too hard and they literally cracked from in between. So like lasted me a year and half. Then I went for JBL TUNE 770C, let me tell you if it isn’t pinching your wallet too much, just buy these. THEY’RE WORTH THE MONEY. TRUST!!!! Had them for a whole 3 years, but kinda used them too rough and the cushions tore. Should have taken care of them more so yes GO FOR JBL
At home on my laptop it's DT 770 Pro, 900 Pro X and Grado SR80x through the Zen DAC V3. Out and about it's Sony ULT Wear or JBL 770NC. I like all of my headphones for different use cases.
I love my JBL 770NC set. Great for smaller heads. Good padding that cushions/floats the headband and ear cups, doesn’t compress to create pressure points. Good battery life, durable so far in a year of daily packing and wearing.
JBL 770NC here. Recommend.
Lower end of budget but I really like my JBL 770NCs. I have a smaller head and these are one of the only ones I’ve found that feel ok over my ears and overhead. The padding is soft and they don’t put too much pressure on any spot. Sound quality is good. Noise cancelling is a comfortable level cutting out lots of background environmental noise but not so much that I feel entirely cut out of the environment and disoriented. They’ve held up to daily use and packing/unpacking into my backpack. Great battery life.
