I went from A50s Gen 2 to The new Lightspeed ones, I get more distance, audio and mic quality is better, battery is way better, and the comfort is fine, I just had to adjust the height. Its been a great upgrade for me
I have buyers remorse for my a50 doesn't charge properly on the dock unless you mess with it to get it in place. I have the latest Gen and it was supposed to be fixed but still is a pain. Pretty bad pain after a few hours of gaming have had them for months and use daily for a few hours no improvement. The volume controls are easily the worst part. Absolutely abysmal and volume will just randomly change on you. It is a good headset sound quality wise but for the price tag there are too many basics they got wrong. Would be worth it at $100 no more.
I've switched to Astro years ago and never looked back. Amazing audio, comfort and durability. Have both the a40 tr (10+ years old) and the A50.
Caveat, I'm a PC gamer that doesn't use headsets these days, but I have a sorta big head, I've encountered this SO much lol. But when I did still opt just for headsets before I switched to PC and set myself up with a boom arm mic rig + studio headphones, I loved HyperX's headsets for fit & comfort. I had a Cloud II and I wore those things to DEATH even after I started playing only PC. They fit just right and have really big cans so they don't squash my head like a lemon. I also tried a friends Logitech's Astro A50's recently and they're pretty nice, they don't feel like shit on my ears, but, the price tag leaves a lot to be desired. At least for me, anyway, but I'm on a really tight budget.
Yeah, I tried a lot of different options at first (JBL earbuds, which were okay, my way too heavy with the headset Astro A50s, Sony Pulse earbuds, okay audio, would disconnect and not reconnect in a timely fashion often) and am now also on the wired earbuds that it comes with.
Ngl. The Astro a50s have been amazing. A bit big but they act like earmuffs for the cold xD
The last arctis I had sounded like tin cans. Got rid of them for Astro a50s. I wear glasses and have never had any issues, not even with really long sessions.
I have the a50s and a pair of audeze maxwells , I would go for the audeze because their sound is better than any headset on the market for gaming
This is a problem I faced a month ago, my first Xbox and i learned the bad way that you cannot connect anything good directly, you need a DAC approved by Microsoft, I think only the mix/amp (I got it and I could never made it work, no updates available anymore) and the steelseries gen 2 (this is the one that worked for me)… then you can connect anything non-Xbox approved (everything made for Xbox is shit)… then you can connect any headphone… unfortunately the dac itself is about 100 USD… with a very basic iems you will get a much better experience ( around 20 usd) vs any “gaming headphone”… over ear I suggest you go for an open back headphone (maybe kiwi ears altruva) but it would never be close to 50 usd with good quality… you would love the IEMs, it is a game changer vs any gaming headphone you ever tried. I had the Astro a50 and they are awful compared to a 20 usd iem… a good overear headphone made for high quality music will also be a game changer but you will need to invest a bit more… I almost forget, mic is a challenge, you can connect the iem to the controller directly but the mic might not work…. That is why I needed a dac… also consider to do some tuning on Xbox Dolby atmos depending on what you are playing… some IEMs have a very high treble which can be a bit annoying. Chat gpt can make the work for you. Good luck, I wanted a simple wired headphone with a mic and I ended up spending 200 usd to make it work (dac, cheap IEMs, trrs splitter and a boyu mic) … I was that happy that I upgraded immediately to a better IEMs and good over ear headphones
Just purchased a pair two weeks ago and I love them. I'm very sensitive to any clamp force especially due to TMJ(had to return a couple other headsets due to it) but I didn't have any problem with the A50 clamp. The A50 also is definitely not a closed back headset, with the stock pads they feel like open backs. I'm not a fan of closed backs so this would of stuck out to me. Think you should of given them more of a chance than just a quick test but to each their own I guess. Edit: Also the G Hub has it so that you can download other people's custom EQs which makes them sound amazing. They sounded great out of the box but with EQ it's 🤌
