Yes, I had that problem too. I've had an A40 TR since 2017 (which still works perfectly) and I bought a second, latest-generation one. I found the new one inferior to the old one. I left it in the box and I'm keeping it to replace the first one in case the old one dies. But I felt a bit silly because I didn't like the sound of the new one, and like you, I forgot about the break-in period. I used it for about a week and now they both sound the same. Apparently, speaker break-in isn't just an urban legend.

I've switched to Astro years ago and never looked back. Amazing audio, comfort and durability. Have both the a40 tr (10+ years old) and the A50.

I’ve had A40’s for 3 1/2 years and my mic broke after the first 90 days , and they are definitely not the most comfortable headset on the market. I don’t think their build quality is terrible but they aren’t worth the price. They really don’t have an Audio profile I’d say is much better than a 50/50$ headset from Amazon. Then the fact that they sell the mixer separately for an extra 100$+ dollars when the headset was already close to 300$ was insane for me at the time. I’d rather just buy a brand like sennheiser at that point. I’m ready for a new set within the month.

I own a set and have enjoyed them with only complaint being I hit the swap to another hdmi hitting a button at my fault. I’d have kept using my old a40s I bought for mw2 on ps3 if my Xbox had an optical port.

I’ve had my Astro A40 TR for probably 8 years and they still work perfectly, I’m scared to try a new pair until these fully give out lol

The thing a lot of people overlook is some gaming headsets have a lot of investment into sounding good for competitive gaming. So whilst they may not sound great for music and movies (though some are still fine), they often do directional audio very well and are tuned to enhance footsteps and enemy position, so in someways a gaming headsets can be as good or even better than high end studio headphones when it comes to purely gaming. I remember my old Astro a40tr being superb for enemy direction and competitive gps games. For music and movies they were pretty shit, but for gaming they were very good.

Still rocking my Astro A40TRs with the mix amp to this day šŸ˜‚ Something about Dolby 5.1 still sounds the best to me. Tried a steel series headset but didn't like going to stereo sound with 3D audio at all.
