Yeah, idk about buy it for life, my first set of A50s were Gen1 and used-lasted 4 years on very heavy use. Was good enough to convince me to get another set after a disappointing Razer headset.
Yeah. Mine crapped out because the battery would not charge. My guess is that it was a bad connection and a quick bit of soldering would have fixed it, but I didn't have the time to figure that out
I rocked a pair of the original A50's for like 4 years before the innumerable firmware issues with that drove me insane and lead me to buy a pair of Arctis NOva Pro steel series. Sound quality was great and all, but they hurt my head or got annoying to wear after an hour. The other day i bought the newest A50x because I love the way they feel on my head. i can wear them for a 13 hour gaming session and only notice theyre there once my head starts sweating around them. But alas, less than 4 hours of use into them, they randomly died. disconnected from USB. did all the basic unplug plug in reset, hard reset. what a load of bullshit. ima bout to return to amazon. I have 0 brand loyalty after the way that I was sent a literal 1000 word essay on how to hotfix the $300 A50 I bought, that still did not resolve the issue. I honestly dont care that much about sound quality that much. I just want something that is nice and fluffy on my head the same way that the A50 is. Anything is better than dealing with a company that willfully puts out faulty products.
Owned astros since the 1st gen a50s and they still work. I don’t have a single complaint about my a50 gen 5s. I’d recommend Astro to anyone needing a top of the line headset
When did that happen? My gen 1 astro a50's are still working since late ps3 era.
I bought a gen 1 at a garage sale for 50c a few years back, and the sound quality is absolute ass thanks to the absolutely fucked up decisions that the engineers made about the 3 built in equalizer settings that cannot be turned off -- which engineers have confirmed to me in this sub are exactly how it should be -- but they are fantastic for voice chat, and absolutely nothing else whatsoever. Absolutely useless for gaming and music, if you want to hear what you're actually supposed to hear, because the equalization profiles completely destroy the sound, but great for voice.
I still have my gen 1 A50's haha they've last like 10 years and still going strong. I am looking at upgrading now and thinking of just getting the newer gen.
Specifically the Astro A50X - the headset is the best version of Astros. Don’t bother with the OG A50, or the A40TR (although I loved that). The A50X is expensive but worth every penny. It’s an amazing headset and very comfortable. You won’t need another headset again. (On PS5 and PC btw)
Bro same! Got them in 2013 and I still use them on the daily. The mic feedback is a pain sometimes but the sound quality is still tops. I’ve had to repair them a couple of times with a drill and some cable ties
