Astro A10 gen 1 Used for several years, almost no wear + tear Good audio and comfortable around ears, relatively cheap. Only downside is the small amount of padding on top and not sound cancelling. A10 Gen 2 fixes this/these issues and is also wireless
I've had a Blackshark V2 X for around a month or two and it already has a connection issue causing horrible scratchy audio every minute or so, I'm having issues finding a headset $50 or under to replace it. I don't really want to get another V2 X because this issue seems to be caused where the cord connects to the headset and it's not replaceable. Outside of my V2 I've tried the Astro A10 gen 1 and 2. My only real requirements are for it to have a replaceable/removeable wire, it to be $50 or under, though I'm willing to go to $60, and preferably to be more durable or less prone to this kind of issue.
I use a separate mic & headphones, but I have the HyperX Quadcast 2 as my mic and KZ ZSN Pro X as my in-ears. I've used the Logitech G Pro X for a while before swapping to this system, however the headphones got heavy on my head after very long gaming sessions, but they were comfy! I go back to them if I need wireless :). I also have a pair of Astro A10s I use for my PS5. They are super lightweight and the audio is good, and the mic isn't terrible.
Astro, or at least they were when I bought my pair of A20’s. I was in the same position as you in 2019 and then I bought a pair of Astro A20’s and they’re built like a tank and practically fool proof. The headset bends a lot meaning it’s pretty impossible to break them and the foam pads for the ears are still solid to this day and have no sign of breaking off. There is no part of the headset that has physically shown any sign of degradation. If you’re looking for BIFL durability wise then Astro is the way to go—at least the A20 and A10’s are since I have no experience with their more expensive models. With the said, the audio and mic quality is middling. The mic I straight up wouldn’t use if I were you. For years I wondered why my friends pretended like I wasn’t talking—turns out I was just so quiet that they couldn’t hear me (That’s more of a console problem since you can’t really alter your mic level). The default audio is okay, not great not terrible. I have my own preset that I stole from some random guide long ago so I’m really satisfied with the audio quality at the moment. Also, having owned it for almost a decade, the battery is obviously degrading to the point I’m considering buying new headphones but I haven’t started to notice until recently and 7 years after the original purchase. Obviously, it seems times have changed and Logitech seems to be more involved with Astro now so I can’t speak of modern Astro headphones, but the ones I got were definitely a BIFL durability style purchase and I would 100% recommend it for reliability.
Probably Turtle Beach Recon 50 if you’re THAT constrained by your budget. If you can shell out a bit more, ASTRO Gaming A10 has a better mic
Im using my astro a10s with an usb c adapter, love it totally immersive surround sound.
I've had a set of Astro A10 for about 8 years now. Comfortable and solid.
A10 Astros have worked great for me and I still have a controller graveyard in my closet The ear cups are replaceable. The head band is virtually indestructible. And they aren't too expensive.
Stuck between IEMs and traditional headphones for gaming and college My budget is ~$250, I don’t really know a whole lot about audio set up or what makes a “good” listening experience, and my main use cases will be games like r6, listening to music/videos while working on stuff for college, general listening, and *maybe* for playing guitar (this is still a HUGE maybe. I play guitar and I’m definitely good enough to join or make a band. I know IEMs are pretty much necessary for that). Ok, so here’s my background, what I have now, and what I’m looking at. Right now I have a set of Astro A10s I got from like Walmart a loooooong time ago. I’ve never had anything even resembling good headphones and I’m wanting to upgrade. I’m currently stuck between Linsoul Kiwi Orchestra Lite IEMs and SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless headphones. I want a good balance between comfort and sound quality, as I’ll be using them for gaming but also for general listening. Since I’m in college I have a *lot* of homework and projects so I’ll be wearing them a lot. I’m mostly looking to keep it around $200-250, as I’m asking my family for these for Christmas (but if more expensive options go on sale during Black Friday or whatever for around $200-250 I’m open to that too). Are those two both good options, or is there anything else that might be better or a better deal? Thanks!
