I have a pretty good wired set for PC and PS5, but I really like the Xbox ones. The bass is overly punchy, but I prefer that for the type of games I play (action/RPG).
I find the headband is to rigid/tight on my head. Constantly have to stretch them out
I don't think I could recommend any of them without some kind of modification. I use the Audeze Maxwell's but I had to buy new ear cups that are deeper, otherwise your ear touches the drivers and it's really annoying/uncomfortable after a while. Plus they have this silly headband that has fairly limited adjustment. The Astro A50X had stupidly small ear cups as did the official Xbox wireless headset. The problem is, if you want wireless, that the Xbox needs its own dongle for its headphones. So an audiophile style "proper" headphones won't just connect to it. I do have a set of old wireless Sony headphones that fit great but they have to be connected to the TV via an optical cable for them to work.
I bought them because the base station and the ability to switch between different sources was a great feature. When they arrived they sounded alright, but they appeared to have been made for children or teenagers. The clamp force was silly and the ear cups were tiny, so it made them very uncomfortable. Same thing with the official Xbox wireless headphones too. Eventually settled on the Audeze Maxwell's with thicker cups so your ears don't touch the driver's. Although they have a piss poor way of adjusting the size. So for me it ended up being what fits, before what sounds good.
I recently bought a pair of Steelseries Arctis Nova 7X. Very happy with them. They feel solid but light and have the most comfortable ear cups of all the sets I tried on. The mic tucks away nicely and they don’t scream “gamer”. You could wear them on a plane or in public and not look ridiculous. My buddy has a pair he’s had for years that are still going strong too. Prior to that I got about 4-5 years out of the MS official Xbox wireless headset. Those are a great value for $120 imo; but the catch is they always turn your Xbox on when you power them on, so they’re not great to use with other electronics in your house. I passed on the A50s because you can’t use them without the stupid docking station. If you have a Microcenter nearby, they have just about every headset on the market on display to try on.
I'm going to try the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 1 and see if those work. I've been using the Xbox Wireless Headphones for the past few years and they're on their last leg. The fake leather earmuffs are always awful on purpose, so you buy the replacement pads
I’ve had a variety of high end headsets and honestly I think I’d recommend the Xbox wireless ones. Sure they’re not as crisp as the other ones but at their price point, I believe they’re the best bang for their buck. Mine are going on 2 years of nearly daily use and they’re holding up great so far.
I use the official Xbox wireless ones. They are okay kinda get fuzzy audio sometimes when the battery gets low. It is nice that they also connect to my phone so I watch things in between rounds
I had a set of the branded Xbox wireless headphones and I really enjoyed the function of them, they were very nice -except- the ear cups are just a tad small for me and would cause discomfort after a while. That’s the only reason I’m still not using it. I recently picked an Arctis Nova 7X Steelseries Gen 1 for fairly cheap since the Gen 2s are out. It’s fantastic. Solved the cup size issue with the official branded headphones, and it’s got an app you can use to for EQ and a bunch of other stuff. You can also play music and podcasts through it while playing, etc, which is nice. I’d recommend it.
